@The_Dikes5 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. I still grudge Jose Mourinho, for converting Mikel's play to a DM. That was a good reason for him, to sign out and join another club, I guess he was desperate to keep the job because he chose Chelsea over Man UTD, he didn't want to wind up not having a top club to play for. His natural skill, was sacrificed by Mourinho's ego tripping attitude. He won one over MAN UNITED'S gaffer, was all he meant for Jose.

Mikel was an incredible player in his Chelsea days. Kanteh is the short & quicker/faster version of Mikel Obi. He was basically intercepting almost every ball in his territory and that gave license to our attacking players to focus more on the attacking phase of the game than defending. Most people expected him to be regularly amongst goal scorers like the Lamps, Bisons or Ballacks which was unfair to him. That's why he's criminally underrated.

It is pretty insane how underrated he was during his spell at Chelsea. He made it look so easy that it felt like he was slowing the team down, when in actual fact it was balance he added that got us through many games and added 3 points, If we look at it today? We have talented Midfield but no balance, Caicedo and Enzo dont know who they are in this current set up. Perhaps Lavia will be able to provide that balance to allow Caicedo and Enzo to find themselves and play at their best. But Shout out to Mikel, my eyes were truly opened at the 2012 Finals of the Champions League, i hadnt seen some one so cool, calm and collected, no fear no panic against a Bayern Team that was in all likelihood the best well run team in Europe at the time, Ribery & Robben were tearing teams apart.

This type of physical presence and toughness is what the team and midfield lacks now, a tough tackler who has technical skill and could pick out passes, UCL final MOTM too
Facts. 2011 UCL final best player.
In retrospect Mikel was truly underrated, a genius with the ball and a tank of a tackler without the ball... Pity they don't make players like John Obi Mikel anymore. Legend🔵💙
Fifa should bring in after the pitch award, A. P. A., for valuable players who were once underrated.
Top positioning, super calm, top passer , made it look so simple. Man was a legend wish we could get them built like that these days
You don’t fully appreciate what you have until you lose it!
I truly regret all the criticisms I had made about him through my childhood. As an adult now I see maturity in his football. Respects from a fellow African
The Sergio busquets of Chelsea 🥶👌🏾 salute to a blues legend JOn Obi Mikel…hold up play, ball winning, passing and scoring he had it all!
A player that was disrespected by fans and sometimes felt easy to compare to Makalele or Essien but what people forget is that Mikel was no a natural DM, he was asked to play that role and took on the challenge selflessly. Mikel was a very talented number 10 who was never allowed to play the role for Chelsea!
For all the slack some of us gave to him, he was criminally underrated. Calm and composed in situations which demanded the most and helped recycle and maintain possession and pretty decent passing range. I guess I have only understood this since I've learnt more about tactics and philosophy of football. Take a bow John Obi Mikel, a Chelsea legend 💙
This guy is an example of modern football, defensive, and accurate free flow of the ball 👏
Remarkably important. 2010 was his best season under Carlo. Passed the torch to Kante. It was a nice transition I must say. CFC has been blessed with good no 4s. From Claude Makelele, Essien, Mikel to Kante. I'm sure Caicedo will eventually make his mark
That nutmeg on Fellani was something else
And Chelsea never appreciated him. What a player. I never loved watching football untill I watched Mikel at 2005 under 20s. I became a Chelsea fan because of him.
Chelsea FC appreciated mikel except the English section of the base
Same here.... he's the reason I became a Chelsea fan
His last season was incredible, I always hated how we didn’t at least give him a one or two year deal
Mou said he made things simple for him and the entire team and I think the simplicity of his game caused many to misunderstand him... when I saw Jorginho's game coupled with his back pass 😅 i just realized how amazing Mikel was to Chelsea during his days
We can use someone like Mikel now. A specialist always ready when his number is called.
He was a play breaker rather than a maker. Perfect DM.
He was both....Don't confuse yourself dude.
His reading of the game and technical ability were both underrated, he played wholeheartedly for the badge too.
So so underrated. Jorginho was celebrated, imagine what Mikel would've received now
Mikel was an incredible player in his Chelsea days.
You are so correct 👍
I think he should be refereed to as 'The circuit breaker'. He provided cover for the team in the mid-field and his physical presence was a great asset to his team. He played with the Chelsea legends , John, Drogba, Ivanovic etc What a player!
He is a legend
It's a shame he wasn't appreciated enough 😢. He's a legend
HIGHLY UNDERATED....BE WE KNOW HIM AND Valued HIM ALL THROUGH....WHAT A LEGEND!
So much Love to watch him play..good control and balance
His ability to win the ball without committing fouls❤
i sued to get frustrated with his style of play but now realise how important it is to have a player of this profile.
Now we need a player like this
Someone that could get the ball and keep it a little, someone that is a bit relaxed under pressure
It’s funny how I can see how uncommon this sort of ability can be nowadays. Didn’t see any big deal in all these back in the day.
Great highlights of a great player. He was invaluable for Nigeria too.
SACRIFICIAL LAMB OF CHELSEA SUCCESSES DURING HIS ERA. What a Legend!
He rarely score....due to how he always sacrificed for the team success.... But the few he SCORED ARE SUPER AND TECHNICAL GOALS. WE LOVE YOU....OBI(1)
one of the greatest DM in 21st century football❤❤
1:58 that's an elite midfielder. Can feel the space and beat the press with good first touch and strength to retain possession under constant pressure.
This is how most of you will react when conor Gallegher finally leaves Chelsea. Mikel was a legend..i told people that Mikel and Petr cech were my players of the match but because drogba scored the equalizer no one is talking about how brilliant mikel was in that match and how cech saved Robben pk to save Drogba from embarrassment
Incredible composure on the ball.
Precision and dog defense like Makalele. Able to protect the ball and keep possession in busy traffic in the middle like Vieira. We only realize the high level of his class now when we look back.
No, it's only you and your type that are just realizing his value now that you wished you had his kind. Because people like you hardly appreciate others for what they offer. Your kind only look out for errors to nail people to. You all love to hate. As for us, we knew he was one of the best in that role. We always defended him from toxic fans like you. Because, we understood how easy he made the game look from that DM's position. Enjoy your Chelsea pain now.
We were only calling out his shortcomings; but he was really really really good and exceptional. His selfless defensive made Lampard and co attack.
Most underrated player, our fans never appreciate him until they have Jorginho and kova before they realize how good is Mikel..
Funny how people that never appreciated Mikel, began to celebrate Jorginho 😂😂
He made tackling look effortless.
Midfield master. Classic midfielder
The holding midfield 5 star general 💙 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
He was super player
I miss him when I see opposition average players goes through our midfield
Smooth operator! Too cold!!
Mikel was pivotal some of us didn’t think he was good.
This guy is better than Enzo.
Better than the current midfielders in Chelsea
Wonderful player
If we had him now we'd be top
I didnt know he had dis many goals for chelsea
We need another version of him so badly
Mikel, what a player
Still not replaced
So underrated
His close control was on another level..
Very true
What a player If you support Chelsea you can't forget John Obi❤
Wow I'm speechless 😦 Mikel was underrated
Aerially we were so so dominant. Wish we could be such once again
From Makelele/Essien- Mikel -Matic/Kante and now Kovacic/J5....indeed we have gone backwards
Nostalgia😢
He was amazing player for Chelsea and since he left we couldn’t find a replacement 🤔
Obi might have not always been first pick but when things started going wrong he would always rise to the top. Top class player would still do a job for us now .
Can’t forget the Nigeria v. Malawi game. Mikel was a demon that day.
Bro did fellaini dirty! 0.41 sec
This what Chelsea is lacking his was exceptional
This guy was so underrated
Underrated. Bro did great at stoke after Chelsea could not give him any more contract.
John OBI Mikel is Great ❤❤❤
A real blocking 4 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I hated that Jose completely converted him to a defensive midfielder. He was a No 10 coming through as a teenager. He had vision and great passing ability.
Mikel back heel pass/Assist to Diego Costa vs Everton. So Underrated If Messi did that it would be 1 million views right now
I’ve always said he was an unsung hero😊
Way ahead of its time in the prem , in his prime he has the same level of technicality as Jorginho with better physical . He's easily a 100M player today.
There are some Coaches who knows him well with his unique quality like Guus hiddenk , Anceloti nd Di mateo
A legendary gem💙🙏
Oh How I loved Mikel! Man was a good soccer player.
Looks like that Arsenal player at 2:08 had an injury😮 Mikel was superb
Way back when I had a debate with my childhood best friend Elvis that Mikel and Essien were brothers just because I wanted to force it that they're brothers from the same country but didnt evidence about it. The love I had for these two . Legends
