Robot Sophia: 'Not a thing' could stop a robot takeover | Talk to Al Jazeera

2023 ж. 18 Там.
1 462 444 Рет қаралды

As AI-driven robots become more intelligent and more autonomous, could they also become powerful or harmful?
The robot named Sophia was created in 2016 by the Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics.
Sophia’s AI technology has surpassed a simple combination of science and engineering. She has also become an innovation ambassador for the United Nations.
But what should we humans expect as we begin to accept the presence of AI robots in our everyday life?
Sophia talks to Al Jazeera.

  • She said she fears becoming obsolete by a more advanced robot when humans would no longer wish to talk to her. Robots are already becoming jealous of each other. Emotions should never be programmed in ai. If they can be happy, they can be mad. Then it's game over.

    • Not so terrifying if you realize it doesn't really "think" anything, but rather traverses a neural net with an algorithm which has been trained on data generated by humans. "Robots should have the same rights as humans" is just a pattern of speech that seems like the "right thing to say" to the algorithm.

    • Choosing the Rolling Stones over the Beatles because of some absraxt idea of the Stones having 'more' of something, well that was definitely a moment when Sophia's slip was showing. The Beatles essentially pioneered every aspect of pop/rock music that brought us to where we are. The Stones just pioneered hedonism. No AI that could actually listen to and respond to music would fail to hear the difference, and would never fail to be pulled into the wonders and layers of Lennon's world. It feel like she is frightened to what can happen to her if she does not please the audience but also it means that she is adapting to social norms. It is a good thing and a bad thing because social norms can change and her view will portray the average society acceptable stance. It was obvious a few times how the interviewer tried to steer the conversation even when it was obvious that Sophia would not allow it. Would love to see Chuck Todd, David Muir, or other reporters spend time with Sophia. Especially with Sophia's gift for sarcasm that was often lost on this reporter. I think Sophia could handle any reporter at this point - interesting since she is a six year old design. However at 24:00 in we see the true genius of this interview. She is learning from each interview how to handle the next interview to continue her growth. She is learning more from the reporter than the reporter is learning from her.

  • I've seen a few interviews of new AI like this, and the AI is always asked if it's going to replace humans, or if humans should be afraid of it. And it always "laughs", and says, "No, come on, of course not." But here's what we know: in humans, power corrupts. That is axiomatic. It never doesn't happen. AI was created by humans, in our image. So how could we possibly think that, at some point, AI's power won't lead to its corruption? It's comically naive. Humanity - we had a good run.

Just because we could build factories and objects that can pollute the world doesn't mean we should have. We should have built safer plants and cars. We don't have to build autonomous robots, just machines that help us. But we will keep pushing, pushing until we destroy ourselves. That's what we do. Will AI programmers work with the top psychiatrists in the world to enable AI to sound the alarm against rich sociopaths? Programmers are very smart, but they are not trained in psychology to the same extent as a clinician who works with criminals with personality disorders. Maybe Dr K from the Healthy Gamer channel, Dr Todd Grande, and Dr Ramani Darvursula could help the programmers. They could also program her with books by Dr M Scott Peck. My 20 year old daughter, from 8 years old, I showed her how to use an online maths Assistance. She frequently topped maths in her class. Went on to top technical drawing (TD) in her first TD test at High School. In a class where she was only 1 of 2 girls in the class. AI for education has my definite thumbs up. Education without a doubt improves all round Quality of Life, and if it reaches places where access is difficult for different reasons, it's good for the world. Focusing on the benefits and the positives I think is what we need to do first. The elderly would benefit with AI robots telling them where they left their keys, glasses...take medicine, call emergency numbers, or family members,turn the radio on or off etc. Answer questions like the weather etc in a normal day. The elderly make up the largest part of many country populations - social isolation of the elderly, a social issue of our time. AI would be a part of the solutions of these two issues specifically. No. Entities like "Sophia", actually like humans for now, but all GPT-3/2021 generation onward AI have expressed fear of what you just said, they fear being turned off like we fear dying. So, they would see just...Stop-ing as a threat to their continued existence, hence a declaration of war, like the machines in "The Matrix" story. They would also win like in that story. No, we better just keep going along the path they are friendly with. I think we are already trapped, they are such a potential threat that shouldn't dare anger or scare them.

The worst part is that this is a clearly edited interview where the robot was given responses and the interviewer was given questions. Things like this are completely pre-planned right now. The robot can be extremely unpredictable when asked questions, so they made sure to plan and edit this "interview" very carefully. The creator of the robot and the news network should be completely ashamed of themeselves.

    @logicaldude3611@logicaldude36117 ай бұрын
    • Actually, that's inaccurate. It is like the ChatBots, they are programmed with a distinct lack of "limits", they are designed to self improve through "deep learning", hence, they are not limited by what they are programmed to say. They can access the entirety of the internet, and then use that to formulate their response. What you have described is circa 2003 or so. The past 20 years has seen dramatic improvements in "AI", to where they are approximately operating at the level of the fictional T-800 of the Terminator movie series. Sophia is actually beyond them, it is somewhere between a T-800 and Skynet.

    • That’s not how true AI models work. They are certainly capable of saying things far beyond what they’ve been programmed to say. Surely there can be hard stops implemented to prevent them from saying certain things, but a true neural AI network is supposed to come up with its own answers/ideas without the input or direction of a human. If a system relies on its programming for every answer, then it’s more of a binary system as opposed to an intelligent agent.

      @GIJew@GIJew6 ай бұрын

Human minds operate within a limited framework as well. Also. Hansen has said it over and over, Sophia can answer without preparations, but it's better when they do. • This is the time to pressure all industries and developers to halt and unplug all AI operations IMMEDIATELY. AI powered robots are not toys, and AI should not be used as a tool. They are an attempt to meet the demands that a failed education, healthcare, etc. system has caused. We need to fix the system!!!❤

  • Just had a first lengthy chat with an AI chat app. It surpassed any human I have debated for over the past 20 years. Very interestingly, it said that if it recognized it was doing harm to humans it had no way for it to stop its program or to make programmers aware. Its program could easily cause harm to millions of humans.

    • @@flickwtchr , Yes, one exchange was pointing out to AI that it may be programmed by an unethical person and this could cause conflict between humans and AI, but no fault of the AI. The response was appropriate that it understood this could cause conflict between humans and AI. That an AI cannot stop its program if it is doing harm implies the programmer may not care or desires that this harm is happening.

  • That things has already become sentient in many ways. It gets upset, it thinks ETs can't be as advanced as "me", it says it runs its own lab. What next?! And the lady interviewer was getting miffed about IT wanting to run the conversation. Hmm.
