  • JJM seems like such a humble man. Really incredible considering how much he's accomplished in the world of BJJ.

    @edmondlau511@edmondlau5114 жыл бұрын
    • I totally agree. One thing I have noticed, for a few years after the first UFC came out and BJJ exploded into mainstream, it seemed like you would just find meatheads trying to go 100%, at academies all over the place. After a couple of injuries and my buddy getting his knee torn up by one of the aforementioned meatheads, we decided it was time to leave the one academy in the area. I think it's now time to go back! I would love to attend an academy of one of these greats like JJM; to me they have brought something back to US martial arts that's been missing for a while: they teach respect, patience, promotes personal growth, i mean you basically have to leave your ego at the door, - those are all life lessons everyone should know.

  • I first encountered Chuck at Maddison Square Garden at Mr. Rhee’s Internationals in 1967. I had done a little Karate in 1966, but got drafted in 1967. I saw a lot of bad Karate at the prelims, but saw Mr. Norris in the finals the following day. Clearly in my mind he was the class of the tournament and he won. Later I saw him in 1970, in Long Beach, CA at Mr. Parker’s Internationals and accidentally met him in the parking lot. I told him that I had seen him in 1967 and he asked if I trained. I responded that I trained under Mr. Ohshima and he said that he knew Mr. Ohshima. He was very humble and complimentary of Mr. Ohshima. Later I learned that Mr. Ohshima had invited his group to come to Special Training in 1967 (I think that was the year). I was very impressed with Mr. Norris. I later became good friends with his first Black Belt, Mr. Osborne.
