The second hand value is between $50-150 each, depending on which doll it is, the condition and how many accessories are included. They sell for the same prices in the UK too. So yes, there is a strong market for these dolls to be sold new in an AG store here, outside the US. I would rather spend that same money on new dolls available here.

  • Okay I know I'm a couple weeks late to this but I have some fun facts as a former American Girl employee in Seattle! Each doll takes years of planning and designing before they're launched and they put so much love and care into every story including doing extensive research into and collaborating with each culture they portray which I've always loved about the company. Plus a little humble brag: the author of the Maryellen books, Valerie Tripp, was visiting the Seattle store for a signing in, I believe, 2013 and met one of my old managers, Mary Ellen, who made such a positive impression, Valerie had American Girl name the doll after her! She even had them give her red hair like her namesake! Also one last fun fact about Maryellen, because she had polio, if you stand the doll up, you'll notice one of her legs is marginally shorter than the other. They don't miss a single detail.

  • Words can not express the feels that this video brought back to me. My identical twin sister, who tragically lost her life in 2022, grew up with American Girl dolls in the 90s and 2000s. We were born in 1988. I still have the original 3, Kirsten also being my 1st doll. Samantha was my sisters 1st. along with several others. We also made our own twins ( who at the time both looked a lot like Kit) in the early 2000s when they still had the American Girl Doll store in Chicago. My nonni would take us every year for our birthday. I still have my dress that matches Kirstens original dress. I know they are worth money, but there is no amount that would ever let me sell the,m. They have brought so much joy to my nieces and still to myself. Thank you for posting this, it let me sit back and remember some of the happiest moments I had as a kid with my sissy. xoxo Jax

  • This gave me so much nostalgia! ❤ when I was young, there was a 4-year period where I got an american girl doll every year for my birthday and I got to choose which one I wanted each year and it was always sooo exciting! My first doll was Samantha, then Josefina (she was my favorite), then one of the truly me dolls (that i named Penny for some reason lol), then Jess Girl of the Year 2006 ❤ I loved them all but I was OBSESSED with Josefina! I thought she was the prettiest doll ever, I loved her dress and her hair and her hoop earrings. I also loved reading the books for the dolls and hers were my favorite. I just remember relating to her so much and she had a pet goat and I loved everything about her. Her hair was so long and thick though and I loved it but my tiny little 8 year old self had no idea how to take care of it, so she certainly didn't look her best once i took her braid out (which i obviously did immediately) 😂

  • It's fascinating how these dolls have evolved over the years. I liked the historical dolls when I was younger and I had so many of the books. I had the original Felicity though I had the mini dolls of Kirsten and Josephina. I wanted another but my mother wouldn't get me any new cloths for the doll either so another doll was out of the question so I just enjoyed the one I had.

Who knows, maybe one of the kids will grow up and reminisce about their first American Girl doll and do a video like this one. My Grandmother got me a custom made American Girl doll when I was little, I had no idea what they were because I didn't play with dolls or Barbies but it was always so special to me.

I would make toys for them out of clay and cardboard, my grandmother and my great-aunt sewed me entire wardrobes for them, and I had a few off-brand furniture and accessories. I played all the American girl games, read the books, watched the movies, and got the catalog every month. I got Kaya and Samantha, and my sis got Felicity and Josefina. Reading all the books was actually very fun and interesting. The amount of research they did was astounding, but also the themes they tackled for young girls to read and understand was eyeopening and an amazing way to teach history that young girls might not otherwise learn. Even after, I read the other historical girl dolls because the stories were just that great. We still have the dolls in good condition since our mom would emphasize taking care of them (they were expensive!).
