Dropping a Gopro Down a Flooded Mine Shaft

Hiking in the Cahaba Coal Fields, @MrTropics64 and I stumbled across an open air shaft that would have went deep down inside this abandoned coal mine. According to the maps, in 1906, this air shaft would have extended down 600 feet (183 meters) reaching the inner workings of the mine. Wondering what or who is down there, as this would make a good dumping spot, we decide to get our fishing pole and drop a GoPro to see. Outside of an open shaft, coming across a fan house with the fan and blades still intact is a rare find. If you enjoy this, consider subscribing for more adventures, and be sure to give Mr Tropics 64 a look as well

I wonder how many animals have died because nobody bothered to cover this death trap.
Why is that not covered or at least fenced off? Imagine walking around there in the dark
It was at one point. You can see the metal fence poles. Just deteriorated away.
Don't be trespassing on other people's land and you won't fall in a hole
@@floydgumke235 do you actually know that where he is standing is private land or are you just talking out of your arse
Right, I was thinking about an animal falling in there
I mean it's private property and I'm sure it's fetched off farther back. Just can't see it . The people who are legally allowed there know where to go and where not.
How the hell has this not been capped or fenced off, anybody or any poor unfortunate animal could fall down there in the dark. Could even be a missing person down there. Its appalling that the authorities have just left this open like this. Total lack of respect for safety.
Shut the fuck up stop relying on the government for protection.
Fence the fucking mine people could fall in ot animals could drown so FUCKING FENCE IT YOU BITCHES
It’s really interesting history and the reason they didn’t cover it is because there is hundreds of these in PA alone, most of them unmapped and in the middle of the woods. It would be impossible to cover them all let alone find all of them. Holes like this are where a “fan house” was, many years ago, essentially a small building with a huge fan providing fresh air to a mineshaft. Some of these still have the fan house covering them, I have seen multiple in person. Anywhere from 20 feet to 100 feet deep or more. Pretty crazy.
That mine should be listed on Department of Mines and Energy historical registrar, someone needs to put a cover over that mine entrance
Can’t believe it’s not covered
I wonder why that huge hole isn't covered up or a big fence to be put around it ,to keep animals and people out .
It might have originally been covered but eventually the wood rotted away
@@ButterBallTheOpossum rotted or animal walked over and boom, fell to its grave. These holes they need to cover with metal and then put railings around it
There’s also hundreds of these, all unmapped and in the middle of nowhere PA, it would be impossible and too expensive to find and cover all of them.
They all used to have a building covering them
We hope you enjoyed this episode of Go Pro fishing for Bituminous Trout.
The fan would suck air out, not force it in Any open shaft even on private land would be completely illegal here
In a coal mines are never Force air into the coal mine they always suck it out and if you look at the fan again you can see it has to suck out and the most important reason I always suck out instead of blowing in is if there's a gas pocket in there and it blows up you don't want to blow towards you as you're working that way it sucks the gas out and not blows the flames back towards you just a note
I agree with people in the comments, why don’t they have fence?
Man…. So very cool. Spooky noises under water lol. Another great video. Thanks for the adventure.
From the video doesn't seem to go to far unless that's a false floor covered in dirt and debris and the fan depending on the main audits location was to create a vacuum pulling air in through the main audit and other shoots lower in that location and judging by the fans blades that's what they were doing.
Thats a death and a half man id have had to have built some sort of fence round it with all the dead fall logs and stuff like that before i left sketchy as hell that is
That’s a good idea, but you have to find the shaft first and get the right amount of logs you can find.
Chainsaw just lay some big trees over it better then just a hole in the ground
Cool find. Wouldn’t want be out hunting and stumble across one like that early morning or late eve. Know ur area if u can where u hunt. These old mines , surface cracks all over these woods. Might b days if help comes if ever. Be careful everyone. Try let someone u trust know ur general area if ur out exploring, hunting. AND stick to the plan you tell them. Stay safe y’all. Have fun.
So cool!! Must have been a big mouse with a big piece of cheese to run that fan!!! I cant believe that fan is still there!! Great Find!!!!
Huge fan of your channel!😁😁
I like how towards the end he talked about the fan like 4 times before actually talking about it

In which shitty country are mine shafts unsecured?
Looks like iron and aluminum precipitation on the bottom of the floor. Did you guys test the AMD for any chemical parameters? Great fan house! You should have seen the Dorrance Fan House in Wilkes-Barre, PA!
Man that water is clear. Need to put fish in it
Looks like any other aquarium
That looks like a waterwheel
