Iceland volcano: Drone footage captures stunning up-close view of eruption
A drone captured stunning close-up shots of lava bubbling in the crater of a volcano on Tuesday that began erupting near Iceland's capital Reykjavik on Friday.
0:15 The drone operator braved the snow and biked seven kilometres to the volcano which is not accessible by road, and captured lava pouring from the crater, down the side of the volcano, and into a lava field.
The eruption, which occurred near Fagradalsfjall, a mountain on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland, followed thousands of small earthquakes in recent weeks and was the first on the peninsula since the 12th century.

Strange how something so powerful and threatening can be so beautiful at the same time.
Red eruptions are for the most part harmless other than what gets overrun by lava...

@@parichaysrivastava ya think?
I think you're right. Getting this close to a live eruption with a camera and producing such top quality images is a real technical feat (how come the drone didn't melt or the lenses were not scorched or smoked up?)
@@louise_rose a lot of drones have been lost in the volcano so far the lava coming out of this volcano is at a temperature of 1200° C. I'm guessing there would be some kind of zoom on the drone for that shot not to melt the drone but I'm no drone expert xD
@@Nobrainerist I was thinking too that some of this would be zoom footage, or "teleobjektiv" as it's called in Swedish, but this doesn't make it any less brilliant as a film/camera achievement. :)
The volcano in snow recalls the memory from 2016, when I visited Iceland. Every single moment was just stunning. It is mind-bending when we see glacier in the morning and then boiling earth in the evening.

Oh my gosh that is the greatest footage of an active volcano I've seen in my whole life. And the reason for this is that this is such a quintessential ideal version of a volcano! It looks exactly like the kind that you would have seen in diagrams at school, in cartoons, or any other kind of media that involves a volcano being depicted with graphics. Specifically, it is the shape of a small mountain that steepens towards the top and has a super active very angry red lava lake that is pouring lava like crazy. It's literally like something from a videogame! Volcanoes are never this perfect and beautiful!! I'm gonna send this to all the kids that I'm connected with and hope they're as excited as I am by this!!

Kudos to the videographer, this video made it into the news here in Iceland! It looks UNREAL, like some sort of high class Hollywood animation. An absolut one of a kind masterpiece! And speaking as a fellow Icelandic here, most of us wouldn't DARE to even get close to the active vulcanoes that got lava flowing inside them close to the surface still. I wonder how the authorities let him get so close because usually drones are prohibited in a 5KM radius when a vulcanoe is erupting here and they won't let civilians even NEAR the scene to watch it up close. So this is literally some "once in a lifetime" - footage!

@Best Times I don't know where you got your definition of "emo music" but this music isn't it.
@@rogerc23 Seriously
WOW. I never thought the lava was like a "soup" inside, I thought it was exploding from underneath. This volcano is just too beautiful, completely symmetrical and perfect!
That is due to the chemistry of the magma/lava itself. This is primarily basalt, which is a runny, yet heavy variety of lava (mafic). The kinds of volcanoes that explode are typically a totally different kind of magma and lava. They're more felsic, and are a lot more viscous/less runny. They explode because though the lava/magma is not as heavy as these basaltic ones, it's a lot thicker, so it plugs itself up and allows pressure to build. Sorta like if you cover the nozzle of a running garden hose with your finger, and you get a powerful jet from the hose. But with the rhyolitic and andesitic kinds of lava, it would be like plugging a hose that is pushing pressurized toothpaste or honey instead of water, so when the pressure builds, it can really pop off. Thankfully, these basaltic volcanoes are not nearly as dangerous, because they're more runny so they're usually not prone to plugging up and exploding.
@@evilcam wow thank you for the info!
It’s the gasses mostly SO2 that causes the lava to explode under pressure most volcanos just erupt lava slowly like a slow dripping faucet
0:30 such a breathtakingly beautiful view of a volcano!

A tunnel straight to the centre of the earth, while it reminds us were living on a thin film of frozen lava
Ikr
Well kinda I learned this in school we live on the crust yes thin layer but then there’s the mantel but it’s soft and it’s always moving that’s what cause earthquakes there’s another layer or two I forgot and the core is the centre of the earth but just think all this lava has made its way from the core to the surface that’s insane
Not to the center of the Earth, but from a relatively shallow bubble of magma pushing up from the mantle.
We live on the burnt marshmellow crust
volcanos do NOT go to the center of Earth. You've been lied to. Not even globe teaching teaches that. The Earth is flat and motionless. Wake up
Just look at it go. Looks small tbh compared to other volcanoes. But breathtaking. The sky, smoke, ash with the contrast of the black crust and the lava which is red, orange and yellow is just mesmerizing. Absolutely stunning🌋
