When we first saw the HiPhi X at the Beijing Auto Show last year, we had strong doubts about how it would work in the real world. Well, turns out we were right in some ways, but very wrong in others.

  • Hats off to Ethan for the great presentation - in the scorching heat. I tried one in the Shanghai Auto Show. It felt like a private jet and was priced accordingly. Then the other day I found one parking next to me in my own city. Holy cow - I remember telling myself - so there actually are people buying it!

    • The reason why traditional carmakers being conservative not because they can't but they want to cope with the logistics for global mass production and not to mention all the features need to be carefully observed so it can pass every regional regulations. Just look at their concept cars, they're capable inventing many weird, ultra advanced features but it doesn't make sense for mass production, like that complicated dual hinged rear door system in this car, there's too many error fatality can happen if it appears on popular car model like say a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. EV start-up like this Hi-Phi brand, Nio or even Tesla can do so many over the top stuffs because their cars, despite increasing sales still niche in number compared to traditional carmakers unit sales. My 2 cents ...

  • this is a terrific ride I must say. this video makes me admire it even more, I didn't know it was this beastly if not for this video. in my opinion, it can come close to the best western cars. i have a concern with the ergonomics of the front passenger seat, i feel the passenger will have to bend the neck substantially to watch a video on that gorgeous screen. and i feel the ride's ground clearance is rather too low. otherwise these less significant observations, i love and this car. well done HiPhi, well done china.

  • Great review! This car reminds me of the Citroen DS5 but a more modern version. I like the back doors although i wonder how long that will last without leaking or breaking. the screens eveywhere are cool but I also am stumped at its safety rating, (as a screen in front of the passaenger can't be good in a frontal collision). The rear seats in the front row are awesome although it seems you can control the driver seat? The LED lights out side the car is really cute to show animations to the car behind you! -more options than just a blinker! Does it self drive?

  • This design is just supercool, looks stunning in a video, must look even better in the metal. Especially from the side view it transcends any car type to me and would be the only car I´d need, being sporty, sleek and spacious at the same time. Imagine this car lowered and equipped with even more appealing aftermarket wheels ! I am a german guy, but i must say I always had a feeling that German car design is too conservative, since the german manufacturers are attached too much to their design evolution of the previous models. Now the Chinese come and do a design that is futuristic, exciting and emotional all at once ... What they mastered perfectly here is that it looks futuristic but not too futuristic at the same time. To me, compared to the recent NIO cars, they nailed the interior here as well, which makes this car pretty irresistable. Though this interior is packed with screens, it somehow manages to give you quite a cozy feeling. I would buy this one anytime over a german car, sad but true, at least with the models offered these days. Great presentation by the way !
