4:37 That's a good thing. Most people hear "turbulence" and they might think it's a bad thing because the most common place they hear that word is air travel. But if your goal is to mix fluids, you want AS MUCH turbulence as possible. More fluid mixing also means a more uniform temperature of the mixed fluid, which means better heat transfer off the fins (because you won't get any boundary layer sticking to the fins). Good Job, Acer.
You want linear turbulent flow, meaning the flow is mixing along the axis of flow and not back in itself which would reduce flow rate.
If that's a metal fan, is this a more practical implementation of the old Sandia rotating heatsink concept?
@@RocketSlug No, it's just a very nice metal-fabricated fan, not a heatsink haha
Thank you for this explanation
kzhead.info/sun/dsiNaNFqhGKNrYk/bejne.html Acer themselves said the opposite lol.
My favorite part was the durability test where he just threw the laptop at the table every time it was picked up. Good lookin out.

That idea of having the fan run full blast in reverse to remove the dust when you turn the device on is genius.
Unless... it gets all sucked in after.
Having just bought a Helios G300 I was wondering why it did that on startup. Now I know!!
@@orionzeden That's so cool!! I want my XPS to do that xD (cleaned it out two months ago and found actual fluff)
If you have ever cleaned a PC or a laptop you'll realize that that little fan spinning in reverse for a few seconds will do nothing whatsoever. It's just a marketing gimmick. Dust gets baked on so hard that even powerful air compressors have hard time removing it. Often you need to physically brush it away.
It's going to suck the dust into the system. That fans blades aren't designed to create turbulence, it's a mulcher.
Acer: *Sponsors an LTT video* LTT: "Everyone copy Acer!"
It's nuts how many laptops each company has dropped, and also nuts how much content you guys have pushed out!
You know who else is nuts? Acer, the sponsor of this video. Find out more about them at the end.
@@lunex7857 your one video 🤔
How long does it take to "make" a laptop? Maybe they're operating on Quarantine assumptions about Laptop buying.
Need an LTT-Ads channel for that. Covering new stuff is fine, but the almost aggregated 1 hour shoving pure advertisement into hour brains... Sure, big money for LMG, but me not likey :(
Yeah we're gonna need a giant round up / comparison with actual prices down the road .. there's like 45+ new laptops with all different ranges of power, size, and gimmicks. Need something to actually compare these all together not just 1 by 1 videos trying to keep track.
I love the route they went with the Helios. It actually feels like a step up from the nitro series.
GEEZ I'm freakin sick and tired of laptops on shaky smartphone video, enough is enough! Is this CES thing finally over? Will we get at least WAN show tonight??
I've just bought the Helios with a 3070 and an i9 and it's a really good laptop, best price to performance on the market right now, for my budget of GB£1500 anyway.
@@RandomUser2401 CES is awesome what are you talking about
@@piuchoudhury6493 it‘s freakin annoying and lame. 95% of the products are boring. And they waste a full week of videos on it.
@@RandomUser2401 I don't agree. You can find a lot of coverage on cool stuff at CES.
Acer: Sponsors video Also Acer: Kicks the host out of their booth before said video is done
I noticed that too 😂
You will get my money, but not my respect.
They probably have a schedule for these filming opportunities where you have the whole booth to yourself, but still funny that they just handed a whole stack of early production model laptops to them and then kicked them out.
but hey atleast free food
@@CptDuck looks like a hotel's lobby food or part of a conference or banquet Hall food service
I can feel the company representatives screaming internally every time Alex juggles or slams a laptop in this video series.
Nah, every model of an electronic device that goes to CES is expected to be broken at some point Its very rare for anyone to pull an Xbox anymore
This is exactly how i treated my acer swift. Now that i have a mac its kinda heavy and cant really toss it around as easily
I remember when I bought my last laptop (quite a few years back now, it has a gen 3 or 4 i7 in it) I'd gone into Micro-Center with a specific model in mind and the worker flat out told me I should avoid the particular model I was looking out because the kept breaking then showed me a similar model (with a similar price) laptop and literally banged on it to show how durable it was. Still got the old beast floating around somewhere but the hard drive is held in by one wrong sized screw and the battery is long dead.
I want to say how grateful I am for Alex going around and buttering all of the trackpads at CES. Truly the hero we need.
As someone who currently uses one of last gen's swifts, I can say that they have done very well with cooling and I/O over the past couple of years!
I love the continued shade at Dell for no headphone jack.
@@lunex7857 I’m proud of you
Cuz it is stupid to dietch headphone jack in laptop which is unlikely to have space issues just for that port
Alex's video are always so great! I hope you pay him well.
@Anamika goddamn why are you there on every ltt video gtfo
No, Linus pays him in McDonald's coupons.
Acre certainly plenty for the advertisement.
Have a Ryzen 5 powered Swift 3 that's treated me very well for like... year and a half now, and had a couple of their old netbooks before that, seems to be pretty solid things.
The first laptop reminds me of the Legion 5 Pro line (in 16x10) that I picked up a year ago. Except no nub on the Acer. I'll keep it in mind if a brother or friend is looing for a good gaming lite laptop.
The value on the starting model for the Swift X 14 is great, an actually sensible price for a non-gimped starting model
I love lower profile Acer's laptops look vs everyone elses. I would be embarrassed to rock as much gaudy RGB as some of those other gaming laptops have that have been shown this week. Sure, you can turn it off, but you're still paying for it, and it just seems so needless. EDIT: Okay, just got to the 3 minute mark in the video and Alex literally just said what I was thinking. Well, good to know I'm not alone in that thought.
I love how fast today's laptops are but I hate how literally every single one of them absolutely will throttle if maxed out for a while, so you can never get the full performance out of what you're paying for.
If you don't want to have a laptop to overheat quickly, don't get the most powerful laptop. Or just limit FPS. Mine never throttles. Not every one of them does.
Using a cooling pad may help, especially if your laptop sucks air in from the bottom. The Klim Mistral cooling pad's been working out for me.
It's crazy, but an Alder Lake Core i7-12700K desktop chip with the 8+4 config actually stays cooler and has more perfomance per watt at lower power levels than many 12th gen and 13th gen chips, also you can apply an undervolt to that i7-12700K while you can't for Alder Lake and Raptor Lake in general for some reason. Either i would waste $4000 bucks on a laptop with an i9-12980HX that performs like an i7-12700K thanks to thermal throttling and power limits with annoying fan noise, or build a Corsair 5000D Airflow, i7-12700K system with DDR5 and my chip has AVX512 (2021 batch, emulation beast obviously) too with Deepcool Assassin 3, many NVMe drives and 32GB DDR5 for $1500 and totally silent pc for music production 🤷♂️...
@@SkullTrooper-kb7hm Put it in a sustained GPU and / or CPU load and I bet it will throttle. The super tiny heatsinks in these things simply can't deal with barely any wattage load.
Sacrifices you have to make for portability
Finally laptop screens getting some love from the manufacturers
Does this mean there's no WAN show today??
- "They didn't screw out in IO" - So they have an ethernet port! They have an ethernet port, right...?
$1,700 on the 18 isn't bad at all... I'm seriously considering it for my upgrade after a review. Which I would love to see!!!
Why did they drop the 3:2 swift?
What's a current laptop that has the same spec/price ratio as the Swift X 14 base model? I need a new laptop asap, but the X 14 is nog for sale yet? Any suggestions?
is it possible to get a matte screen for the swift x 14? that screen looks hella reflective
The Swift X got a 20% price increase from previous gen, I got my (amd) Swift X for $999 from Amazon - minus some small discounts
Wow! Didn't expect Acer to actually make great stuff! Always went for Asus or Lenovo before. Now I think Acer will also be entering the competition
Acer has been low quality for so many years, its gonna take more than this to convince me. Im still with asus and lenovo for now
Their swift line laptops are excellent, got one for my father. It was below 1k eur and the build quality is extremely impressive. Its almost on the level of macbooks.
Sometimes they have really awesome cheap laptops but I'm talking mostly about models similar to swift. If we are looking at gaming models.. they are all going to be bad after using them for some time. Maybe for a year the laptop will be good but then you'll meet a lot of problems with it. And you'll probably find out what acer cheaped out on. Had a predator helios 300 laptop that couldn't handle its hot cpu (i7-9750h) and there were moments where it could even turn off. The Temps were around 95-98 degrees Celsius. Obviously I cleaned the dust, changed thermal paste and etc. but it didn't help whatsoever. Obviously I tried disabling turbo and undervolting but then I lost too much performance and I was just sad cuz u pay so much and then u don't even get what you pay for. What I found interesting is that the keyboard on the predator was horrible and the keys could break on their own (after around 1.5 years of use).. and then I have a swift laptop that has amazing keyboard where the keys don't have problems after 1.5 years of use. Ngl acer is kinda weird.. Also I really love the fact that the predator laptop had drivers for windows 10 and yet it still has old windows 10 drivers and the bios didnt got too much updates... Then again if I look on my swift laptop I see that I even get constant bios updates and I get driver updates and I got windows 11 drivers. (This was a problem to me since the windows 10 predator drivers weren't working well with windows 11, especially the microphone built into the laptop..)
Did you expect an ad paid for by Acer to say Acer was bad?
Asus is actually the bad one in my experience. Have switched to acer and see how reliable their laptops are. Don't buy Asus, they have horrible firmware
My favorite part of these videos is listening to Alex tell me how "FANTASTIC" everything is
Looking at the current acer website I can't seem to find an acer swift with a 13.5 inch screen. Do you know whether it has been discontinued or if it could make a comeback? That could become a direct competitor of the surface laptop, ideally with a 13th gen intel.
2:37 LMG employee giving Acer reps a heart attack
The Swift X 14 seems really similar to the Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X I got at Costco last month while it was on sale. Really appreciate that other manufacturers are starting to make similar devices, it's really nice to be able to play some games on my laptop without having it be some massive beast that's too annoying to be reasonably portable.
Their 2021 Swift X also a very great laptop while being thin and light. Of course if you don't mind with 40w rtx 3050, otherwise you could add $600 more and go for rog x13
@@alieffauzanrizky7202 Is the intel i7 variant of Swift X 2022 still in the market? I tried searching but it didnt show up.
I would love it if you guys took a closer look at the Helios 18 after it comes out. I'm feeling the need to upgrade this year and that screen sounds amazing.
Having browsed for laptops recently, the Swift 5 series really stand out in the 14" 16:10 market. The finish and IO matches higher end products. And surprisingly it was more expensive than a Zenbook. So I went that direction instead.
when your sponsor kicks you out of the booth.... but you gotta keep going lol
I love the fact that these are new laptop models and acer’s representatives are behind the camera and he keeps on tossing the laptops around and dropping on to the table. 😂
I love the ports on my old Acer … and the touch screen!
I got a Predator Helios 300 with a 1050ti 5 years ago, after a couple years I had to clean the heatsink but it still runs great.
To be honest, the Swift X14 reminds me a lot of the old Asus laptop I picked up in 2015. Similar form factor and IO, though it had a GT 1030 rather than a 3050. So the swift x14 is probably a bit better at gaming.
$1200 is a reasonable price for the first laptop considering the configuration and the fact that it’s OLED
2:29 NVIIDA first time i've seen a typo in a LTT vid that I can remember
Acer has always impressed me my first system acer m1201 amd based honestly only retail board that had decent bios and was upgradeable to phenom ii etc etc

Actually I am really curious to what laptop manufacturer will manage to come out on top this year. Am os ASUS rn, am hyped for Clevo and Lenovo
You can just tell that the sponsor requested the extra line on the sponsorship and the Intel outro at the lest minute. I can only assume it's part of a contract Acer has with Intel. Maybe they consider this an advertisement for the intel-based laptops and have to follow their agreement for those? It just feels out of place.
Hey Alex can you model that fan in idk solidworks and test out their claimed fan terbulance or dust cleaing design...........Would be great for testing out the cooling of the fan
Acer: sponsors video Also Acer: kicks them out of the booth
With all these cool new laptops coming out, I wish I could’ve waited before I bought mine 😂 that being said, it’s hard to beat the Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 with the 3050ti for under $800 it’s been great for college, and gaming
4:11 Zalman is still alive?! I'm running one of their vertical coolers since AM2 socket became a thing. Never needed to change it.
i have been waiting for the swift x series to fall under LTT's radar. it's just so underrated!
OLED displays in laptops is going to be amazing
W/ how popular they're becoming, surprised my sub box isn't being flooded w/ OLED screen saving innovation videos.
I hope the swift x14 has maybe a 3060 or 4060 because then that would be pretty good for what I need it
The highest end configuration is RTX 4050, it doesn't offer 3060 or 4060 so look elsewhere
Showcase rhe 3d display from msi?
6:12 Not sure if anyone noticed but the new acer nitro logo is one half of the acer predator logo which is pretty neat
Looks nice. The first laptop with a base model WITHOUT a dedicated GPU would be nice
Asus have a vivobook version with 45w cpu without a dGPU
The one thing i know about Acer is that they make the Chromebooks they have to my cousin, and their way better than the dell one that i got
Love the guy in the mirror nodding at Alex in 8:58
2:55 Alex looks at the Acer rep the way my dog looks at me when he knows he shouldn't be doing it but has to do it anyway 😂😂 love it 👍 💯 cute

@@LNSLateNightSaturday Alex fans assemble!
when will they start selling those? i can not find any of the new laptops anywhere and no one says when will they appear
I would like to see Apple doing more fan innovations like this. They had the variable fin spacing and then the split fin fans a few years ago, but as far as I see it's regular plastic fans since then.
Need those 3d screens on more laptops or may be on some monitors in future.
Yes, more 3D-monitors please.

please put #ad in the title so i know not to click on these sorts of sponsorships
ask them why AMD laptops are so rare. They are significantly better than Intel Evo platform laptops. Ask them why people want worse performance and battery life and pay more money for it?
Interesting! What is the weight?
one thing i love about acer is there fans always have a nice sound and sound like a high pitch whine
I think Acer's biggest issue is the sheer number of different models, model numbers, variants, and reusing names Simplify it instead of having 40 different variants of each models
Silly CES, no time limit will stop Alex from getting to those laptops.
Loving the laptops videos, and ripping apart the products right in front of the reps lol
are there any affordable laptops that have an integrated nvidia quadro gpu?
I'd sworn off Acer because I've had a laptop and a desktop from them and they were both utter shyte. They keyboards especially. But it looks like they've come a long way over the years. Maybe I'll let the Acer shills at LTT change my mind. 😉
is it because the quality is bad? i’ve heard so much about their poor quality and low lifespans

I work at a large game company. Whooping out a big honking Acer Predator Helios 300 at business meetings is not frowned upon. 😊
How is 1200$ a good price for a rtx 3050 laptop? I'm genuinely confused, I know it has the oled display but is that worth the 600$+ premium??
It's a refreshed version of the 3050 but with 6GB of VRAM. Everything new is in this machine. It's normal for it to be that expensive.
it's also a thin and lite business oriented laptop which will always be a bit more expensive than your entry level gaming laptops. 1200 bucks compared to the competition is actually really good in that product category!

2:30 - That's great and all, but the deal-breaker for me is the lack of a numberpad.
Interesting how I never paid attention to the sound quality in LTT videos, but in this one, where the sound is f*cked, it bothers me. Guess we humans get used to good things easily. Thank you Linus for always investing in sound quality in the videos(well, other than this one).
