    • He looks less like one once he gets above 280, but he's still a lot leaner than those powerlifters. They don't care about being lean at all. I know Larry has gotten to 300 before, and he didn't like it because he wasn't as lean and didn't feel as good at 315. Keep in mind he's not as lean even at 275, so it's not like he's competition ready doing these lifts, he still has the advantage of eating a lot. As long as they're similar weight it's not a disadvantage to be leaner. If you're very lean it is, but Larry is not very lean like a bodybuilder in these, just leaner than the guys he's competing against.

    • There is a reason it is valid to choose your style. A good sumo lifter will never pull conventional the same amount nor will a good conventional lifter pull the same weight on sumo. The conventional records are pretty similar too the sumo ones (in fact a little higher). It depends on your body type. Eddie Hall said he could never in his life pull 500 KG sumo for example. If your body type is best for conventional, you won't pull sumo that much. Long story short: sumo totally fine in comp.

  • Idc what anyone says that sumo deadlift total of Browner’s should be totally discounted and his total erased from the record books. That’s not to take away from the Browner or the strength it takes to do a heavy sumo deadlift, but it’s not the same because the distance the weight moves is cut literally in half thus making it an entirely different movement. To put things in perspective imagine doing a wr bench press raw with your grip all the way out to the beginnings of the sleeves and the short distance of that rep. That fully extended bench rep is tantamount to doing a sumo deadlift. That is why Larry’s record for that weight division should still stand.

  • The guy who "beat" Larry's record is incredible especially that squat. The deadlift wasn't held long enough and bench was questionable, he got red lights for a reason.

  • Difference here is that Larry Wheels was hitting these records long time ago and while being alot leaner than everybody else. On top of doing other sports such as strongman, armwrestling and bodybuilding.
