A 3 part series on this 1/16th scale Heng Long RC Russian T90 MBT rebuild. This is part 1 where I go over the model at the start of the build, and talk about some of the revisions and upgrades that are needed to be made to the model.

I like it, the Z is actually pretty cool insignia to have on vehicles
I'm glad that someone still remember T-90 with cast turret. Actually, this type of engine, tracks and turret, was used only in commanders T-90K version, which lose mounts for a mine ploughs and rollers in frontal upper and lower glacis, but receive another antennae base and antennae case below rear turret box.

Good choice of subject. I spent a happy Saturday afternoon fitting all the accessories and drilling out the dshka on mine. I painted one with red Zs as per the Wagner "coup" convoy. I also adopted Mr Tanks a lot's umbrella material mod to the mantlet cover. The Toucan Hobby''s red eye kit is also a worthwhile addition.
Good idea on the mantlet cover. I go over this in part 2, where I see a few areas I would like to enhance with upgrades if / when I get another one of these kits for myself. For this owner he just wanted a polished up repaint w/ some metal upgrades
ps a useful mod is to remove the battery compartment to allow a larger battery and incorporate a magnet and tab mod to secure the hull top and abandon the standard screws.
I was thinking about the battery well mod too, but the stock one was fine for this build. I also did the magnet mod on the rear because I deleted the screws in those locations because they were visible and hurt the look. I also moved the switch from the rear to under the turret loader hatch. The old locations were blended away with the bodywork

I bought the desert camo "Pro" because I could not get the "green" one in the 'Pro" upgrade. Ordered my "Z" decals anyway !!!! 🙂
No BB kill switch anymore. Not for a long time now - not since the 6.0 system was released. The need to use both buttons to fire BBs unless you change that setting on the motherboard replaced the BB switch. Since 6.0 HL now has both BB and IR built in from the factory - no longer one or the other. The top IR piece is the IR receiver (mushroom) as the Tamiya version is called an "apple". The IR emitter is next to the main gun. Since 6.0, the IR system is able to give and receive hits with Tamiya IR tanks. The HL doesn't have the full function Tamiya battle system, but they can at least shoot each other. The "red eyes" are called dazzlers. They are meant to disrupt incoming laser guided ATGMs essentially "jamming" it. But since most ATGMs are not laser guided, they are of limited use and from what I know about them they are not automatically triggered. They also must be pointed at the incoming ATGM to work. Might want to replace the HL speaker as the 7.0 mainboard eats those cheap speakers for some reason. There have been a lot of failures reported.

Unusual to see a T90 with its turret attached since normally they are found 50 to 500 ft away
If you think that's unusual. Take a look at the Bradley fighting vehicles and Abrams. There turrets are usually a 1000 plus feet away. Shh, don't tell the Pentagon. They have Bradley's to sell.
