  • As a retired designer this reminds me why I became one! Looking back it was really fun and rewarding work, especially while "on the board". The management side wasn't so much fun, to be honest, but that had a lot to do with where I worked. I've always admired the design work coming from the Audi Studio, and this concept doesn't disappoint. The consistent success of the Audi products reflects a culture within the company that values great design and engineering! Build an EV version of this concept and I'll buy it!

    • Hehe the "management side wasn´t so much fun", I hear you, I´ve worked with a few designers that became head of design in studios or created their own companies and all of them say one thing "when you are at the top you design less and less, there is a lot of more in the business side that you have to deal with so you end up giving the designing part to somebody else".

    • Curious Cat Absolutely true! There is also the political aspect that becomes more important, and where you have people you will always have personnel issues that crop up. The subject matter, auto design, always remained fun and challenging.

    • Joshua Lofton Back when I was in high school, I took college prep courses, most of which I never used again, but it made me a good candidate. There are several college programs that specialize in auto design, but I didn’t know about them at the time. I studied industrial design which is the general field of study which includes auto design. It was a lot of work. There wasn’t much time for partying, and we were told not to play sports because that would take too much time away from your assignments. In truth most dropped out. You really should have some artistic ability to enter the field, and lots of the freshmen did not. The program was for 4-5 years depending on how many credits you wanted to take on per semester, and how anxious you are to start work! The auto companies are always looking for the next hot designer, but they don’t look at every school. Unlike my path, I would recommend going to one that teaches auto design and has several good students in the program. The competition is good and they can learn from each other. That’s actually what happens when a designer joins a team. They feed off each other and they all improve. Hopefully I’ve answered your questions!

  • You really run the gamut of visual and physical creativity here. Conception of the idea can be inspired by anything natural or man-made. The sketch involves traditional 2D art skills combined with design techniques. The model is built in 3D space, then is labored into existence in traditional 3D modeling, which I'm sure uses modern techniques. Then it's produced by expensive machinery and filled I assumed filled with handmade components. A lot of melding of worlds going on throughout. Most fields have similar pipelines but I'm always grateful to see it in practice.

  • In an ever increasing battle for each manufacturer to make their cars look more agressive than their competitors, the front grill and brake cooling ducts will soon take over the whole car. This is a good demonstration on how to lose any individuality you once had as a manufacturer. The original Quattro is way better looking (and totally unique) in my opinion than this which is nothing more than a generic sports coupe aimed directly at the American muscle car market.

  • This brings me memories I used to make Chavant hardstyling clay in Slough near the airport of Heathrow. It was smelly affair firstly melting parafin wax and jap wax then filling it with redoil boiling to correct temperature cooking the mixture for 6 and half hours so just before adding zinc oxide the Portuguese resin is added once the zinc oxide reaction finishes it was poured into 25kg metal moulds to cool over night . The following mourning 72kg of dry grease resin mixture is tossed into a industrial dough making machine and mixed for an hour , 120kg of yellow sulphur powder seived is tossed into the dough machine and mixed thoroughly for another half hour and the very last 15 minutes a brown clay of 0.3kg is added so nearly 200kg of clay is transferred to a barrow to a bread extrusion and extruded cut to length and packed in cardboard boxes into 25kg net weight of clay all done by hand . Those were the days smelly, sweaty job and the eggy smell coming of sulphur powder it was a crappy job to do .

You can force yourself to do it and save yourself a lot of money and stress. Once you get good at it, nobody is going to ask which school you went to. The design speaks for itself. Some people out of design schools are still bad at designing so attending a design school is not a guarantee of success.

    • See what u can do is learn photoshop get ur self a graphic tablet to draw on and make videos of u modifying cars . Some have started doing it now . Make a video where u take a car discuss what u feel is wrong with its design and how would u fix it . Also have a consistent design philosophy while doing so . Then modify those cars using photoshop . There’s a KZhead channel sketch monkey he does this . This is a great way to get exposure as well as improve ur self . If ur lucky u can use this to show ur experience because people want quantity in terms of proof that you’ve done something instead of stories of ur passion and few shoddy sketches . Do this and worst case scenario you will have an audience who will help build a decent KZhead channel which u can in few years from earn some money .

    • @@FormTrends Also depends how deep the pipeline is. Really top secrete cars/products can be worked on at least 3-4 years in advance. Products for example, apple has iphones on the table that are 3 years ahead, and they're currently working on the phones that will be released in 2023. Same thing applies to cars, sometimes.
