  • Could you imagine back in the day when they didn't have all the fancy electronics? Guys on the bow with ropes and knots taking depth readings?

  • I live on a narrow boat on the UK canals. I did a flank on a river turn once just for kiks. Didn't need to. Actually works. I even made those hissing sounds your throttles make. Ha Ha. Great stuff Cap.

  • Well done Capt looks like you've done that a few times, and yes I realize each time there's different circumstances with tide, depth etc but great skills

  • On a pucker level of 1 to 10, I was at 7 to 8. You were probably 1, strong 1.25 (post radar review) because of your knowledge of the river and what your vessel will give you when asked (demanding may get one in trouble, as I have learned). Absolutely love the audio combined with the vibration of the windows to get a feel of the engines being used to guide you through the narrow channel. Watching this gives a greater understanding of how the inland waterways are used to transport materials and how much moves in just one day.

    • I stay at a “pucker level” 5-6 all the time. I just am good at looking like 0-1 level. 😉👍🏻

  • Great job, after watching alot of your work I am beginning to understand a little about these boats operate. I do have a question again, I used to do alot of boating in Tenn. at Norris Lake and seen when the TVA put a newbie in charge of the release of water, and have heard from the older guys at the docks, that sometimes a new guy would not adhere to old ways and flood the lake with to much water in the spring. My question is this, Have you seen this happen when they change the old guard of the engineers when it comes to the dredging of the river????

    @roynichols4745@roynichols47456 ай бұрын
    • No. Don’t think there’s much freedom of expression with dredge fellas.

  • captain think your knowledge and skill have to be shared in some form or the other you ever think about ways that you may incorporate your knowledge and pass it on to others in a way that would benefit you as well flanking to me seems like an art which I'm sure can only be learn by during with some understanding of the river

    @andrewwingfield8290@andrewwingfield82906 ай бұрын
    • I think that by producing these videos, Kyle is passing along as much knowledge as possible, without actually being right there in the wheelhouse with him. One thing is obvious, you need to be on the river to be able to learn this trade. There are just so many varying conditions, and there is no way to learn about them except for experience.

      @straybullitt@straybullitt6 ай бұрын
    • No way to learn it better than doing it. Young pilots don’t learn much if any sitting on settee, and just watching. That’s where shitty teachers have them. This is a trade that the only way to learn is to do it. Obviously with someone skilled watching over, and giving instruction. I hate wheelmen that try and teach by making someone watch. Shittiest of humans, in my opinion. This knowledge is borrowed and passed. It isn’t mine. 👍🏻

  • Talk about slow motion, I fell asleep halfway through this due to the motors droning, and they got woke up by the throttle whoosh! 👏🏽 👍🏼☺ Kind of wild watching you steer that huge mass just using the throttles, what an education! 👏🏽 👍🏼☺
