I'm impressed at how clean the engine room is
It has been many years since I last worked on towboats - and watching this video sure brings back the memories. Although the boat/s that I was on back then were very nice, this one is top-shelf!
Thankyou kind of you to share enjoyed
Thank you captain. I worked for TECO Barge Line/United Barge Line for 25 years. I really miss the work and the people. Thanks for the video.
Awesome looking boat, i worked in the late 70s thru early 80s on 3 different boats, none came even close to being this modern. Really liked the tour, yall stay safe out there
Thanks for the tour.
I need to get onto one of these boats I work for Marquette as well
Really liked the video that was a very nice boat good Crew
Thank you for watching and commenting. Hopefully get to make more soon.
I worked for COASTAL TOWING , HOUSTON ,TX for about 8 yrs as a chief engineer. I had to leave the company because my wife got transferred to Alaska. We pushed HOT OIL . Such as asphalt and 6 oil. Barges were heated and product had to be delivered at the prescribed temperature. Crew was chief mate, engineer, 2 deck hands , 2 tankermen , one relief captain and a captain and last but not least.....the most important member THE COOK. Our shift consisted of 6 hours on and 6 hours off twice daily. Front shift was 6 am till noon then 6 pm till midnight. Back watch was opposite. When I first started. We worked 30 days on and 30 days off. You were paid 1/ 2 off your salary on and the other 1/2 when you were off. Engines were 16 cylinder EMD and gensets were Detroit deisal. About 2 yrs into my tenure we switch to 30 days on and 15 off. I seemed to like it better. I'm to old now but I loved the River Life. Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas. Seen em all. Captive Tow. Meaning we kept our 4 jumbo barges. 54 X 300 feet. W Boilers. Hope this explains a little to people. BTW I went on in my career as an INDUSTRIAL HVAC/R TECHNITION. BOILERS,CHILLERS,AND DIGITAL CONTROLS.
I always remember being on the Tennessee river and the sound of those horns was music to my ears, im only 19 and seriously thinking about getting into this line of work im just trying to figure out what it consists of, not that i feel like its too much work i just don't want to get all set up and end up not liking it, i always hear the talk about how rough it is but it definitely seems like an interesting job.
I’m 14 I’ve spent most of my life on the river with my dad and love them
Pretty cool video, this video came up because my friend put a towboat video out, "Saucy the tow boat chef" Cool tour.
Love your videos I'm a marquette fleet deckhand I watched these videos to decide on this career path just fyi thank you sooo much for this
Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Line boats are the way, my friend. I wouldn't trade this life for anything.
@@CMDR.Gonzo.von.Richthofen what is a line boat?
@@IntensePeppers line boats are the big live aboard boats that push barges up and down the rivers.
I'm lucky to ride the American Beauty-nicest boat I've ever been on (although we work hard to keep her that way). I'm impressed though! Yours is a beautiful vessel, Skipper.
Wow compared to the boat I worked on that was amazing much nicer than what I was on
👍👍Thanks...you got me on board 👍👍
Come on ! Let's eat!
@@IslandGirlandHerCaptain great channel...I've been over at Marktwained for a few yrs now and hoping for more content like his. 👍
Very nice! Love the kitchen!💖 And the laundry room isn’t in the engine room!
Guess that's one way to entice you to come back ha ha ha we miss you out here
It sure makes it tempting! I do miss it!
Talk about ship shape! I have spent many vacations at Hannibal MO and wondered what was like on those boats. The Wild Bill Cody museum has the last working wooden hull towboat on display, what a difference.
Nice thank you
Very nice!
This seems really nice!!(I think my mom, Raychel might be the crew manager for this boat but I don’t know. )
She is an awesome lady!
Nice video. I'm now a subscriber.
Beautiful boat. I know a family named Marquette.
very nice all the comforts of home. need ti to be nice to keep good help being away from home for 30 days.
Home sweet home...
Wow wayy nicer than any boat I rode on.
I was first mate on the MV Steve Colby.
Man, it has all the conveniences... Your room is nicer, and bigger than most hotel rooms here in the Philippines... The camera shy lady in the galley, does she cook meals for you folks?? Thanks for the video...
Yes this boat is top. The room is bigger than half my house in Phil. Ha ha. Yes she is the chef onboard. Truly a great one. I was laughing so hard when I went through because I had tried to film before and she gave me a good chewing out so I had to erase the old version ha ha
That was my very first boat!
That's one nice boat.
that there is a clean machine
Do deck hands get a private room and shower as well? I didn’t know if they had to share a room
I'm up on Marine Traffic & take photos of towboats as they go by Lock & Dam #25 [Winfield,Mo]
Business should be picking up soon!
@@IslandGirlandHerCaptain Their still replaceing the gates on both sides of the locks still. But I am looking forward to seeing you guys steam past us here
Beautiful. How long are you on the boat at a time?
Marquette is a 28 on 14 off company, but some guys ride longer
This particular vessel is immaculately clean and I was particularly impressed with the galley. I've been cooking professionally for thirty years and am considering a career move. How often do outfits such as yours hire cooks?
Marquette transportation.com they are hiring and they are such a big company now they hiring every so often.
This is unreal compared to the towboats I used to work on.
Me too I am not so excited about being on the conventional boats.
How you like Marquette? So it is : 2 deckhands Leadman, Mate Cook, 2 engineers and the Pilot and Captain ... 9 crew total ? Thanks.
All correct except one engineer. :) Plus we have 3 deckhands. Total of 9 crew. Marquette is top notch. Been here on and off for 21 years. Great people to work for for sure.
@@IslandGirlandHerCaptain Hey thanks for the reply/info. 1 more thing, are there any talks of automation changing the tow boat industry? Thanks again !
Who needs the Atchafalaya....That's a Cadillac that floats.
Damn! that's nicer than my house!
I guess I was wrong I though they would be old and run down this is nicer than my house
Shower Big Enough for the Whole CREW.... STAY TUNED for those X RATED VIDEOS.
ha ha just awful
called a tug boat
this is insane compared to the centra boats i work on 1200 hp boats. our laundry room is in our engine room and gym is our back deck
Yes they are top notch boats for sure! Thank you for watching.
Must be nice to work on something like that !
Sometimes yes ha ha Today is a holiday and we are out here so sometimes not so nice
Curious to know who the M/V Jerry Jarrett is named after...
Named after the Head of the Engineering Department here at Marquette. He has been with the company as long as I can remember. Thank you for the interest. :)
@@IslandGirlandHerCaptain Thanks for your response and for the video content. I grew up and lived on the Mississippi for over 30 years, St. Paul/Ft Snelling, then about 12 miles above Mpls, then at Otsego MN, before switching to a bigger body of water!! (Lake Superior) Won't ever forget how awesome it was to be a "river rat" for so long, it will always be a part of my soul. It looks like you are in Paducah, I have been there many times. I have a dream to go from the Headwaters to the Gulf at some point, canoe to Mpls, motorized from there... Thx again.
Can you give me a detailed description of what work life consists of for someone new? I’d greatly appreciate it bro!
I work for Marquette it’s hard work but you move up fast most board work 6 hour shift 2 a day and the upper and lower do two different operations
@@fybdrilltime3166 lol I’m a SDH now but I appreciate it
Only thing I miss is getting off the sob.
How do I get my MMC?
Has changed over the years. Have to work as a laborer so many years to get your sea time. Then go to school to study for your coast guard exams. Then pass your exams. Find someone to train you. Then a designated examiner has to sign off on you being a pilot. After that you send all your paperwork in to recieve your license.
How to get a job, on a ship, what is needed for this?
The engine room surprised me most of the engine rooms I have seen from World War II ships the modern ships they're all cramped with very little room.
I’ve been on massive cruise ships with way less room lol
I worked on an old shitty ACBL towboat.
what jobs do the crew do? thier hours breaks and times to eat ??
10 people per crew. Work 12 hours a day. Everyone has different jobs so be better if I make a video to explain it all.
Какая мощьность судна?

Superclean engine room
Ship named after a friggin wrestling promoter.
id take a vacation on that boat ive had worse cruises!
