    • @@lifewasgiventous1614 I think one of his points was we each need to honestly determine that for ourselves - that we have an inner utility designed to guide us in the proper direction. I think where people run into trouble is when they are not honest with themselves. That can become easier and easier over time until we have chosen dishonestly so often that we can convince ourselves that any action, no matter how horrible, can be justified. And, apparently, it can happen pretty fast, according to the book he mentioned about the German police going to Poland. To say Peterson is well-read is an understatement. He has relied on, over time, his own inner compass to pull out of his readings the things that seem true to him. It can take a lifetime. Until then, just stay out of prison. Johnny law and the system won't hesitate to let you know what they think is true.

    • Yeah and he also esentialy invites you to critique these ideas. He shows what he came up with but if someone else's hypothesis seems better he will consider it. It was nicely visible during the debate he had about political correctness where he started with his take on that but after Stephen Fry spoke Peterson aligned himself with Fry because it looked like his take was just more fitting. I have huge admiration for him because of that. That's leadership, he shows that his approach is one of the correct ones by actively living it out and proving that it works, even though mistakes happen on the way. Best kind of motivation if you ask me.

    • Yeah he really does this. I saw him live in Manchester and during the q and a he just entered a deep thought state and was talking his thoughts out loud. It was so inspired. A magical moment where you realised you were in the presence of a great thinker. Dave Rubin closed the computer, the audience went completely silent - you could hear a pin drop. He started empathising with the theoretical person he was talking about and you could hear the pain in his voice and you could see people in the audience in awe and start crying. And then he finished and there was nothing more to say and he got a massive applause at the end and Dave ended the q and a because you couldn't really follow that.

We’re liberating from earning the money to purchase it, and we’re liberated from the maintaining of it, storing it, insuring it, managing it, keeping it, because we don’t’ have it. :-)

When the world seems like it will tip over in one direction from an overwhelming amount of destructive stupidity and immorality, God declares, "Not so fast," because ultimately, the master will require an account of the stewards left in charge. JP is an indictment against the wisdom of this generation. "He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans. He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them. They meet with darkness in the daytime, And grope at noontime as in the night. But He saves the needy from the sword, From the mouth of the mighty, And from their hand. So the poor have hope, And injustice shuts her mouth." Job 5:12‭-‬16

    • You are all correct, here - your etymology of democracy in demos is correct. But I think what has happened is that Peterson interrupted his flow of thought with the flow of an internal discourse about Socrates negative view of democracy, where he is critiquing/understnanding it on the basis of his own view of the/his 'daemon' - not surprising, given Socrates' idealised Greek view of truth - and the reason 'not to trust or submit to democracy'. It seems a good point that a bad view of the human spirit and a good view of the human spirit are relevant to the virtue of democracy and that the co-existence of both is not a preclusion to pursuing democracy but a guide to achieving the quality of democracy?

If a person is made of more sturdy stuff then what they will do is work backwards to a truth but will realize very quickly they must change whatever they have built up in themselves on that first falsehood.

  • The Urantia Book 132:3.2 Truth cannot be defined with words, only by living. Truth is always more than knowledge. Knowledge pertains to things observed, but truth transcends such purely material levels in that it consorts with wisdom and embraces such imponderables as human experience, even spiritual and living realities. Knowledge originates in science; wisdom, in true philosophy; truth, in the religious experience of spiritual living. Knowledge deals with facts; wisdom, with relationships; truth, with reality values. 132:3.3 Man tends to crystallize science, formulate philosophy, and dogmatize truth because he is mentally lazy in adjusting to the progressive struggles of living, while he is also terribly afraid of the unknown. Natural man is slow to initiate changes in his habits of thinking and in his techniques of living. 132:3.4 Revealed truth, personally discovered truth, is the supreme delight of the human soul; it is the joint creation of the material mind and the indwelling spirit. The eternal salvation of this truth-discerning and beauty-loving soul is assured by that hunger and thirst for goodness which leads this mortal to develop a singleness of purpose to do the Father's will, to find God and to become like him. There is never conflict between true knowledge and truth. There may be conflict between knowledge and human beliefs, beliefs colored with prejudice, distorted by fear, and dominated by the dread of facing new facts of material discovery or spiritual progress. 132:3.5 But truth can never become man's possession without the exercise of faith. This is true because man's thoughts, wisdom, ethics, and ideals will never rise higher than his faith, his sublime hope. And all such true faith is predicated on profound reflection, sincere self-criticism, and uncompromising moral consciousness. Faith is the inspiration of the spiritized creative imagination.

  • Standford prison experiment. People are capable of terrible things and not only do them but will actively support the institutiontional structure despite cognitive dissonance. This is how cliches and dictators work. By the mutual unspoken agreement of the group that what they are doing is right by might. People are socialised by the potential threat of getting in trouble. Which is why the majority of people when that threat is removed will not only break the rules but by pursuing that which could be seen as evil. The fear of doing which the group dictate is and being excluded over rides the moral judgement of the person. That's why the scary thing in the walking dead is not the zombies but how the humans behave towards each other.

  • Many would be an empty vessel without their hatred. No more than an infant being so long disassociated with reality. It also must be said that the American people have not risen to their responsibilities so focused on the meaningless. Without a determined to the core opposition you get what you see today.

    • listen to the feelings in your body - when you go into nature and silence and shut out the noise and various arguments, you start to hear other things - you develop inner knowing and that's where your truth will be found.

  • Of the many JP videos I have watched so far, this is definitely one of my favorite. He talks here about burning parts of yourself that are dead as a vital step in the transformation process to become who you could be. I am right now in that process and it amazes how right he actually is about what he is saying. Being well articulated in your speech is one thing, but to be accurate in the smallest details is insane. I am blown away. Indeed I am finding out how much I actually LIE, about the painful process of letting those parts of yourself go that are not worthy, especially if it's almost your entire being that is pathological. I can very much relate to Dr Peterson. I am 27 and I have almost the same problems as he had when he was my age, like the lies for the sake of winning the argument. I have been trying to get my act together for the last 18 months or so now. It's been only one month however since I am doing it consciously. I have listened to my conscience, observed my thoughts and behaviors and identified all what needs to burn off through writing it all down. It's a LOT. And a LOT of work. And painful too. I realized I have been living a pathological life all this time. Tomorrow is the start of the second month of my transformation (18 April - 17 May). Wish me luck while in a few hours I descend into the underworld to confront the dragons. After observing and watching, it's now time to slay. ;)

  • "Courage in the face of Being" might be a problematic notion to some. I know a few people (mostly the hyper rational and the highly utilitarian) who equate courage with foolishness in some situations. A stereotypical example would be to stand up to a tyrannical new boss soon after you were finally promoted. One from fiction is "a small thief in horror movie discovers a maniac torturing people in one of the houses he's robbing and decides to jump in and fight". "Courage" can be incredibly dangerous, and you never really know in which order you should act yourself and/or call someone more competent. "Courage" can also be incredibly counter-intuitive. One with deep issues who's aware of them might think courage is to deal with them internally "like a man", when psychologists claim that it takes courage to admit you're so damaged you need more information and/or professional help. Of course in its broad form "courage in the face of Being" is generally the readiness to tell the truth and confront what your fear, but it's very easy to get bogged down in particulars and think you'll make it entering on your own.

But, when I listen to Jordan speak, I am reminded I am competent, fortunate and have choices. Life is precious, it will come to a sudden stop one day. Until then, I continue earning my wisdom, appreciating my time with myself looking for others to share with. Thank you Jordan, I look up to you!❤️🇺🇸

  • Dr. Peterson: I know that my God is deeply and pridefully pleased by you and your work . The way you have acknowledged and defended The Logos shows deep respect and discernment of it's (His) power. I recognize this because I have read and believe that in the beginning The Word ( Logos) was with God and The Word was a God (Jesus) and the written and Living Word have omniscience, omnipresence and power beyond mortal comprehension please keep drilling down and sharing your knowledge because millions of followers enjoy and are edified by your message. ...and in your personal and confidential journey(ies) do not forget Job from the Scriptures. No matter how confounding or distressing the circumstances....God will get you through and Love always wins and there is eternity to work it out and bring it to realization...Job was rewarded exponentially for his obedience and faith throughout surreal trials. You Sir are Truly Blessed. ❤️....and I humbly thank you for sharing in order to bless us. May your sword of verbal and written Truth remain unsheathed and recognized as a guiding beacon into enlightenment forevermore.

  • Ive been living on the streets for almost a week now. I was turned awaybat the shelter and asked to come back in 4 days. My succubus of a mother finally (although thankfully too) decided I was not worth the tiny bit of attention she was able to muster, I asked for help from the suicide hotline and ended up in an argument and drugged by an ER Dr. who disgraces the idea that doctors are smart, Ive called 7x for my food stamp interview and just missed the one callback in a week I recieved. Ive faced a lot of truths lately and while Im no where near happy I am stronger than ever and finallylearning to break away from the real shackles of a horrendous past because I have been through much worse than this and Dr. APeterson has been a big part of my moving forward. Shit sucks sometimes, STAY HARD gentlemen!!
