  • Just fantastic to see how much Ickx is steering with the throttle throughout that first lap. Not JUST by some of the great tail out moments, but even just the weight shifts one can see on the car. Just beautiful.

  • Attended this my first UK F1 GP at the tender age of 19.. Lovely memories of Jochen Rindt, who I was lucky enough to see win at the Crystal Palace 6 years earlier. Great posting, thanks

    • Wow Broadclystboy - do I know you ? I was Hawthorne's for this race (19yo, 1st GP). AND I was at North Tower Crescent when the unknown Jochen Rindt beat GP stars to win the F2 race. Small world.

  • Was at Brands last Sunday for the GT weekend. The absence of safety fencing in this era is staggering: photographers standing right beside the track on the exit from Druids!

  • Thank you for this. After I graduated High School in California my brother and I traveled Europe to visit the great racetracks of that time. I visited Brands Hatch a month before this race. We also went to Monte Carlo, Spa, Nurburgring, Monza, Zandvordt, and Lemans This brings back many memories. Thank you again

    • ​@@cultrevolutioneryes it was that or my parents would buy us a car. I can work for a car. Never would've gone to Europe if I'd opted for the car. One of my prize possessions is my photograph of Jack Brahbam's skid marks at Gasometer hairpin Monaco a week after he had his last turn mistake.

  • Rindts 72 was excluded after the race but then reinstated, think the rear wing was a little too high. Brabham ran out of fuel as his mechanic had not reset the fuel flow from warm up of the engine . That mechanic was Ron Dennis , later to shoot to fame as head of McLaren .

    • It is Ron with his arm around Jack but it was Nick Goozee later of Penske who got the fuel wrong as he admitted a long time after

  • I was there, not long out of the Fleet Air Arm. I heard that Brabham's fuel pumps didn't pick up the last few gallons.....

    • ​@@cultrevolutioner But he had only bad luck before that: he would have won Zandvoort '69 (leading by 8 seconds), Montjuic '69 where he had that big shunt when the rear wing broke and would have battled it out for victory at Silverstone '69 with Jackie Stewart if he had not to go to the pits late in the race. Overall he had more bad luck in F1 races in his career and ultimately in practice at Monza when the right front brakeshaft on Fittipaldi's (!) car broke before the Parabolica.

    • This is NOT Murray Walker. He didn't start F1 commentary on the BBC until 1978. The commentator is right here 0:25 and that's NOT Murray.
