Pontoon boats have no business out in the ocean
THANK YOU...!!! And i can't believe that Haulover doesn't enforce that and other crap that i've seen people get away with. They clearly aren't doing their jobs down there as efficiently as they should be.

Hard to look past one if you want to do the Great Loop, I think the flybridge is collapsible.

I was wondering if it was under powered. Reviewing the spec sheet, they just went a bit slow. 340 hp should be fine.

I was delivering on South Miami 2 weeks ago and about out of my hours and needing to do my 34 hour reset. I was Reeeaaally tempted to pay the 40 bucks a night at a secure parking area and bobtail over to Haulover to watch the boats.
I would get annoyed at a drone in my face too, ngl. Shore vids looks way better anyways, and the audio matches up.

Ahoy Wavy! West coast Canada here. Loads of boat stuff, nothing like Haulover. Ok that cruiser is a Ranger Tug. Beautifully finished in and out. Can use a gallon of gas an hour, if set up for it. All have nice cabins and small cooking place. Most run a 250 hp Yamaha Offshore or something, so forget a gal per hour usually. Not built for speed, will hold up to 25 knots. Cutwater is the same company and those are more suited to lead foots. Likely to see a couple of 250s on a Cutwater.

Pontoon captain was actually pretty smart. Instead of battling his way out, he rode the wake of the boat ahead thus giving him relatively flat water. I still wouldn’t take one out, they belong on lakes and rivers, but I do have to hand it to him. Whether intentional or not is a different story😂

To answer the question NO. I would NOT take or even put my family at such a risk in a pontoon boat at Haulover. Quite frankly i can't believe they are even allowed in the first place. That's what i mean by that inlet needs FAR stricter enforcement rules. I've seen so many reckless boaters going through there. Babies sitting in the open bows of boats in peoples arms with no life jackets on. Speeding through no wake zones. And a ton of other reckless behavior. They really need to get it together down there before someone gets seriously injured or even killed.
My neighbor in Ft Laud had a dusky--different model but similar length and size.
That wellcraft had its fenders out so you knew it was a sloppy crew, then the anchor proved it!
What's the best boat for riding these conditions?

Not so much the boat as the ability of the captain but look for a deep V with a good l/b ratio of at least 3:1 or better 4:1 and up which will bridge waves better and not be subject to so much pitch. Twin V cats and similar are a great setup for such inlets and rough conditions as well - watch Haulover / Boca videos and see how well these handle those conditions when in competent hands.

After watching a number of Haulover videos I wonder what the license requirements are for captains of boats up to something like 35 feet and then further up to 50 feet? Many seem to have no clue whatsoever about how to handle a boat in big short waves like in the inlet. Probably not in other conditions either. Even captains on bigger boats in multi $100k leagues seem not to have a clue. Whating from Norway.

Why is it that any time someone is getting the sheet kicked out of them from smashing waves, the captain is laser focused on being COMPLETELY ignorant to the situation?
The guy who lost his anchor didn’t have it secured to the boat. Only a matter of time before he would lose it. Says plenty about his seamanship. He’ll prob find a boat to tie up to when he gets to the sandbar.

You're not destroying a boat you're using it to have a blast. It's like buying a four-wheeler you can baby it or you can beat the dog pee out of it and enjoy yourself and repair it as necessary. Some of you guys need to grow a pair. You pay to play that's the name of the game no matter what you decide to do
