I really like the idea of turning simple steel profiles from the hardware store into beautiful and useful things. It remains to be seen how useful a spokeshave is in everyday life but I do think it looks quite good. It shaves spokes really well, too.
You may notice that there are a few little screws in the initial shot of the video that I didn't end up using. That's because I came up with a simpler solution along the way - but don't worry, the screws are fine.
It was a fun and challenging project. I hope you enjoy the video!

Beautiful craftsmanship. Just as the man is happy after building the tool, the tool also looks happy 😂😂
Thanks! And yes, it’s a very cheerful plane. :)
Ok... I was all WOW about the tool. But that carrot made me giggle. You got great craftsmanship with no power tools, a sweet-looking spokeshave, presented in a very nice video that's all about the work and not about talking? What more can I ask for? Thank you, sir!
Thanks for watching! I‘m glad you like it!
CONGRATULATIONS !!! ... NICE JOB ! THANK YOU !!!
Thanks for watching!
Amazing process
Thanks!
This guy is the proof that you don't need a lot of fancy tools to build your own things. A hacksaw, some files, some homemade tools and off we go 😁 I believe the biggest piece of "technology" I saw in his videos is that hand-powered drillpress, which is very awesome btw
Yes, the drill press is the best thing I bought in the last few years:) thanks for watching!
I would love to find one of those drill presses!
@@jelliottlein i've looked far and wide but only found one that's being displayed in a museum. None for sale. I guess you'd have to be lucky to grab one
@@Kleiner_Lutz Thanks. There are some antiques available on eBay and Etsy, but they're not cheap! I've wondered if there's a way to create one using an egg beater drill which you can still buy new (and I have one from my grandfather too).
A couple of cold chisels in a mix would’ve been handy too
It looks... happy!
I think it is! I feed it well.
Best carrot peeler in the whole drawer .
It looks like a little face saying, "HEY GUYS!!" and then vomiting wood shavings out!! Nicely done! Really cool build!
Haha, yes it does! Thanks!
Excellent et superbe ! L’outil, le design, la finition, l’habileté et la réalisation de la vidéo impeccable, sans hors focus et musique minable. Encore une fois, bravo!
Three months old n I still keep watching it...such a great idea n build!!!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
I like his silly face. The carrot was a nice touch
Thanks!
Completely by hand. Very impressive and a wonderful addition to the tool box.
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you like it!
Very very cute job I like it another video please
Thanks! I have a few more videos :) There’s going to be a new one soon!
Makes a refreshing change to see someone actually using hand tools instead of power tools to cut / grind file etc where a hacksaw and file are easy and cheap to use. . Proper skills, nice one
Thanks! I also find it more calming than watching too much angle grinding…
@@imadethischannel as I was a technology / craft teacher ..teaching skills , metal wood , plastics etc for 37 yrs I get a tad despondent at the over use of unnecessary power tools on “ how to” videos ..nice to see someone cares about craftsmanship 👍
Amazing talent, awesome craftsmanship and tremendous knowledge! Very well done.
Thanks!
No hay palabras para expresar...... Sencillamente espectacular. Es el primer video que veo en este canal y ya tiene uno más con quien compartir tus conocimientos, felicitaciones, felicitaciones, felicitaciones.

Beautiful craftsmanship
Thanks!
Just wow. How elegant. This is easily one of my favorite build videos ever mostly because it's such a joy to witness simple tools wielded so skillfully. Your skills are remarkable and a reminder to everyone what can be achieved without electricity or modern anything. Bravo Sir!
Wow, thanks! I‘m glad you like it!
This is one of th best edited original content I've ever seen.
What a beautiful carrot 🥕 peeler you made there. And it made a perfect shaving. 👍
That drillpress is AMAZING!
Yes, it‘s great!
Quality + You should put these on the market. I’d be your first buyer.👍 Thank you.
What a beautiful tool! I'd use that all the time. Awesome work!
Thanks! I am using it quite a lot, actually.
The outcome of this project looks great! We'll polished, and very well constructed. The video was smartly edited and shot well, just demonstrating good craftsmanship. The thing is though, as amazing as those qualities are, they pale in comparison to the true best part of the video... the continuous demonstration, of the concept of dry fitting everything you create, at every stage! Bravo
Thanks, glad you like it!
Really nice work! I love that it looks like a happy robot kid.
Thanks! It does seem pretty happy:)
Don’t get me wrong I love “my mechanics” but the simplicity in which you do things is the reason why I love this channel just as much because the outcome is great and it gives me confidence to attempt such projects having all these same tools. Great work my friend
Wow, thanks!
Seriously one of the most beautiful custom tool builds I’ve ever seen
Wow, thanks!
Хорошая идея и полезная, особенно для мелких и точных работ, благодарю!
That's fantastic work on so many levels. Well done.
Thanks!
Well filmed gorgeous effort 👏🏻⭐️ Thank you for sharing this spokeshave work with us 🛠⚙️ Stay safe and see you soon
Thanks for watching!
So beauty tool, minimalist and modern design, i love!!!! Congratulations for awesome work.

Superb work and a gorgeous tool!!
Beautiful build. You have great patience and skill.
Thanks!
It's nice to see a new video from you, you are an amazing craftsman
Thanks!

Thanks, glad you like it!
These are some major skills 👍👏👏
Amazing. KZhead need more videos like this. You are great 👍
Thanks!
Very well done. I was trying to figure out what your next steps were going to be and you surprised me a few times. I'm sure it'll make a great addition to your tool collection!
Thanks, it certainly will!
Great job! A truly beautiful tool when finished.
Thanks!
Excelente ideia muito obrigado. Estou muito contente por ter assistido esse vídeo.
That carrotwood would have made a delicious handle. 😋
Yes, I’m planning to use it in all my future tool builds.
Very nicely done. I particularly enjoy how it has a happy face while it... uh... vomits out shavings of wood... or carrots. 😁
Haha, true. It’s a happy little plane.
masterly exclusive craftsmanship, greetings from Cologne, Germany 👍👍👍
Thanks!
very good and beautiful
Nice Job. Well done.
Thank you!
It came out great. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Cool, thanks!
que bonita herramienta fabricaste felicidades, saludos y bendiciones
Awesome! Very inspiring! Really enjoyed that, I will make this for me also!
Thanks! I’m glad you like it and have fun making your own!
Te quedo perfecto!! Buen trabajo 👍
Beautiful job!
Thanks!
Well done again. I love your work!
Wow, thanks! I really enjoy your channel as well!
That's a very nice tool! Very inspiring!
Thanks!
Hmm, a bespoke spoke shave... nice! I'm after a draw knife, already have a spoke shave... store-bought admittedly.
I had to rewind, but I saw that we have the identicle drilpress. Only yours looks like new. And I learnd something about how it's working. I found it a few months ago for Just €20, and I had to buy it. And it's great to see how somebody doesn't need Electronic tools to make something.
Yes, the drill press is great! I bought mine for a similar price. It needed a bit of cleaning and the chucks were broken. I will post a video soon about the restoration process!
This was an impressive build - well done! Aesthetically it's a very pleasing tool, and looks like it takes nice shavings. I'd wondered about the adjustability but works great with the plane hammer for fine adjustment. The carrot was funny - nice accidental pareidolia. Your build videos are highly enjoyable to watch.
хер был-бы лучше
Really amazing work, dude! It looks beautiful! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! Stay safe with your family as well!
It looks like a a smiley face 😅 Well done guy!😉🙂
Excelente, cuando la persona sabe su trabajo; no tiene problema para hacer su trabajo👍.....
I thought I was hallucinating and saw a carrot getting shaved…I guess I was hungry. Great job creating a tool that can be made with common scraps! Very creative.😊
Thanks!
Ohh that is a thing of beauty.
Wow, this turned out fantastic! Your hand tool skills are really impressive. I like your fresh approach to design, I have never seen a spokeshave made like this. Honestly, the only thing that I don't like as much is the choice of screws. On the other hand, they make the spokeshave look like a happy robot spitting out shavings 😄 Hope you get a lot more subscribers soon, your work deserves it!
Thanks, I hope so too :)
Man you have the sharpest saws ever! 3 pushes and you're through 😂 Good video man.
Thanks!
Really simple and basic way of making a spoke shave but still very quality. I also really like the shape and styling of the spoke shave simple but still very modern
Thanks, I’m glad you like it.
Thank you so much for the best video.
Thanks for watching!
Hey thanks for the amazing video! The spokeshave is beautiful. I imagine working in a way that allows you to film makes it even harder. Thanks for sharing. If you don't mind I'd like to make my own, or at least try.😄
Hey, thanks for watching! I‘m glad you like the video. And yes, filming definitely adds a lot of overhead. But it is still fun :) Please, go for it and make your own!
Замечательная работа )
Thanks!
im so sorry that im to jealous with your tools..full respect from me..salute to you..👍👍👍👍👍
That is the cutes face I’ve ever seen on a spokeshave!
Beautiful 👌🏻 Things I love about it: it’s handmade! it’s cool. n you didn’t shave your aram with it! 🤓
Question: How satisfying is a silent drill? Clever design and very nice result. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Wow.. Amazing job and great video mate 💪👍🙏
Thanks!
Absolutely superb!!
Thanks!
Excellent!
Just really good. Parabéns!!
Thanks!
Very nicely crafted Sir! I am jealous to be honest.
Thanks!
Excellent!👏👏👏
Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Nice project and a cool way to use offcuts from other projects, plus it looks like a robot that vomits shavings!
oh look, it smiles as it vomits 😂😂😂
Yes, it stays positive at all times.
An exceptional job! Absolutely to be replicated!
Thanks!
Nice job👍👍
wished I could use a hack saw that fast !
Your spokeshave looks very happy! :D
I think it is :)
Very, very cool, and great to sere a video from you again! Comment on the build. How well does the chip breaker part work? The shape of the chip breaker on a plane is extremely important and I wondered if you would see any difference in effectiveness if it was rounded over instead of angled (12:48)?
Hey, glad you like it! I don’t have strong opinions about chip breakers. I understand that a 100 degree angle from the back of the blade is common in commercially available planes and I have good experiences with it. I’m not sure whether the angled vs rounded aspect is so important because the shavings meet the chip breaker close to the plane of the blade where they are broken and deflected, if that makes sense. But I don’t really have a direct comparison. It just seems to work :)
@@imadethischannel I have no idea if a rounded makes a difference, I was just wondering. After watching the English Woodworker's videos about setting up and preparing a plane I went over my chip breakers. I had previously flattened them for proper contact, but following his videos I optimised them and it made quite a difference.
great idea and job!!!
Thanks!
amazing idea really enjoying for watching
Thanks!
Superb job well done
Thanks!
Very nice design!
Thanks!
So beautiful ❤
Thanks!
Magnificent
Хорошая работа, в результате красивый инструмент. Но в некоторых местах было страшно - например при работе рубанком с установленными металлическими частями) Результат отличный, хотя эргономически и непривычный)
Thanks! I was very careful with the plane :)
great job! thanks for share!!!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice!
Great work. Where did you buy your file ?
Thanks! It’s nothing special. I sometimes buy files at flea markets or my local hardware store.
Very interesting!
Excellent.i like that

Excelent and enjoying the time...
