A video about how an old carving wheel can be made from a carpentry tool - a drawknife. Today it is not a very popular tool, but very convenient and indispensable in the workshop. As always, I tried to show the manufacturing process in as much detail as possible so that I could repeat. This work was inspired by the video from John Heisz channel - I Build It. Happy viewing, I will be glad to your comments!

Thumbs up if anyone else thought he forgot the metal rings! Nicely done by the way
yep...
Nope, at 13:12 you can see the tape (along blade) bulge from the rings before handles are fabricated.
Yep i was so relieved when he peeled the tape back :)
Thank you! :)
I thought he had forgot them until I seen the tape bulged up right at the last... he done a damn good job...
The silence of this video made me feel like I was actually going to the shop at night after the kids goto bed for some me time. Amazing video and great work. Keep it up! No talking just working and making something beautiful! Thank you!!
Not just a nice project showing great workmanship. But also excellent camera work and editing. It is among the best videos about craftmanship. Thank you.
Thank you very much!
You are a real craftsman. Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much too!
Great video. Great job. Great craftsmanship. And as a bonus, I really love this kind of KZhead content. No background music, and best of all, not a 30 minute video, where 90% of the video is spent on talking a whole lot of smack. Pleasant to watch, and right to the point 👍👌
Thank you very much!!!
I learned 2 techniques from this video. The transferring of the design from paper to the metal using spray paint and the wood guide during the sharpening of the blade. I don't know about the trees in your country but there are people in my country who prefer using tree roots to make knife handles. The roots are tougher than the trunk or the stems according to them. Very nice video Sir.
Thank you so much! I also learned new things from your comment: what can I do with a pen from the root of a tree
Evgeniy Budilov
Aha!! I already felt bad for you to take apart your project, when you surprised me with the two metal rings, hiding under the blue tape.. That’s a great, high quality video and professionalism!! Thank you for not adding music during the work. And the victory music at the end was right on the button!! God bless you for your talent and many more years and successful projects.
Thank you very much! 🙏🙏🙏
I thought maybe he had cut the rings and was going to crimp them. I also like the bari Sax in the music!
Watching this was so peaceful; it was as if I was transported back in time twenty years to when my father was alive and active out in his shop. He would create tools, knives and gun/pistol grips (as well as some metal art pieces such as his balancing cowboy). Miss that man.... Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you too, for watching my wine and commenting!
I'm a woodcrafter, and that draw knife, would be loved, by anyone, like myself. Wonderful craftsmanship!
Thank you very much!

Your idea to bend iron from bottom of the handle is just amazing
Thank! But it was not me who invented it, this is the old way
@@budilov oh! But i saw tons of woodworking videos on KZhead but they never adopted this great idea. Btw i am a wooden miniature and model artist.
Beautiful work, the drawknife is stunning! Anyone would be proud to have this knife in their shop, let alone actually built it. Cheers ...
Thanks!
I never thought I'd say, "That's a gorgeous draw knife!" but that's a gorgeous draw knife! Inspiring video! Thank you.
Thank you very much!

Beautiful piece. And your a good dude for paying homage to John Heisz
Thank you!
An impressively professional result. Beautiful in form and function!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful hand made draw knife that would equal any can purchase from tool stores. Very educational and well presented. Thank you for sharing your talents. Anxious to see more from you.
Thank you very much!
Brilliant - I was mesmerised by your relaxed and professional approach to the finest detail. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much too!
Yea, with style and grace.
First class video production across the board; every aspect and step in the process perfectly and beautifully presented; and the focus 100% on the item being crafted, not oneself, which is what 99.5% of all others opt to do. In sum, simply the best. Thus, a new subscriber. Much respect.
Thank you very much!
I was amazed at how wonderful your handiwork and artistic sense are. Thank you for the video.
Thank you too!
Wow, that is some great workmanship, made from nothing. Inspiring!
Thank you very much!
What an amazing video. upcycling something that would normally go to landfill and creating a beautiful tool. What a craftsman. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you so much too!
@@budilov Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. You are a gentleman. What country are you in?
Howard Quinn I live in Russia
@@budilov Hi Evgeniy, I imagined that Evgeniy was a Russian name but did not wish to assume. Russians and Englishmen obviously have much more in common than our Governments might think. I also love woodwork and practical things.

Thanks!
I really well thought out project there, brilliant workmanship and I don’t think that the design could have been improved, I must say that the person working on the camera did a superb job! Almost reminded me of a professional video footage like that seen on television, editing was great with no silly music blaring in the background. I look forward to your next project. Phil from the 🇬🇧
Thank you very much! Greetings from Russia!
Very beautiful. Great workmanship. It deserves your signature. Thank you very much for sharing.

That is amazingly well-done! A drawknife is indeed a darn near indispensable tool once you have the general idea of how to use it. Superb craftsmanship, thank you for sharing it with us!
Thank you very much!
That was quite a show but without your shop tools I will just have to admire yours and thanks for the great presentation~!!
Thank you very much!
Now that is a beautiful, traditional, woodworking tool. Lovely to watch it being made.
Thank you very much!
Great workmanship. And from reclaimed materials! I particularly like the way you burned the blade ends into the handles. Thanks for sharing, inspired.
Thank you too!
Excellent workmanship, surprising what can be made from these old saw blades. Thank you.
Thank you too!
A joy to see the ingenuity and simplicity of this project, and yes it is an undervalued tool-but through demonstrations such as this, and the increasing attention interest in unpowered hand tools, the draw knife will make a comeback of sorts. This is being seen with hand planes, bit braces, hand axes, mallets, etc. Thank you for this clever and inspirational video!
Thank you very much too!
That is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Great job looks very well done. I just love seeing people like yourself making tools like this. I don’t care what one makes but craftsmanship is always interesting to me and I also believe we need to try to pass this type of information and skill to any of the younger generations before they are completely reliant on computer controller machinery.
Thank you very much!

The gleam of the metal and the shine of the wood.... gorgeous!

Very well done Sir. I thought for a moment you forgot the rings after attaching the handles.
Thank you!
Great video. Beautiful draw knife. Thank you!
Thank you very much!
What an awesome project!! I love the way you did the handles. I have never seen where the manufacture plight the tang like you did and just genius burning them into the wood. Can't wait for another project.
Thank you very much!
Your attention to detail and overall craftsmanship is first rate! Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. Very inspiring!

Beautiful and inspiring, thanks for the wonderful photography
Thank you too!
That was great and very satisfying to watch. Well done!
Thank you very much!
Just my opinion, but I would've taken a slice of the same wood I made the handles with to fill in the piece missing on the handles just to make it match. You are an exceptional craftsmen sir.
Thank you very much! I wanted the seam to stand out
Very nice work. I truly like the way you planed out the handle attachments as well as the entire project. Job well done.
Thank you very much!
Belo serviço! Saudações do Brasil! Agora sou novo inscrito!
Muito obrigado! Saudações da Rússia!
Nice job! Old saw blades are great for draw knives and cabinet scrapers, I made my draw knives 6 or 7 years ago and they are still going strong but not as nicely done as this.
Thank you!
A miter saw blade like that would be a bit thick for a cabinet scraper, wouldn't it? You need a bit of flexibility to scrape well.
@@TedHopp I have a 260mm mitre saw the blades from that ate 2.4mm thick, providing you use good quality blades, they will make good scrapers and handy little draw knives.
Ingenious idea to retain the handles without having to drill and install pins. Love it!
Thank you!
Great craftsmanship. I've never seen a burn-in done this way, fabulous. Thank you for sharing. Florida USA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I was screaming inside: the rings, the rings!!!
)))
@@budilov Me too then I I noticed the bulge under the tape.
@@andreletourneau Same happened with me too!
All the time I thought he is going to forget the stainless rings when he was busy with the wooden handles. But thankfully no.. :D Amazing job! Subscribed!
Thank you very much!))
me too !
Thanks!))
same here.. I was thinking "OK, he is good, but at least he forgot the rings, that proves nobody is perfect.." :-)
Takes me back to when we as pattern makers use to make old files into wood turning tools. But I have to say the production of the video is as impressive as the content!! High five the camera and production crew for perfect story telling with out dialogue 👍
Thank you very much!
Beautiful! My motto is never ever throw out a tool. Even if it has outlived its original usefulness. It can always become a different type of tool. And you showed that very well right here. Thank you!
Thank you very much!
