When the bombs fell it only ended a chapter in human history and began another. One filled with radioactive wastelands and Roman-inspired slavers. This is the world of Fallout. And in honor of Fallout 4, I'm exploring the alternate world of the game franchise.

    • Obviously environment wise it had to be different otherwise why even buy New Vegas, just replay 3. Vegas and the Mojave are much different than the Capital Wasteland. Lorewise it would make sense the Chinese targeted the U.S. capital with more vigor than a pleasure city like Vegas and with House having made preparations it's incredible he managed to save any extent of the city. But what makes New Vegas so incredible and replayable by comparison is that choice is in every facet of the game. If I wanted I could end House right after leaving Good springs or kill of the BOS. I can't take out Sarah Lyons in the very start of meeting her. Nor is siding with Enclave. Style wise, I think Megaton is one of the best settlements since Vault City, and really works well in it's environment. I really like Rivet City and the dilapidated landscape in the Capital.

    • Semiconductors were known (they were known since the early 19th century) but transistors were developed much later than in our timeline (probably as late as 2067) with most computers still being mainframes built from vacuum tubes (Fallout 4 mentions transistors in logs from the early 2020s but this would not explain why most computers created 50 years later are still vacuum tubes-based and not similar to our current computers). This in fact means that the Fallout timeline has diverged from ours as soon as the 1920s.

      @stensoft@stensoft5 жыл бұрын
    • Transistors were invented much later in the history of Fallout's Earth, I believe, not semiconductors. Still, that means-assuming generously that "transistors" doesn't mean any device demonstrating the principle, but rather the point-contact transistor that allowed for the device's integration into most electronics in "our" history-that Fallout's history diverges from our own in 1947, at the very latest, not at some point in the '50s or '60s.

This includes gasoline, diesel, etc. Recently we've been developing types of fuel out food and waste to shorten consumption of fossil fuels and lower pollution, these fuels are known as ethanol, E-85, Flexfuel, bio-diesel, etc. The prediction of "running out of oil" is partially true and fake. It's true we might run out of oil reserves cause no new oil, but oil unlike fuel can be recycled and reused. Now running out of fossil fuels is a different story.

    • In the Fallout universe, China took Russia's place, China was America's direct rival having technology that in some areas surpassed Americas. An example, the stealth boy was actually reverse engineered from captured Chinese stealth suits. China was winning the arms race and America pulled it back with the invention of Power armor. Think of China in real life having an equal if not slightly stronger military than America. The USSR never having been disbanded in Fallout, was more of a soft power, having friendlier relations with America instead.

    • That’s what makes the games effective though. Each one gives you a personal reason to push on and complete the main story. Sadly FO76 doesn’t have an ultimate goal or endgame though. Without NPCs there’s no ability to interact with the world in an effective way or option to develop your character and opinions of the world you inhabit.

  • Someone could truly make an excellent anthology series from this... Every episode in the same world but telling a different story. They could go the mini series route and have 90 minute episodes so each one is its own individual story. Just each explaining a different central plot within the lore. For example, there could be multiple episodes alone focusing on the various experiments done inside vaults.

    • The problem with The Enclave is that they are ok with massive genocide. Contaminating the water would kill off countless innocent people in the process. Then you also see how they are fine with gunning down innocent people in The Wasteland. They aren't much different to Nazis with Jews during WW2. That is an accurate assessment since Nazis also viewed certain people as to being contaminated and not pure. The Enclave wants to eradicate every single being on the planet and begin a new one and even if they pulled that off, it wouldn't be a wonderful world or whatever. It would be a dictatorship and many people would suffer under it. The people would actually do better under The Legion compared to Enclave cause they might actually have a chance to live, lmao. Keep in mind that The Legion are fairly backwards with their beliefs too. NCR have it correct that The World has changed and going back to the ways of the old would cause many more to die. They view The Great War as the end of the old chapter in a book and the start of a new one. Mr. House seems more reasonable compared to The Enclave and his plans were also really good too.
