Agree with most points except for not having 120 hz. That's one of the best and most satisfying new tech and experience on the newer phones
I was going write this till i saw your comment. 100% with you. 120hz is best feature. Also PC monitor with 144hz is decision from 60hz.
seconded, was surprised he said he turned this off yet he focuses on snappiness cause he's a developer. 120hz makes phones feel a lot more snappier than any incremental top tier snapdragon upgrade running at 60hz will
Meh, I don't notice it..
@@shanepatrick641true I agree
Yh, that was bs
I've made the decision to get the s20 over the newer phones because it has more features than the newer phones in some areas. Overall the s20 is still a very competent phone.
agreed
but battery is bad
@@hans-petermaier9000 and the fingerprint scanner is 2x as good just one generation later. Unless you need the SD card slot, the s21 or s21 plus are better buys at very little more money. Longer software support, better cameras, much better design (subjective), brighter screens, etc...
Wow, you’re an idiot. Enjoy.
Don't do it...s20 won't get newer updates and the battery life is bad
"120 hz is just a marketing gimmick" bruh moment
Bro that's exactly what I was thinking 😂
How can a person like him say something like that 😂😂😂😂😂
thank you for giving this much in-depth attention to the base S23. I'm not interested in the Plus or Ultra, but it kinda feels like that's all that ever gets reviewed, whether because it's the top-of-the-top or because that's all Samsung will send out to reviewers.
yes agreed!
Plus is pretty much exactly the same as the regular S23, just with a bigger screen, larger battery and faster charging.
Plus also has UWB like the Ultra
Still got the S20 FE and honestly it's great. I was looking to get a backup phone for traveling and that was the only reason I was thinking about upgrading.
Same here. The s20 fe is a great phone, and it has more than an iPhone 14. More cameras and 120hz.
same
same
Same. But might upgrade to Motorola today lol
I got the fe back in nov 2020 and upgraded to the s23 on release date since I pre-order I recommend it if your finances allow it.
Having a s20 fe, with the sd865 processor, on it's original firmware, is such a blessing for me. It still runs as fast as the day I bought it, after a screen and battery replacement. I can confidently say, I don't see any phones that will tempt me to upgrade for at least another 2 years
Same
Mine is still running on original battery and it still holds up, though I'm not light user. That phone was a Samsung's mistake that they're not going to make anytime soon.
How about the green line problem?
@@raynantemagsino9530 He mentioned "screen replacement" so he probably has none since its replaced
They took away people's choice when they removed the SD card slot and that was only to charge more for bigger rom space on the phone. Yes the SD card is slower then system rom, but they should have left that choice to the consumer.
right ? i dont need superfast memory if its only pictures and videos
It was a lousy excuse to give to people. The problem was consumers didn't voice their concerns. Remember when they removed the SD card slot in the Note 5. The following year they put back the SD card slot. It's sad how people just accepted the changes Samsung made from what I can recall from the top of my head. Their midrange and budget phones still have SD card slots.
This was absolutely an amazing video! Especially for me because I have an S20 and I’ve been debating on upgrading instead of fixing my motherboard’s sim card reader. I thought I would’ve liked the slightly smaller screen. Thank you for such an amazingly well produced video by quality picture, sound, and information! 🎉❤
s20+ still very perfectly usable in 2023. dont really want to give up the SD card expandable storage and i dislike the boxy design in recent iterations....
Honestly your bit about being thankful for not having a SD card slot was not a smart segment. SD cards that are fast enough for recording 4K footage are not expensive or hard to come by. It is simply a downgrade not to have a SD card slot. Paying 40 euros for 256 gigs on 4K capable SD card vs paying hundreds of euros more for the same extra capacity of internal space is not something to be thankful for.
I went from a S9+ 2018 to a S23 Ultra. Drastic upgrade. Probably won't upgrade for at least another 4 yrs. And anytime a reviewer compares a Android to iPhone they lose my attention immediately. If I wanted a iPhone, I'd invest in one. Love my S23 Ultra though........
You missed out on the s20
Great to see you back with a video review! You’ve been too long away! Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the new Samsung phone.
yes! back with a new video
Thanks for this video. You just answered a question that's been bugging me for a few days.
Finally upgrading to the S23 from my S7 after 6 years (and it was old when I got it), only because many of my apps have stopped, or will stop soon, supporting my operating system... Thanks for the informative S23 review, helped my decide!
Great video!!! bravo both for the effort and the detailed review. I'll hang on to my S20 for at least another year, still an overall great phone despite mediocre battery life.
agreed battery life was the main issue I had. s20 is still Gr8
I had the S10 for 3 years and a half. I absolutely loved it. It has soooo many features and it felt to new and slim. Only reson I bought a new phone was bc it froze 10 times a day, the screen had black blobs and battery life was horrible. I bought an S23 a week and a half ago and it is great but I still need to fall in love with it. It has less features (no headphone jack, no heartrate sensor) but I hope to enjoy it for years coming. Still very happy tho, I'm staying an S-line user
Nice
@@hockeyman1299 yeah. No headphone jack and also no bixby button. You can use usb-c dongles tho
How's ur experience currently my s10 is like 4 and half years and it's starting to act up now
@@nischalb5479 Still the same, the S10 was AMAZING when I got it and the S23 was good when I got it. Right now I enjoy using the S23, it is a really good phone, no issues. I miss the 3 beforementioned features tho, but that's the only downside. S23 is a great upgrade!
Gonna wait for the S24 lineup as my S9, S9+, and Note 9 are still fantastic. Thanks for the video....Cheers!
Did you get an s24 yet?
Great comparison!! I just miss the screen on time on S20, baterry life for me it's very important. Thank you.
it's battery on the 23
I have to disagree with the Micro SD card take. As someone that uses Galaxy A52s and only has USB 2.0 support. It seriously sucks to have transfer anything pics/vids to a computer cause it can take several hours that even that the micro SD card itself is way faster. Also biggest reason is storage. 256 is good but it means I need to transfer all stuff to a computer every 6 months or so cause that's how fast my storage gets used up. I also prefer to keep my pics/vids on device cause I usually edit them or need to send it to people so have direct access to it is needed. So the Micro SD card is mainly used as secondary storage while the internal is primary. Also cloud services like Google Photos have limits. Back when google photos was unlimited I was a genuinely good solution and lower quality wasn't a big deal but now says it's quite hard to survive off 15gb of storage while also hoping you fill it up cause then your Gmail account just gets locked cause it can't receive messages because the storage is full for some reason. So the excuse of "Have another directory being annoying" is quite pathetic as thst's literally a feature of the phone. If you don't want your pictures going there just don't use it or don't add a microSD. Leave it empty. Cause already internal storage options are expensive enough to get a higher tier while Micro SD were the perfect cheap alternative
Companies today hate their customers
@@consciousgentile5141 Then stop buying the brand 😂
I own a Galaxy S20 (with the Exynos 990, sadly) and I'm looking for an upgrade to the S23... And then YT recommended your video. Thank u. 👏🏼
Yeah I just got the S20 plus and I love It just updated to android 13 which has so many nice options. I bought it renewed off amazon Very pleased
Update on battery life ?
@acyace9665 not bad actually
I'm still actually rocking my S10+
Have the S10 lite for almost 4 years. Great phone.
Saving money!
S10 lite makes current phones seem like bad investments
Well, I switched to S23 from my old S20FE 5G, and I can say it is a huge upgrade, not only the speed but also the battery life, plus the brightness of the screen etc
yes and camera
800$ plus upgrade?
My main issue with my s20 fe is that, even in bright enviornments, it doesn't get nearly as bright enough outdoors. I love everything else about it though
FE sucks compared to the regular S205G
The FE cannot be compared to the original version.
Watching thos video as i just ordere an s23+ I have been using s20 fe since November 2020 and its been the best phone I've ever had yet. Hopefully the new one will outdo it!
Hey great job on the video! Really enjoyed it and can meet some good points
thank you!
damn you're good at your job dude, this is the most thorough phone review I've ever seen. Keep it up man!
thank you so much
Nicely done! 😊
Still using my S10+ since 2019, and it’s fine
Me too bro... it works great still. Riding this baby till the wheels fall off
Ask people in the 'Exynos' region if they would prefer a S20 with an Exynos 990 over a S23 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2!
I have the S20 and I absolutelove it! But one feature I would like to have is adaptive refresh rate display. The battery goes down so fast without it.
x2
S20+ to S22Ultra transition, and it's a noticeable difference... but not a groundbreaking difference. The night shots and photos on the 20+ were fantastic and it was very similar in screen size, where if it weren't for a luxury of funds and availably I wouldn't bother changing.
Why would you compare S20+ with S22Ultra? Either compare the + versions or the ultra versions And why are you talking about the S22 series, this video is about S20 and S23.
@@Konayo_ Because maybe he bought the S22 Ultra?!??!
Note 9 to S22 Ultra a ...giant leap (although I still regard the Note 9 as the best ever phone manufactured by Samsung)
s20 still had the SD card.
One of the best Reviews I ever heard and to understand what you have bought. I bought S20 ultra and 23 ultra I bought my partner s20 and she been happy with that
I own a refurbished "Cosmic Black" s20Plus, I personally think it is a better phone than the S23, or S22...because of all the features it retains. Mine just got an upgrade to Android 13/OneUI 5.1....and I'll have this phone for a few more years I think.
Hey man how do you do that one handed swipe thing, and do you have to enable a setting?
22:25 -- S20 has e-sim. I still use it as a secondary phone with an e-sim. I still have an S22 Ultra that I use as my primary phone and there are really noticeable differences between them, like the cameras, size and having the sPen on the S22 Ultra.
still rolling along with my S20+ and honestly I can't see upgrading at this time, unless it was to the 23 ultra (which is not what this comparison is lol). My battery is holding up well so I feel like it has a good year left in it. We will see what the 24 brings perhaps. Great review...subbed :)
I loved the s20+ .. but I dropped mine and the screen shattered.. so had to get the s23. For me the plus screen size was too big for me so went with s23.
I just upgraded to s23 Ultra while still keeping the S20 Plus, the S20 Plus is a lot more comfortable to hold with one hand but it's outdated (CPU performance, camera performance, storage size, etc)
@@seeeLAH1good choice. S20 went be getting the Android 14. And it's value drops, incase you wanted to trade it.
i agree.. my Note9 broke down last year so I bought a second-hand S20 snapdragon edition. its great so far and I dont see good reasons yet to upgrade. its light and small, 120h display, high res, photos looks great with ultrawide, etc.. updates are cool but i dont think it is necessary. saves me a lot of money too. when S24 comes out, maybe I will consider buying S23U when its less than half the price 😅 phone depreciation is crazy fast.
go with iphone they tend to sell really well in the aftermarket
Detailed video. Thank you so much 😍
Thank you!
Excellent man still have my S20 its mint same issue with screen protector will keep it as its perfect and as a micro SD card which I need, also have a note 10 lite which I carry as its when going out as its older and decent phone but mainly for the S pen, been looking for a video like this because wanted to upgrade the S20 maybe in a year or so thanks
Very good comparison for the two! Thank you! I go for the S20
Great video. You make awesome vids ♥️♥️
I like the s21, s22 design. But i had to upgrade from my s21+ to s23(6.1inch) is because of the battery life and camera.
Bro, i am watching this on s9 plus, it still works like a charm
I was considering upgrading from the S20 FE, so this video was essentially perfect for what I needed
cool review. what are your thoughts on iphone se 2022 vs s23?
I got the s10e and it's been amazing every since
Are you using a screen protector on s23? The old (s9?) fingerprint readers on the back worked well and I always used a good screen protector. My s20 fingerprint reader would not work reliably with a glass screen protector so i dont use one but my screen has numerous cracks.
I like your chilled vibe, you’re not trying too hard to impress/entertain, subbed man
Thank you!
I was upgrading earlier this year, and I really had my heart set on the S23, but I all most sellers had was the Ultra. Coming from the S8(still a great phone BTW, if only I could root it, SD variant 😮💨) got the regular S22 instead, and it's been really great. The newer SoC makes everything just fly, and the 120hz(hits battery) is totally worth it. It's super fast charges. Cap it at 85%, so I'm fine for now.
I had an S8+,that phone was an absolute champ. Especially with Gcam installed, pictures and everything were incredible even to this day when I look back. 120hz and stereo speakers alone are worthy upgrades though.
I really enjoyed your video 😂❤🎉
Thank you
threw my phone down a year ago and 2 weeks ago my screen got unresponsive in the middle third. Bought the S23+ for more storage and larger battery. And love it. Not the biggest upgrade. So if anyone has a S20 keep it. But Camera and chip are really much better
agreed 100x
Considering upgrading from S20 FE to S23. I've had the FE for 3 years and only problem I have is the battery but other that this phone has been brilliant
Same here bro.Using S20 for 3 years and it's time to upgrade.Feeling sad a little bit though 😢
How to turn off animations as claimed here? Keyboard animate up is the most worth ditching.
Go into about phone in settings click build number 7 times an then go to developer and search for animations
Went from an s20fe to an s23 plus. Battery life is pretty poor on my s20fe compared to the s23 plus but it’s still snappy if not gaming or doing anything that taxes the soc
i’ve the s20fe 5g, is there a huge difference him and the s23 plus ?
@@VekDIapnes I would recommend going through with s20 fe 5g for another year
What do you think about the green line? I want to buy this s20 this year and im worried about the issue i need your advice about this.
Great comparison. Still enjoy my S20 since the cameras are not that important to me. Personally I find OneUI far more flexible than iOS for simple things such as volume and brightness control when using one hand operation +. I get frustrated when I use my wife’s iPhone. Slick device but lack of customization irritates me.
one Hand Operation plus has kept me from moving to pixel plus all the other smart features Samsung keeps putting out!
I briefly had an apple phone for two years. Finally got fed up with iOS and I've come back 😂
Wow…..this is what i call a review…….what a great job thanks
my pleasure ty!
@@JSyntax hope u do a lot of smartphone reviews in the future…
I am still at s10+. Just got my screen replaced because newer ones are 5x expensive (thanks to inflation) and they dont add much value for all that money.
Didnt realize how great of sepcs the s20 had. I went from s10e to s21fe and wish I went s20 instead! Great review! Just subbed!
Thanks for the sub!
I love my s20 5g. I originally switched to it from my s8 in 2020, and though my S8 was a decent phone, i loved the look of the s20 and was drawn to the rainbows on the back lol. I dont regret switching to it but recently my s20 5g charge port has been loose which is the only thing that is getting me to even consider getting a new phone. But if I had the choice with at&t to get another s20 I would 100% do so. If you have a nice working s20 i would say keep it and wait to the next generation. Its a good phone!
I am actually watching this on my s20 right now and waiting for my s23 in the mail, the s20 has been a great phone for all these years, it is definitely time for and upgrade.
Lucky
Good decision. S20 won be getting the Android 14 or one iu 6.
@cobaltss50 which are your thoughts 3 months later? I have just bought a S23 from a S20 exynos. How about the battery?
i have an s20 snapdragon imported from china, for the chipset. it's a great phone. it's only cons are battery life, which is so-so, let's say acceptable for a medium user and that it overheats quite quickly in the sun with data + gps on. this means that when you travel, it's almost unusable and it's gets depleted very quickly. otherwise, it's great. great screen, great haptics, great weight, i love it. will see how s24 is, maybe i'll upgrade.
I got an s9 and im thinking about getting a s23 because I want a phone I wont have to upgrade for at least 4 years.
this man right here droped the marketing mike anout refresh rate 😮😂
Nice review after a long time 🙂
thank you!
was looking to upgrade from s10 to s23 for the longest time but couldn't afford it and went with a54, definitely regret it, no relevancy and newer OS can replace what a real flagship feels like. I genuinely believe the cameras on my s10 were better! should've saved up for the s23 :/
The S23 is really good compared to previous S series phones. I'm using an A73 which is pretty good, but I'm gonna upgrade to the S23+ and stay there for like 4 years at least coz it's that good to me.
@@cyberlexl3136 wish i'd gone with a S23 too. Good for you man, 4 years with a flagship should be pretty easily achievable with no need for upgrades
I am thinking to upgrade from S20+ to S23. I have the Exynos Model sadly so even though it is a plzs Model the Battery is not bad but also not really good. I hope the smaller S23 with far more efficient Snapdragon will be better.
yes it's way better
After a couple of years you can see how the exynos version goes down in term of performance
Im coming from an s21 and waiting for the s24. I actually had gotten the iphone 13 mini but after 2 years and no sign of another mini coming from apple, i missed android too much. Loving this comparison of 3 years of differences. I also disable a lot of animations because they make me nauseated 😂
Helll ya, welcome back to the dark side
S24 and plus are exynos. Unless S24U
Really good content brother.no fancy b roll shots just pure, true and honest words.loved it
thank you for your kind words
Watching on my base S20. I ain't upgrading till like a S25 or if my phone breaks.
I'm currently comparing the S23 and S23 plus. The only reason I like the plus is the screen size but I don't think it's worth a few hundred dollars more for just that. For the first time I'm considering a smaller phone as I have a Tab S8 for longer viewing sessions. So I don't need a huge screen on a phone. Im just not sure I want to deal with the hassle of trying to sell my Pixel 7 Pro and buying a used S23. So I will probably opt for going through Verizon to trade in my pixel as Samsung no longer is accepting the Pixel 7 phones as trade ins on the S23 and plus.
Hi, the S23 plus also has a better batterie and lasts longer on. And it manages better the heat than the S23 for gamers. Those are the only differences.
Also if u buy the S23 base model, u should get the 256Go coz its performances are better than the 128 one; not just in size of memory but also performances 😊
i've got the s20FE for about 2,5 years now, and listen. The battery is good I'm getting 6h of SOT, the cameras are good, and overall this phone isn't lacking whatsoever. But i think i will buy either the Z fold 4 (or 5 when it's cheaper), or the S23 ultra. For me the s23 doesn't have that much differences to upgrade.
Yea i been havibg the s20 FE, all Bs aside phones amazing and theyre going for like 200$ right now. i bought it when it came out around 900$ and i srill highky rexommend it yall getting taxed whixh only purpose i see is maybe a better camera? Idk thinking of upgrading to s23 ultra looks like a nice phone only because i can afford it but idk 😂 the s20 fe can do a lot and ive never had issues .. xfinity dosnt support the s20fe only the s22 and up 🤦♂️ my bro is paying for my phone and i want to pay for my own phone so might have to upgrade for that reason of not id keep my s20 FE and switch to xfinity
I switched to the S 23 from my S 10, it was worth the money!
1440p + 120hz is amazing, just upgraded from the s8 to the ultra s21. I had the s20 but lost it about 2 years ago so was back on the s8 for awhile. The weight of the ultra is kinda crazy tho, rlly wish I still had the s20 but I love the 21 ultras screen (colours are to cool tho on yt)
Im from Havinf just s10+ for 4 years to now have both s10+ and s23 The s10+ just too iconic Tbh cannot be Trade in Must save
Thank you, am keeping my S20 till when the upgrade is worth it.
Great review thanks
Nah man! I had the S10 and upgraded and I wish I never!!! The S10 does everything the newer ones do and looks good too.
I agree with most of points except 120hz refresh rate and micro SD card support. 120hz display is super smooth. You can definitely feel the difference when you go back to 60hz. 120hz makes the phones feel more responsive and scrolling experience is fluid. Since it's adaptive. It only uses 120hz when you interact with it. Rest of the time when there is no interaction it switches back to 60hz. Micro SD support is a good thing to have. You mentioned that recording to SD card and exporting is slow. You can change camera settings to use internal storage. You can use SD card for other files where read and write speed isn't a priority. Its always better to have expandable storage.
excellent comparison 👏 👌
Switched exactly like in the video even the colours, but that wasnt planned 😂,my s 20 protected me from a falling brick but that did a bit of damage 1/3 of the screen dont work anymore, the s 20 is a fantastic phone had it like around 4 years and wanted 5 years but then the brick came so i switched to a s 23 for 600 a pretty nice price for a last year flagship, now i try anything in this phone out
With no sim card in the s20 standby improves significantly so it has to be something related to the modem
i went from the s7 to the flip and its fun
Would it be worth getting the S20 (whether is was new/refurbished/etc) now rather than the S23? I currently have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, but I switched to that from a S10+ (S8 before that). I miss the Android ecosystem and really like the curved shape of the S8/10/20.
I was considering upgrading from my s20 plus to the Pixel 7pro but I'm going to wait for the s24 series to come out and upgrade to the s23 plus.
I think you should upgrade to s22 ultra when 24 series release
S22 ultra has the garbage exynos chip where the s23 series has the snapdragon. The snapdragon is better optimized and has better battery life

I am keeping my s20 plus. Come many time in the shop to get a new galaxy. But dont like the new generation with flat screen. And I have eveything that I need. Work perfly. Fantastique photo, display. My wife has a s21.
How did you get a $400 discount for an S8 with a cracked display? I also still have an full intact S8 lying around and use an S20 5G right now. In the moment there is a €310 Black Friday discount at Samsungs online shop but the trade-in is deactivated. I wonder if I can get a bigger discount, if I wait after BF and trade in both phones. What do you think?
I envy those who are upgrading from like an S6 Edge to the S24 Ultra... the amount tech has changed since then would be staggering, especially if they didnt follow tech at all.
Well, my S20+ recently got the green going down the middle of the screen. I upgraded to the S23+ a couple of days ago. It just wasn't worth spending $350 repairing, and the possibility of the green line coming back.
Currently still own my S20 5G and it's literally the best phones I ever owned. It's awesome. The performance always shocks me even though it's quite old now. Thinking of upgrading to the s23 only because of poor battery life
Debating upgrading as my 20+5g keeps guvhg me moisture message when charging. Getting to be annoying
@@ronygilot5483 Ive got the same model. Its a great feature to have but I would definitely use that as an excuse to upgrade to the s23 or 23+ because honestly it's worth that upgrade
Get the battery changed then, batteries degrade over time because of chemical aging and you people constantly charging to 100% when you plug it in at night.
@@shanepatrick641yeah I might cap my next phone at 85%. That said, doesn't seem much better than having a slightly damaged battery. Lol
@@Greenfrom3 Totally agree. If you limit charging to 85% you are starting out in effect with a 2+ yr old battery. Batteries are consumables, they are all going to degrade over time anyway. Intelligent charging habits (such as not constantly "topping off" the charge and running the charge to 0% etc.) will give you sufficient battery lifetime. Besides which, once you hit 80% or so, the phone slows down to a trickle charge, so you are not "slamming" it to 100%.
Im using s20 5g its really good, battery only is my concern but performance really great
I bought my S9+ 5 years ago, still using it. The phone is working just fine. For me the only way to upgrade when my s9+ is literally not usable
I finally decided to get the S23 Ultra. I had the S20+ and I gotta say, the S23+ feels like a downgrade, mostly. Lower-res screen, no Micro SD port, pointier edges, the cameras are just so intrusive for the feel in the hand. Of course, it has better cameras and a more powerful chip, but at that point I felt like upgrading to the Ultra, as it retains the resolution my previous phone had, and the higher capacity means I miss the Micro SD port less.
why would u upgrade to the s23 + when in 2 weeks the s24+ is coming out
@@toxic-br7te I got a good discount. I bought the 12GB 1TB S23 Ultra for lower than the base S23 Ultra. And looking at the leaks, the S24 Ultra will be pretty much a simple refresh. So I won't be missing out on anything.
@@lirfrank you will be missing ai functions, titanium frame, better display, better cameras, a lot better cpu(30%), a lot brighter screen(50% more),maybe more but it s up to you
@@toxic-br7te ...For about twice the price. Yeah, couldn't care less. Been rockin' the S23 Ultra for over a month now. It's been incredible.
@@lirfrank idk man, you do you
adaptive mode is much better for battery tho, goes on 10hz when ur not doing much, reading and stuff, goes up to 120hz when you need it for gaming or 60hz when ur watching videos. you get what you want when you need it and when you dont it slows as much as possible
you actually convinced me not to buy a new phone. i am planning to upgrade from S20+ to S23 but I think i will pass now. lol. Thank you for this video!
Good!
Thanks for the video, i will wait for the S24!
Coming soon!
