The UN's top court has rejected a request by Nicaragua to order Germany to stop sending weapons and other military aid to Israel. The International Court of Justice in the Hague ruled that legal conditions for making such an order had not been met.

I agree. Feel like it can be dangerous if someone w bad intentions starts flooding the court system so they can’t get much done and can’t take on important cases about real abuses and violations.
why do You think that way? Putting aside which country initiated court activities on this matter, the plea is quite legitimate. Arming Israel for it defending against Hamas - ok. But sending weapons at this point is just giving Israel more means to further commit war crimes (I intentionally didnt call it genocide now), which we all know WILL be commited.
I can’t agree with you because I don’t feel that more expensive weapons cause more deaths. Usually the more expensive they are the more precise they are. It doesn’t mean they can’t be used maliciously, but I don’t see the direct corrosion from more spent being more unneeded deaths. This is what I have learned from watching over 2 years of fighting in Ukraine. Also, since it seems Germany sent dramatically less amount of military aid since the start of this conflict makes the lawsuit seem frivolous to me.

Some people in Nicaragua apparently had a lot of free time in their hands. So they started a lawsuit, just so that they could feel good about themselves.

The ICJ is and will look at the evidence. Thus far it took the assertions of Germany’s defence as basis for this preliminary ruling.
The court is aware of his situation. When does the support of one country for the defense of another country become complicity in crimes that may have been committed? Such a ruling would have global implications for military alliances and bilateral arms treaties.

I think the most important effect is that of some extra sleepless nights, mostly for the responsible German politicians. Germans are more easily afraid than Americans and should because in the worst case it is them you’ll have to pick up the bill. The US is sort of above the law. It is my understanding that the ICJ first will have to complete the court proceedings concerning the accusation that Israel committed genocide by South Africa. If the conclusion is that Israel did commit genocide then Germany might be found complicit in the next step, which is a separate court proceeding (initiated by Nicaragua). Right now the German defense said that Germany only provided non-deadly weapons, or at least mostly. If that is found out not to be true (that Germany delivered deadly weapons), and if Israel is found guilty of genocide, then Germany might be found guilty of assisting Israel in committing genocide. Germany has also been accused to assisting genocide because it stopped funding UNRWA in January 2024, when famine became widespread. So even if Germany did not send deadly weapons, it might still be found guilty of assisting genocide by helping to induce famine. For the entire world it is important that the evidence be presented, both, for the delivery of weapons, and what type of funding was maintained during acute famine. And of course, if anyone will be held accountable or not if sufficient evidence is presented.

The ICC has not the power or means to arrest Putin. That has to be done by states. It issues arrest warrant. States have the legal authority and means to implement the warrant.
This just shows how worthless the ICJ is.

The UN does not recognize Hamas as the governing authority of Palestine.

because Russia with Putin is different than e.g. Iran, it is impossible to estimate how it will react. the escalation situation is much more uncertain

Germany is sending weapons and money to Ukraine for nothing in return. Germany, on the other hand, SELLS weapons to Israel. And even that hardly since the attacks. Consequently, these are two completely different situations.

The ICC is preparing arrest warrants for Hamas leadership too. But Hamas committing war crimes does not mean that Israeli politicians should be immune to prosecution.
Russia has not ratified the ICC. Gaza is not a state, so I suppose ICC has no jurisdiction here too.
Because Putin is innocent. Putin is simply defending his country from NATO aggressors
