720HP 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A - LOUD 9.4L Flamethrower!

Surely one of the coolest cars I've uploaded to the channel, if not the coolest. This Challenger, driven by Beat Gubler, kept surprising me in both speed and soundtrack during the 5 days I got to watch it race. At both events, Jack's Racing Day and the Tabac Classic GP Assen, the car competed at the top of the Colmore YTCC series.
The insane amount of power this naturally aspirated, massive big block 572ci 9.4L makes, more than compensates for the weight of a '70s American muscle car. The event commentator claimed it was running up to 1000 horsepower and after some digging into built N/A 572 Mopar engines I concluded that that claim is definitely possible.
Edit: Thanks to a comment by Beat himself I now have a bit more info on the specs. The 572ci/ 9.4L aliminium block with Indy Cylinder Heads produces 720HP and is linked to a 4-speed Jasper NASCAR transmission. It weighs 1450kg.
Enjoy this compilation of clips I filmed and edited with a massive smile on my face!

  • For more than 40 years the '70 Chally is one of my favorite american cars. Original engine is - as far as I know - a 340 six-pack.

    @andreashellwig9863@andreashellwig98635 ай бұрын
    • Actually, the 340 was an option. You could get any engine from the slant 6 to the 426. From Wiki: The standard engine on the base model was a 225 cu in (3.7 L) Straight-6. The standard engine on the higher trim models was a 318 cu in (5.2 L) V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor. For 1970, the optional engines included the 340 and 383 cu in (5.6 and 6.3 L), as well as the 440 and 426 cu in (7.2 and 7.0 L) V8s, all with a standard 3-speed manual transmission, except for the 290 hp (216.3 kW) 383 cu in. engine, which was available only with the TorqueFlite automatic transmission. A 4-speed manual was optional on all engines except the 225 cu in (3.7 L) Inline-6 and the 2-barrel 383 cu in (6.3 L) V8. But for Trans Am racing (similar to this video), the displacement had to be less than 305 cu in. It's surprising to see this big block taking the corners so well. From Motor Trend Magazine: "Like the musclecar era itself, the SCCA Trans-Am series reached its popularity in 1970. Trans-Am was known for top-name drivers and fender-banging competition. Chevrolet dominated the 1969 season, but Ford and AMC were back for more, and Dodge was in with factory-supported effort as well. This challenger was built by Dan Gurney's All American Racers and driven by Sam Posey. The Mopar Trans-Am cars ran 340 V-8s, destroked to 303 cubic inches to sneak in under the 5.0-liter limit. Horsepower was about 450, with weight around 3 00 pounds. Posey also raced in Formula 1, USAC, Can-Am, the Formula 5000 series, and at Sebring and Le Mans prior to his career as a racing commentator. This photo was taken during the season opener at Laguna Seca, where he finished sixth. The car's best results were a trio of thirds. The Challenger was never the successful Trans-Am racer the Camaro and Mustang were, but that doesn't keep it from being one of the muscle movement's most popular players-then or now." edit: On a side note, one of my favorites was the 1970 Duster w/340 6 barrel.

  • No bullshit.... I watched so many Videos and saw so many live - but this is my absolute favourite Muscle Car I'd say. This sound on headphones is absolutely sick.... Especially, if you have an Amp.

  • In the 80's open class sports sedan racing was huge in Australia & NZ where anything goes and V8 muscle cars rebuilt for dedicated track racing were iconic and still are today but they have to race in the Historic Car racing class dedicated to them & it is for fun and not competive racing as it used to be back then as the cars are too valuable today This Dodge Challenger based in Germany would be right at home over here amongst all our V8's that race and that is what the crowd wants to see and hear!!! Another iconic racing car that comes to mind that matches this Challenger in "wow factor" is based here in Australia and it is a Mercedes 450SLC that raced in the 80's (twin turbo 1,100hp) and now today runs a Chev 6ltr putting down +700hp for track duties and the sound it puts out is also epic. The below YT link to the Merc on track and in the cockpit view as it races & the driver shifting the gears: kzhead.info/sun/eLVwlcOksGqgq3A/bejne.html&ab_channel=BlendLineTV

  • Seeing the OG surviving trans-am cars and re creations such as this really need to be heard in person. Will blur your vision from how loud the exhaust is. I have a clip on my channel i took at lime rock a couple years ago and it doesnt do them justice.
