Blue Origin is in the process of manufacturing and testing various New Glenn hardware with the goal of launching for the first time next year. This next-generation launch vehicle has been under development for over a decade now and features a large design, payload capacity, reusable first stage, and other complex features. All of which have contributed among other reasons, to the extensive development of this hardware.
One particular area of interest for many has been the first stage downrange landing pad. In this case, as we have seen with the Falcon 9, certain missions require a landing platform in the ocean as the first stage doesn’t have enough propellant to return all the way back to land. In Blue Origin’s case, the plan for this process has changed quite a bit over time.
What started as a massive cargo ship meant to be converted into a mobile landing platform, changed to drone ships similar to SpaceX. This being said, following Blue Origin’s theme of keeping a lot of info to themselves, we haven’t heard practically anything on these platforms in a long time. Here I will go more in-depth into Blue Origin’s landing plan, the initial difficulties, progress, and more.

NASA acknowledged that in flying Escalade on New Glen next year they were taking on additional risk. That has got to be the understatement of the year.
Plz explain the additional risk.
Thanks man...😎😎😎
Getting a bit ahead of ourselves, Blue.

I really do hope New Glenn launches in 2024 for Mars. I am skeptical based on past lack of performance and secretive development.
what does mars have to do with anything
Their first scheduled flight is to put 2 satellites in orbit around Mars in 2024. This video described it. @@duckvs.chipanddale585
They haven't done a single flight test yet and you think they will just skip all the milestones and go straight to Mars instead?
@antman8467 New Glenn will just need to get the payload going in the right direction. All of the difficult deep space maneuvers, long-distance communication, capturing into Mars orbit, etc. will be done by the EscaPADE spacecraft itself, which is based on the Rocketlab Photon bus. And Rocketlab has proven their deep space capabilities with CAPSTONE already.
their first test flight is scheduled to be a launch of set of dual spacecraft developed by rocketlab to study mars. @@duckvs.chipanddale585
Are they scaling up production now? I saw a rather small hall, filled with elemental parts and pieces. After 12 years, i must say: they have come far. Will they rent another hall to scale up horting of the parts now?
I love working at Blue.
please tell us why you are so far behind. I truly wish you succes
Watch this comment section get Blue ranters and many SpaceX fans. Can we just be happy that we're getting more launchers?
Still going to have bad payload without a catch tower. Gona need to really dial in the cost of carrying the extra fuel to land and not destroy the legs, then cost and time to refurb. They’re designing something that’s already behind starship.
Having exploded twice, Starship is already behind Starship. Don't be the typical fanboy confusing proposed Starship capability with reality.
Just because SpaceX chooses a certain recovery method doesn't mean that it's the most efficient or the only way that will work. Falcon 9 has legs and doesn't have a "bad payload".
Nice, nice ! I'd shure love to see them practice landing dat ding before they try to fly it.
Umm ok, explain how you land something BEFORE it flies....I'll wait..
Maybe in ten years we'll see it fly
Vaporware until it flies. Bezos is a professional money launderer.

I'm starting to think New Glenn will fly in 14 to 18 months
Times 2 to 3
@@plainText384LoL.Dreamer.
@palinText384 14 to 18 months in what time? Elon time? Crack time? Not real time that's for sure.
Thats unfair! Why does nobody believe its gonna fly ... fly ... to pieces?!
Blue origin better just pray it doesn’t go bad on the first launch, it’ll be another 10 years of building
I mean even if their orbital rocket isn't too sucessfull seems like they have a future as an engine supplier
SpaceX didn't do well on first launch.
@@KiRiTO72987 - yeah, an engine supplier to companies that can't compete with SpaceX - they'll sell loaaaaads!
Almost NO rocket makes it into orbit the first try ! I think this has been achieved only one time by a new company, and only recently. Actually, i should formulate that different. No rocket builder has reached orbit by the first shot. The flying phallus doesnt count as it was never intended to even fully reach space. And still, it is easy to reach space, as is said, but its very much harder to get into orbit. If bezos still hasnt understood this, then he will soon find out the meaning of his companies name.
These SpaceX Fanboys love criticizing Blue. Just let them do their thing.
To land a rocket you have to launch the thing.
Considering that Blue Origin initially sued SpaceX for the barrage landing concept and lost, it demonstrates the difference in mentality at SpaceX for not suing Blue Origin for contracting with LAD Services for a "a nut and bolt copy of their previous SpaceX barges." It nice to see a company that isn't excessively litigious.
BlueOrigin had the patent for landing on a "sea going platform" before SpaceX ever thought of doing it and then SPACEX sued to invalidate that patent. After SpaceX partially won a preliminary hearing, BlueOrigin decided to let SpaceX do their thing and filed a motion to cancel 13 out 15 of the patents claims, instead of presenting counter arguments for why their patent should prevail, which would have dragged out SpaceX's lawsuit. And since SpaceX themselves had sued and argued that you couldn't patent this technology because it had already previously been explored by researchers AND BlueOrigin held the patent, not SpaceX, there's absolutely no way SpaceX could sue BlueOrigin on this issue.
New Glenn had this idea first so...
Is it still a next gen if its been in development for so long?😂
Scaled up production ! A rather small hall filled with elemental parts. After 12 years. WOW !
SpaceX and Tesla can handle just about everything thrown at them, but COMPETITION AND...Legitimate Government Oversight.
What competition? 🤷♂

Its ironic that elon got his idea for a private space company from Bezos &Blue Origin even teased the sea landing idea before Spacex, but now every eloon stan and their mom thinks theyre copying spacex, funny how life works
hmm.. With enough X SpaceX employees, New Glenn could be slightly less capable compared to Falcon heavy lol:) Must be nice to always go sideways on progress while relying on other younger companies creating roadmap to success:)
Pixar is getting a tough fight with Blue origin.
Sue Origin better worry about getting it up first before thinking about landing anything.
I'm not rooting against Blue Origin but lacking major accomplishments and success in 2024 they will lose ALL of their top talent to SpaceX who is hiring like crazy.
It is amazing that Launch Complex 36 has a fully operational water deluge system and exhaust diverter structures in place before the first launch. It is almost like they learned from industry standard practices.
there rocket is a different design, why not just learn about researching you get a better grasp on things
@@M_Lopez_3D_Artist How so, enlighten me, what does the rocket design have to do with not excavating a huge hole in the ground? Please regale me with your superior knowledge! Actually the exhaust is basically very similar. The difference is with the chief “I am smarter than everyone else” person.
its quite simple blur origin has a rocket built by a company that is not innovative at the pace we need, the other company is pushing the limits and beyond of space travel, id rather have mistakes and learn then never have mistakes and learn the hard way, also if u want to talk about mistakes NASA has made immense amount of mistakes even with the shuttle system. @@Mentaculus42

It's hard to support Blue Origin when they act so secretive. Makes me think they are up to something nefarious and that I should just focus on supporting SpaceX, Rocket Lab, and other more open and honest companies.
Well saId.

We all know Bezos can't get it up... why do you think his wife left him?

And as nobody has yet made it to orbit on his first try .... 🌟 The best joke: bezos will soon discover the meaning of his companies name.😰
You're forgetting that Falcon 9 was expendable? It took them a few years for Falcon to successfully land on a Droneship. Don't think that SpaceX did that first try.
Always cartoons, cartoons copied from the SpaceX's reality......😂
The first thing to do is get something into orbit. Then we can talk about landings. So far New Glenn's only real demonstrated skill is in spending money and making video simulations.
