Everybody Wants To Rule The World Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you
[Chorus]
Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on Mother Nature
Everybody wants to rule the world
[Verse 2]
It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the
[Chorus]
Most of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
[Bridge]
There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you
[Chorus]
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world
[Instrumental Interlude]
[Chorus]
I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the-
Say that you'll never, never, never, never need it
One headline, why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world
All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

It was 2000 and my uncle had just bought a new 1992 Crown Victoria. Everytime I hear this song, I'm transported back to watching the city skyline whizz by and the smell of my granny's white diamonds perfume. I love the 80s so much. 90s born, 00s raised.

And we PROGRESS through life. Today is Ash Wednesday and we are asked to pray and fast for Ukraine, but as Jesus wanted, part of that is to pray for the Spirit to come to Putin too. We are specifically told to love and pray for our enemies. So let's for once do what our Saviour taught us. Today is the day. Carpe diem and may God be with us!

  • my boyfriend and i are 19 and 20, we live an hour drive from each other. this drive’s silence is almost always filled with some sort of music. despite our very different music tastes, when this song came on when we were driving back to mine one night, it felt like the world became us and that song. this song stood out like no other song, the feeling unmatchable. i fell in love with my boyfriend all over again; his beautiful eyes that reflected the lights around us, his hands joyfully tapping on the steering wheel, his soothing voice, i am so in love with him. nothing else mattered in that moment, our futures filled with endless possibilities, that fear of the unknown was still there, yet i felt comfortable and content in this very moment in time. i felt that all is going to be will be, life is a journey.

  • Let me sum up the 80’s music this way, I’m a black guy who grew up in that era and I can’t cap, there was some great 80s rock and soft pop songs that I used to rock all the time. Tears for Fears was one of my favorite as well as Journey. I can remember cruising down Crenshaw Blvd in my 240z blasting their songs on the radio. That’s how much I loved 80’s music. Howard Jones, Madonna, Expose, etc…I could go on and on. But i can’t help waxing nostalgic when listening to these classics. I mean just the best cruising music ever. That’s what made driving so fun back then. It didn’t matter where you were going. Just pop in your favorite cassette and enjoy the ride. I’m glad I got to experience it firsthand.

    • I can't relate to the California part of your life, because I've never been there, but as a black man born in 1980 I grew up with this. I was exposed to this sound thanks to my mother's tastes in music, so this feel good music was felt in North Carolina. This group, and many others from the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s get plenty of rotation in the car to this day.

    • @@natechenry bro Tears for Fears literally looks like an emo band. Journey also isn’t overrated, they have amazing songs such as Lights, Separate Ways, and of course Don’t Stop Believing. And nothing is more 80’s than Africa. Tears for Fears just has one song that I’ve known about. And I grew up with all the music being from 60’s blues, to 70-80’s Rock, and to 90’s Hip hop. Nothing 2000’s. Dude this isn’t as 80’s as Journey and Toto, or even Kansas and Boston (which is more so 70’s). My parents were also born in the 70’s and grew up from the late 70’s to the 80-90’s. They also agree and brought me up on Boston, Journey, Kansas, etc. and my pops grew me up on 1990’s Nas, Mobb deep, Common, AZ, DMX, Twista, Public Enemy, etc. So I’m all old school

    • @@WhoDaF0ok1sThatGuy I was born in 1958. In the 80s, Journey seemed like a carryover from the 70s; to my ear they were very much like Kansas and Boston, et al. Tears for Fears had a new sound that was somewhat new-wave but more sophisticated musically. That's how I remember it.
