Sad fact: Drummer Paul Hester who played drums in this song, committed suicide on March 26, 2005 after going through 4 years of ongoing depression. May he rest in peace forever. His dream may be over, but this song won't.

“Don’t Dream It’s Over” is a message of encouragement to someone who is struggling to hold onto hope. The singer in the song is talking to someone they’re deeply connected with, and he’s promising that their bond will survive any challenge. The lyrics describe hardships that can happen in life, but the song insists that we can defeat obstacles by depending on one another. I woke up this morning with this song in my head!! I love it!!🥰😘💞💗

This song always reminds me of a memory in high school. I was sitting in my car in the parking lot after school one day with my very best friend. She was really into heavy metal - a ROCKER CHICK. She quietly listened to this song as it played on the local radio station. She smiled and started singing along and said she liked it. My best friend passed away the summer after we graduated from high school; she was killed by a drunk driver. Anytime I listen to this, I remember that moment we shared on a sunny afternoon. Bendiciones Becky!🙏🙌😘🙌🙌

This song really makes me feel like IT IS 2020, just considering everything we are going through in this nation and globally. It also kind of mirrors my relationship with a certain person who is on my mind a lot and it's really a burdensome, patience-testing relationship, a person who WON'T LET ME IN despite my efforts and patience towards her. I someday hope to win this person over.

I'll post this for Drew. From Tool "10,000 Days" If he happened to be 27, this may mean a lot more. High is the way, but all eyes are upon the ground. You were the light and the way they'll only read about. I only pray, Heaven knows when to lift you out. Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough; You're going home. You're the only one who can hold your head up high, Shake your fists at the gates saying: "I've come home now! Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. It's time now! My time now! Give me my, give me my wings!"

There is freedom within There is freedom without Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup There's a battle ahead Many battles are lost But you'll never see the end of the road While you're traveling with me Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know that they won't win Now I'm towing my car There's a hole in the roof My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof In the paper today Tales of war and of waste But you turn right over to the T.V. page Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win Now I'm walking again To the beat of a drum And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart Only shadows ahead Barely clearing the roof Get to know the feeling of liberation and release Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win... FACTS
Music is such a powerful force. I swear 80’s music takes me back to simpler times, no worries, carefree innocent times. I am instantly transported back to 1988 when I was 16. I miss that time in my life. Anyone else feel that way?
Yes 🥺 if heaven exist, my only wish is to relive it one last time
Me too!! It LITERALLY is the reason I stopped by this song! Such a masterpiece and underrated! Just heard the acoustic version and saw the words finally and I was in the comfort of the 80's again 😁🙏🏽💯
I do
Reminds me of cal poly SLO. Anyone out there remember tortilla flats..
For the same reasons, I miss the seventies. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the 80s;
Don’t give up. No matter what.
RIP Paul Hester, you are the great drummer. You will missed you so much.
👍🏻
The quality of music in the 80s is still unmatched.
i love 80's so much thanks to my Cousin Allan Venturillo may you rest in peace. His the best bro.of 80's because of him new wave becomes alive til now here in Puerto Princesa City,Palawan,Phillipines..

Indeed and at the time it seemed like there was another British group like this coming out every couple of weeks and they all had a great sound! 🎼🎶🎸🎤👌
60s was damn good as well.
Gotta agree with that Jonathan Hill, the variety was unreal back then....80's music had somethin for everybody. I don/'t reckon you could say that now

Live acoustic with no autotune. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.
60s were an amazing time to be alive! That's when it all started!
Lol.. NEVER live in the past
It's just so wonderful. Those times, 80-s, there were real people with pure souls and true human feelings, with beautiful tunes and lyrics. Timeless.
What is it about the 80's ??? In 1991 I was 21 and by the end of 1992 I realised that a very special era had passed - I was already looking back - even then !!!! IMO we've never had another decade like that since then and fear we never will again...
It was definitely a special time. I find myself always thinking about how that it will never be recreated and only exists in memory and yet my heart says otherwise. All things get a return, it's just a matter of how.
I was born in 1990 and I miss the 80' so much
Unfortunatelly all these qualities have disappeared from the recent music
@Tritoneipelicus Right, most of the music today looks like a fake illusion, all is like fast food, and not only in music. But in the end it is always up to us. The choice is always right when it's made with the heart.

Didn't realize back then. How incredible this song is.
Until Now! Those 70,80,90. The best!
It hits a lot different now a days. Much more impactful.
We were spoiled for choice in the 80s.
Yup it sure is..
Sometimes you have to live a little and come back to old jams
This is one of these songs makes you feel good
I was working in NYC. When this song came on I knew it was for me. It was me.
🎉
This song and the whole album got me through one of the hardest times in my life. I remember driving to work with tears streaming down my face, two beautiful children at school and wondering how I’d make it through the day. And the lyrics gave me strength. Love this song, the album and Crowded House. Thank you ❤❤
Aww may God bless you with peace and understanding. Let's hope for a brighter future you! Sending love from Houston Tx ❤
