This is an extremely polarizing list, meaning my #25 could easily be someone else’s #1 and there are going to be tons of disagreements here. Which, that is a good thing to have a list everyone interacts with differently. This list is my personal opinion. Let me know your thoughts/your top-10 or top-25 in the comments! Thanks for watching.
Georgia is my favorite so you predicted exactly what happened. I’m also probably biased about this.
#21 should be Bear Down Arizona. It’s blowing my mind how I’ve heard all of these while playing NCAA through the years and never knew what schools most of them represented. This video brought back a lot of nostalgia. Also, Rocky Top at #1 was an easy choice. GBO.
UT alum and fellow VFL here. Rocky Top isn't actually the fight song for UT. The OFFICIAL fight song is called Down the Field and is played everytime they score. I love Rocky Top, too. It's just not the fight song. It wasn't even released until 1968. However it is the UNOFFICIAL fight song.
It’s loved more by fans so it is the fight song, unofficial or not. At least we are finally back at the top
@@phatfield72 so Rocky Top shouldn't even be on this list (even though it's a great song). Another reason it's a bogus list.

I'm not a Texas A&M fan but I have to give that band respect 👍
Awesome song.
The War Hymn should be in the top 10.
My friends son will be playing football for Texas A&M next year go Aggies
The Aggie War Hymn should be rated higher. Its lyrics were actually written by a cadet while fighting in the trenches during World War I.
The Aggie Marching Band always give a spectacular half time show! Their fight song should be rated in the top 5!
Georgia Tech's Ramblin Wreck is very underrated!
The thumbnail of this video was a cock tease. Ramblin Wreck should definitely be here.
It’s the greatest.
Amazing how they all sound so similar when played consecutively
Most are from the early 20th Century, and owe a lot to John Philip Sousa. One or two had a bit of a jazz vibe, though, which made them stand out a bit.
Except USC's at 23:52. #1 in my book.

Came here after Michigan won the championship. Dad went there so I grew up on their fight song. # 3 is a respectable ranking though it will always be # 1 in my book. Serious errors in not ranking Wisconsin and Notre Dame higher though.
Lmaooo same here! I’m a big LSU fan but I have Michigan’s fight song memorized bc of my dad
I’m randomly stumbling onto this post while actively playing NCAA14, and i’m so glad to see Purdue’s fight song get love. I still remember the dynasty I had with them back in high school that went around 7 seasons. Elijah Sindelar is still a legend for his 7 TD performance against Maryland for me🥲
It was good to put Michigan in the top 5,but should of been number 2 or 1 but rocky top sold you surprised msu was in the top 5 and winsconsin should of, cracked in the 25

Notre dame is one of the best for sure, it’s a classic

As a Michigan fan, I'll definitely admit by bias that the Michigan fight song should be #1. But I'll also say as a Michigan fan that Notre Dame's fight song should be a very close 2nd. Their fight song is amazing.
I would admit you’re wrong tenn better
lol I just left a comment saying the same thing, but I’m a ND fan. I always grew up thinking they had the two best fight songs. Growing up me and my boys would have debates on which school had the best ones and it was always UM and ND. Stanford’s instrumentals is dope too but UM and ND were always on top.
Agreed
I Agree as A ND fan . I don’t know who or how they managed these rankings. MI and ND fight songs are the best I’ve heard
I’m an Ohio State fan, and the first two songs I thought of were ND and UM. My high school in New Jersey had our own lyrics set to ND’s melody. And I could NEVER tell you the lyrics Columbus made up for UM’s melody🤣

Georgia Tech's Ramblin Wreck is iconic...should be higher than 15!!
Even as UGA and UNC fan I agree with you, Ramblin Wreck IS Iconic and it's catchy too.

University of Michigan is nigh-universally accepted as the greatest fight song, because no matter what school you went to, even Ohio State, you say, "Oh, yeah, ours is best, but U of M's is top five."
This brings back memories of the old NCAA football game menus where they played nothing but fight songs. I miss those days
totally. i can hum all of them even if i don't know what school 80 percent of them are
One of my 1st roommates after college was a Michigan State grad. He had the lyrics to the MSU fight song on a sweatshirt and the lyrics were printed upside down so that freshmen could sing them and learn them at games. Brilliant idea.
Rocky top Tennessee
How would the lyrics being printed upside down help people read them?
I went to Michigan and we just learned the lyrics. 😁
At Purdue, we printed the lyrics to the fight song above the urinals in the dorm. Everytime you took a whiz, you had access to the words. Plus, all freshmen were required to live in the dorms...so people got to learn it.
Hail to the victors!
I think that OU’s, Texas’, and Georgia’s are criminally underrated.
OU's is very repetitive and not a full fight song in my opinion. Too simple.

As a Michigander, I am happy to see MSU and U of Ms fight songs at 3 and 4. As a huge Michigan fan, I have U of Ms fight song at 1, but that might be a little biased. However, when your in the the big house and it’s packed with 112000 people all clapping and shaking Pom poms and yelling to the beat, it’s so powerful and really an amazing experience. I can’t imagine what opposing teams feel like when they have to play there.

@@yidiandianpang Agree about OSU's fight song. The lyrics are really lame; 'Hail, hail, the gangs all here"?

John Philip Sousa, the most famous conductor of Military March songs and College Fight Songs in history said that "The Victors" was "one of the nation's finest military marches and the best original college fight song" he had ever heard. But certainly to college sports fans..."The Best" is in the ear of the beholder! Good list and it was great to see my 2 favorites in the Top 4!
The Victor along with USC and UCLA's stand out to me.
The Victors sounds like a funeral dirge. Both of Ohio State's fight songs, "Across The Field" and "Buckeye Battle Cry" are head and shoulders better than Xichigan's limp along song.

As a member of the cornhusker marching band, I would say Hail Varsity is more of our fight song than dear old Nebraska U but they're both great, I enjoy playing them both!
What instrument do you play
Hail Varsity is our official fight song, but shhhhhhh, Dear Old Nebraska U serves much better as our fight song. I wouldn’t put Hail Varsity in the top 9 of this list, even though I personally like it more than DONU. DONU just brings so much more to the table as a fight song imo!
Go piccolos ❤ love you Molly
Hail Varsity is the fight song for the Cornhuskers, but Dear Old Nebraska U is more of a theme for the entire university. Or at least, that’s how I’ve always seen it.
IDK, "HAIL to the team, the Scarrrr -let and Cream!" has better lyrics, and the "Go Huskers!" audience participation is a lot more fun. @@seanward7797
You’ve obviously never been in Kyle Field singing the Aggie War Hymn, and feeling the stadium move when the entire Aggie crowd starts to sway when they get to “Saw varsity’s horns off”.

Hopefully the lyrics will have real meaning again, soon. 2011 was a long time ago, it seems.
And sometimes (I've been there) no one knows which way to go! Sometimes it's so bad that they start to crash into each other!
"Don't worry, commentators- this is completely normal!"
Still love how Georgia’s fight song is “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”, almost as if to say “yeah, we didn’t really love that whole Confederacy thing either” Also, TAMU’s fight song is just “Goodbye, My Coney Island Baby” which is also the melody for the Vasectomy Song from Family Guy, so that’s all I hear when I hear TAMU’s fight song. Also, Texas’ line about it being “Goodbye to A&M will finally make sense again, now that that Texas is moving to the SEC
Tx is set to “I’ve been working on the railroad…”. That’s all I hear.
About TAMU and "Coney Island Baby": this as a whole was chosen as the fight song in 1925, and only a few years passed between when this and the music were first released!
Nebraskas is so iconic I swear

My high school school has always used "On Wisconsin' as it's fight song. Highly underated here. Rock Chalk. 😀
Rocky Top is an absolute banger, but even if it wasn’t- the fact that the second verse alludes to murdering feds makes it #1 by default.😊
Apparently that verse is about my great great grandfather and great grandfather murdering two feds who came to steal their shine. At least that’s what my papaw swears it’s about. My family was always big in the shine business near Cades Cove.

OU is a Yale derivative, unimpressed.
Interesting: "On Wisconsin" was submitted to a 1909 contest to write a fight song for the University of Minnesota. When it was rejected in favor of the Minnesota Rouser, it was subsequently offered to Wisconsin and accepted.
I bet the name had a lot to do with that. Lol.
Both MN and WI belong far above the two AZ schools!!
Having played in bands from Jr High through college (Washington, Bow Down!), I can tell you that most schools that don't have their own songs use Michigan and On Wisconsin. Classic and basic.😊

That's "The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You" that borrows from the railroad. UGA uses the tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Having been born and raised in Hollywood, I just wanted to add that one of the nice things about USC is that they really have three distinctive songs. So they also do Conquest and Tusk. You can see how the worlds of movies and music both help define the unique position of this school.

But I do think it is the most loved/hated song in college football.
marched 4 years in the Pride of the Southland..... fun fact about "Down the Field" - the music for "Looney Tunes" superimposes over "Down the Field"perfectly - and, despite the directors' best efforts, roughly half of the UT trombone players at any given time are actually playing the Bugs Bunny theme song when they are supposed to be playing Down the Field - if you were on an away game and Dr. Julian caught a trombone player doing that, you might have to find your own way back to Knoxville (don't worry - plenty of Tennessee RV's will be happy to have you along for the ride back to campus if you are wearing the band uniform - had a couple of trombone playing friends who had to get a ride back from Birmingham in 93.... and another from South Carolina in 92 - just make sure you check the license plate before you get in otherwise you might hear Alabama banjos...)

Of course, they sound similar. Written years ago in a different atmosphere. Our high school fight songs were "On Wisconsin" and "Notre Dame Victory March". The kicker is ( pardon the pun) were located in South Georgis close to Florida. We were a great distance from both Madison and South Bend.
Ours is based off of on Wisconsin
Lots of high schools borrow from the colleges. SoCal football factory Mater Dei wears red and white, but they have winged helmets, and their fight song is Hail to the Victors. Thanks for making this list. Great to listen to. Im not a fan of Notre Dame but them being at 7 is silly. I know it’s subjective but they gotta be top 3. Great fun to listen to all the great songs. Well done! Love Rocky Top!
As someone whos high school uses Notre Dame's fight song, I appreciate that 😂
Notre Dame sucks
Yeah ND needs to be higher
Notre Dame would be #1 on my list
@oklahoma sooners football there is no need to come onto a random reply thread and say another team sucks. it’s annoying, offtopic, and disrespectful. if you are going to disrespect a team however, atleast think about how your (unranked) team sucks more
There is no way that "Anchors Aweigh" only merits an honorable mention. Y'all are nuts.
Are we ranking them as musical compositions? How ubiquitous and well known they are? How beloved they are by College Football fans? Being in marching band in college, I've heard a good many of these in person. IMO not experiencing it in that team's home stadium in a game day environment is a huge blow. OU, A&M, Clemson, and a lot of others I'm missing are awe inspiring when you add the voices and various dance/movements of the crowd. Or some of the traditional ways they're played - Yay Alabama intro played to all 4 sections of the stadium during pregame, OSU Battle Cry and dotting the i, and again a lot of others I haven't see in person. And several have mentioned it, but Rocky Top isn't the fight song, it's a cheer/audience favorite. Pretty much every band has a few songs they play in the stands that the crowds love and are iconic for that school.
No one cares band nerd
If Rocky Top is UT's fight song, then Mr. Brightside is Michigan's.
I'm pretty sure they're ranking it by "their own opinion" whatever the heck that is
Makes me think about the old and next NCAA Football when you'll score a touchdown
This is a good list, but two of the most instantly recognizable fight songs being honorable mention is an oversight: On Wisconsin and Anchors away.
**Aweigh. REfers to hauling the anchor up to leave port
I agree...I was shocked when OW came up in the honorable mention....It's in my top 10
Life long Michigan State Spartan here, and I can’t see how “hail to the Victors” isn’t #1. I hate the wolverines with everything in me, but it’s evident to me they have the best fight song in the country.
Tbh as FSU fan and alumn I'm glad you choose the actually Fight Song, I wish you took the longer version with the Intro, but I've seen so many times people think the War Chant is the Fight Song.
Awsome video keep up the awsome work
Shame mine (UTSA) wasn’t on there, I play it every other Saturday at games. These are all fantastic, and I can’t wait to play the Vols next year!
Birds up!
Nice little program the Runners have built. I got convinced in 2016 or so, after seeing Arizona State barely escape SA with a W. I remember posting on FB at the time that UTSA was gonna be a team to watch. Why is it that UTSA could build a solid program in just 2 decades, and UTEP remains the picture of ineptitude?
Would love to see a list of college fight songs from oldest to newest.
I got to play with The Pride of Minnesota when the recording you played was made. I’m happy to hear it made as an honorable mention!
Even tho it's not considered a "Fight Song", it's played and sang after every home victory and loved ALL AROUND the world. West Virginia University Mountaineers 'Country Roads' by John Denver.
true: it's the top-rated song at Octoberfest! The Germans know every word! They just belt it out!
I love that song and the WVU fight song as well. Going to miss playing you guys. Good luck in the Big 12 Conference. Boomer Sooner!
@garywest8705 same here... I understand why y'all moved, but I wished it hadn't happened. Texas...I could care less, but I've always got along with a majority of Sooners fans. Good luck in the SEspnC. Yes, that's a jab at espn.
By the way I love your mascot "The Mountaineer" in his buckskin and coonskin hat carrying his musket. He's one cool dude.
John Philip Sousa picked Victor's first and Notra Dame second. He knew something about music.
He also wrote the MINNESOTA MARCH in 1925
I’m a Trojan through and through but I have to give the nod to Notre Dame’s fight song as my number 1. That’s the sound of college football for me
It's annoying
@William MacDonald you’re annoying🥱
You lose a lot of credibility in my eyes when you put a song at number 1 that isn't even a fight song. Rocky Top is not the Tennessee fight song
My school plays #5, so I was so excited when that got up there! These really put me in the football mood 🏈🏈🏈🏈
I disagree on the order of your top 4 but respect. It's all the teams I'd have. I'd probably put Navy at 5
Honestly Michigan's slaps
My high school in Wisconsin had notre dames fight song. Will always love it.
My college does too- and I'm in Texas!
Hail to the Victors Valliant - by far the greatest opening line of them all.
It’s madness to not rank it the best.
GO BLUE
Notre dame fught sing, usc fight sing
Who ranked these and what was the criteria? I just can't agree. Obviously, I would have some bious to rank my favorite school song in first place, but I think it may be bious against it for the low ranking it got. Also, the military academies songs aren't really college fight songs, but songs of the branches of service. So if they aren't ranked, all three of them should be honorable mentioned. My top four would include Michigan State, USC, Michigan, and Notre Dame. And I just listed Them in order from 4 to 1. Certainly, my top three are probably the most famous of college fight songs.
Disgraceful rankings… Hail to the Victors #1
I miss hearing the drum roll the prelude to Dixie following the Rebel March from the Pride of the South.
"The greatest college fight song ever written 'THE VICTORS' of the University of Michigan!" John Phillip Souza (the march king) Have to agree! Go Blue! 💪🏈 💙
Damn right! Followed by Notre Dame at #2 and MSU at #3. (OSU maybe Honorable Mention).
MSU is better 100%
NATIONAL CHAMPS
Nah you tripping for putting Texas tech that low😭
I'm surprised he put them on the list at all. Tech never gets any respect

With the 2023 season about a month away I needed this to get in the mood. ROLL TIDE!!!
From a Tennessee fan to an Alabama fan, one thing is for sure, we both hate Georgia. GBO 🍊
Amen!!
@@robertroyal8893 I'm excited for the bama game this year, hope it's as exciting as last year!
I love it that Texas' fight song starts off talking about A&M and A&M's starts off talking about Texas.
I think Wisconsin got the shaft.
Former United States Marine Corps Marching Band Director, and preeminent composer John Philip Sousa is quoted as saying "The Victors" is "the greatest college fight song ever written."
Who?
asked
@@happyvalleykid6324 no Louis Elbel wrote it.
@David Vandervliet My bad. No idea why I genuinely thought it was Sousa. Thank you for correcting me!
I’m a lifelong husker fan and I’d like to say that chanting gooo biggg reddd go big red at memorial stadium in Lincoln would be an experience of a lifetime for all u guys who love us and also the B1G teams such as Michigan also deserve the love
