So you're stuck at home, and your hair is getting a bit too long. Today, I'm going to teach you how to give yourself an easy haircut, step by step, with a method designed for beginners. Specifically, a faded undercut for men with straight or Asian hair. This is also a good tutorial on how to cut your husband or boyfriend's hair.
I'm not a professional! This is my own self cut system, and this is just what works for me.
Yes, this video is the video from the KZhead Premium ad.

POPULAR QUESTION: What are the mm sizes you used in guard numbers?
The guards I used were #1 (3mm), #2 (6mm), and #3 (9mm)
My taper control switch went, from position 1 to 5: 0.8mm, 1.1mm, 1.4mm, 1.7mm, 2.0mm
It'll depend on your clipper, but essentially, you just need to add the measurements together to try to match my sizes.
So for example, when I was cutting at 3.8mm, I was using a #1 guard + position 1 (3mm + 0.8mm = 3.8mm)
When I was cutting at 5mm, I was using a #1 guard + position 5 (3mm + 2.0mm = 5mm)
As long as you understand the process of going from a smaller size to a longer size and cutting in layers, you should be good! If you're around the measurements I used, you should get something similar to my haircut.

Pro tip for people who are worried about not having a perfect fade or having lines in their fade: they go away in like 2-3 days so don't stress over it. Your hair grows irregularly enough that any sort of lines just disappear with a few days of growth.

I’m a girl and got my hair cut short almost 3 years ago. Every time I self cut my hair, it’s never the way I want it to look and the tutorials online just were never enough to make me confident enough to cut it “right”. But this video was a game changer and I watched it like 20 times and finally tried it out. By far the best cut and the best tutorial. So happy I came across your channel and this video! Keep it up!
I am a girl and about to try this too. Wish me luck.
I'll admit, this was my first time cutting my own hair and the whole covid situation has obviously closed down my barber, I was scared shitless to cut my own hair, after watching this vid and actually doing it i'll admit I did A LOT better than I originally thought i would. Hey man, just wanted to thank you so much for making this tutorial. Hands down this was THE tutorial that made the most sense out of the countless quarantine self-cut videos out on youtube. Thanks for taking the time to NOT fast-foward past any parts, and for clearly labelling which guards you were using, etc. Finished my cut just now and gotta say I'm pretty happy with the end result. For everyone watching the video, just a few comments: 1) take your time with the cut. DON'T RUSH, and when in doubt, cut less than more -- you'll always have more time to fix it later 2) you don't need the exact guards he's using. I only had standard wahl clipper guards 1,2,and 3, and that was good enough
Yes agreed, really good tutorial, turned out great 🙌🏼

Hey! My sis did a really great job on my hair. Really! Didn’t refer to this video though. Did it on her own.
I saw this yesterday as I really needed a haircut. I decided to give it a try and your instructions were perfect. To be honest, I gave myself the best haircut I've ever had. Thanks man!
Half a year into quarantine, half a year doing my own hair. Thanks again for this tutorial man.
This is THE best/most helpful video I've seen about doing a self fade! I appreciate you took the time to literally show every step rather than give a brief explanation then doing that fast forward edit people do. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Thanks my man! It's the least I can do during these crazy times. I hope it helps!
Just want to echo the above. I've watched loads of these and your technique is good as it doesn't leave lines. It's very logically thought out. Will use on my next attempt!
I had my wife cut my hair and it went well, all things considered. I normally get a low taper fade, with .5 on the sides and 8.5 up top. My wife, bless her, had such a hard time understanding that the taper fade line goes above the ears and then dips down on the back of the head. She wanted to leave a line evenly around, kind of like a bowl cut! She's gotten a lot better though as she now can use the comb to blend the fade better 😊
oh really ??? But i dont think anyone asked
Hamid Ahmadi not a nice way to say thing Hamid, Antonio was just telling his story. Please think for your actions and wonder if it is the right way
Hamid Ahmadi stfu loner
Yeah blending the fade is the most important part
Your comment made me laugh as I did the same thing as your wife! “So the line doesn’t go straight across the back of your head??!” Oh man. Glad she’s gotten better! I certainly haven’t!
Have used this video about 5 times now, messed up the first time by trying to follow the steps from memory, but after following it exactly the 2nd time it was a great success, this has worked great for both myself and my son ever since. Getting faster and faster at doing it.
I just followed your tutorial while cutting my own hair, and it turned out to be great for the first time ever. It look great on both sides but on the back it kinda show some cut mark, but it fine. You really helped me a lot, I was so scared while holding the clipper but in my mind, I followed what you said and I just have confidence and do my best shot, and it was great after take a shower. This is definitely the best experience for those who are thinking of cut their own hair. Thanks a lot @Jensen Tung
This helped so much! I’ve attempted to cut my own hair before but this made me really feel like I knew what I was doing. Plus, I really like how it came out!
Wow! This gave me the confidence to cut my hair and I just did. It’s not perfect but I am really satisfied. Thank you!
That inverted tip is priceless. I wouldn't have ever risked that, but seeing you do it, it makes perfect sense. Great video!
Thanks this really helped. Using the ears as a guide to fade the back made it SO much easier. Best self-cut tutorial on YT 👍

After the quarantine: every hairdresser thinks it gets busy, but no everyone cuts their own hair
lol if barbers wanna make money in these times they can offer paid tutorials or something like that. For cutting your hair on your own. that way they can turn this bad situation into a good situation!
I think laziness will bring customers back to barbers anyway, in long-term.
I actually think people will screw their hair up so bad that they either go to the barber to fix or they will appreciate barbers work 😅
nobody will continue to cut their own hair after lockdown, human are just lazy and maybe only a small 5% at max will continue to cut their own hair.

Oh, this is the best self cut hair tutorial I can find so far, thanks for sharing.
Very good video. Been cutting my hair for 5 years now and I've always been scared of using scissors. I've been using my straight razor for the top, which kinda works but it's definitely not salon quality. Seeing you do it really gives me the courage to try using scissors. Great, easy to follow video by the way. A lot of videos on cutting your own hair get really technical about clipper lengths and needlessly complicated. Your technique is pretty intuitive and how I've been doing my sides as well.
Thanks for finding value in the video! BTW, I like your music taste (judging from your profile pic) 👌
Finally a video for asian hair! Thanks for the tutorial!
Best video so far! No long talks and explanations....very accurate
This was the best method. Ive used this method myself for many years! So cool seeing someone do it the same way. I have never actually cut the top so that was super cool!
Gave myself a haircut using ur tips, first time turned out great man thanks!
Yo! Your hair is on point! I've been contemplating taking the step to cutting my own hair instead of going to the barber. If I could manage to learn, I'd be straight. I'm gonna give it a shot.
This video is the most practical and is more clear on how to properly cut your own hair. Thank you so much!
Hey, Korean guy here, typical fro-ey Asian hair, but on the thinner side too (not balding, just really thin and soft hair lol). I followed your video for the first time about 5-6 months ago and I was really happy with it. Barber shops opened back up since then and I got my hair cut again at the Korean hair salon since, but I decided to try cutting it myself again today. Of course the first thing I did was refresh myself with your video! I don't do an undercut like you, but in any case, I just wanted to say that the "ruler" trick is probably the best advice ever for cutting our own hair (especially Asian fro hair). I think that was the key to making the fade look good, especially for our type of hair. We also just had a baby who's now getting close to 1 year old and I used the "ruler" trick on him too, and my in-laws asked if we had his hair cut professionally 😂😂😂. So anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the video! Great advice.
Amazing! I'm glad it's working for you. Your baby must have the freshest cut 😂
Aye bro, respect for cutting your own hair for 10 years bc I did the same! People got no idea how much money you save once you start doing it
And time too. I like your hairstyle in your profile pic!
This is truly a money saver! Did it today. Happy for my first attempt but I took no big risks.
Probably one of the best haircut videos. Legend status.
Jensen: It's easy. Also Jensen: I failed for eight years. They called me monk. Me: 😳 Nah, I'm good with the caveman look.
😂😂😂 Well, i guess he just meant to say that it’ll not work no matter how long you try IF you’re not confident enough. Won’t have to be perfect but a little investment of confidence into doing your own hair cut and you might become the legend who’s confident enough to do his own hair. 😅
Lol.. I was looking for this comment and laughed so hard on this.. No one knows what may happen if we go to barber shop now..

Holy cow, this is definitely a moderate level to professional level of DIY tutorial...hmm... I am torn, I know I would make a few holes in my head by following this method and...I think want to give myself a try.
Hey Jensen, I just tried your tutorial and: it worked....better than I would have ever imagined. Srsly it comes kinda close to what my hait stylist usualy does. Thank you soo much! You just saved my quarantine :D
Thanks you for taking us with you with the whole process of cutting the hair 💇

Thank you dude! If you follow his instructions step by step, you‘ll have a killer sidecut! Awesome 🤙🏼
Even your haircut tutorials look aesthetic LOL. Great video, might try this out once my hair gets longer
If you don't have any, order clippers online while you wait.
I've always thought, "Jensen has a fine hair cut." Not once did I think, "That's a self-experiment gone wrong." LOL Excellent video. A tip to amateurs would be to trim your hair every 2 to 3 weeks. That way you're only taking off a small length of hair so there's less chance of error and even if there is, it would be less noticeable than an inch of missing hair.
Totally agree, I usually cut my hair every 2 weeks. I only grew out my hair for 1 and a half months so I could make that transition in the beginning 😂
The first time I tried, it works! Thanks for the video...feel fresh after the haircut, after a long lockdown!
Well I gave it a try and it turned out ok. I can leave the house without a hat so I would say thats a win. I just kept telling myself baby steps and take your time. It took me one hour to do it. Slow and stead is the key. Your video really helped out, I even purchased the same clippers that you use. They worked great. Thanks again for the video.
