  • Hey everyone - thanks for tuning in! This one took me a long time to piece together simply because of all the recent game releases in the past month, and the fact that I just built a brand new computer from scratch a couple weeks ago. Next documentary is planned for November - but I have a few more reviews and comparisons planned until then, along with my first "Studio Tour" to celebrate reaching 300,000 subscribers! Please support this channel on Patreon: www.patreon.com/Nick930 - you'll get early access to new documentaries, exclusive discord access, and behind the scenes content, along with a chance to win a free game every month (once we hit the next funding goal ;)) You can also follow me on twitter @Nick930Gaming for more frequent updates on the status of new projects - and on Twitch @Nick930 where I take a break and play some of these games live. Special thanks to Rogue-9 for permission to use the early concept footage of Rainbow Six: Siege. You can check out his full breakdown of Siege's development here: www.rogue-9.com/early-development-of-rainbow-six-siege

  • Old video, but I wanted to point out that Clancy’s novels were definitely not about special forces teams fighting terrorists, that’s only really the Rainbow Six novel itself (which is pretty different from his normal stuff). Most of his books are about Jack Ryan, who is an intelligence analyst that gradually climbs through the CIA and even becomes president eventually. The books definitely focus much more on Cold War era spy stuff, naval warfare (Clancy loves subs) and a bunch of other stuff. Jack almost never uses a gun. The tactical team V/terrorist stuff is more associated with the later novels that were written by other authors but branded with his name (much like the games). Just pointing this out because I am reading the books now and highly recommend them!

    • That's why the CIA pairs John Clark with Jack Ryan on those dangerous missions because Clark is more the spec ops and was a US Navy SEAL basically SoCom. Ryan is just a smart detective profiler type that's why he climbs the ranks of the CIA because he always figures out the villains plans. To me, Clark is more interesting because he is off the books doesn't officially exist and goes in and green berets the problems when they need to clean something up but can't do it legally.

    • @@winlover37 They decided to focus too much on "balance". The problem being that every time they add a new operator or tweak a gadget then all the balance calculations need to be redone. This leads to ever increasingly complex balance calculations. My advice would've been to use the preset objectives in casual mode but allow for custom objectives in competitive. This frees the team to no longer have to focus so much on whether such-and-such bomb site is truly OP as that can happen organically. Time becomes far more important as you aren't going into the match exactly knowing how the defenders will be defending or where. Second, create new maps over new operators. The gadgets have obviously gone from somewhat believable to ridiculous as UBI has clearly struggled to come up with new ideas. Maps on the other hand they would be able to constantly create and come with the added benefit that they won't impact balance calculations. So even if they avoided the first idea of custom locations then they still avoid the compounding complexity trap.

Instead of selecting from menus to "breach and clear", you could just say it into the mic and they would respond. Siege would work better if it wasn't shackled to a franchise based around tactics and hardcore shootings. R6 Vegas 1 and 2 were fast enough and the environments were great for the modes they offered. the destruction system Siege has would also work well in an actual R6 game.

    • @@frostsoul4199 I feel siege has probably one of the best casual and competitive modes in combination, as most game lean one way or the other siege has been able to tread the line fairly well. This has lead to a strange mixture of balancing but I still think it keeps R6's core tenant of tactics and planning (comparative, seriously you need to see the backdowns people have done on the maps) along with quick thinking changes on the fly that came with the later entries seen in the casual mode.

    • @@stefanmarinkovic1229 The term "tactical" tends to take on different meanings depending on the kind of game we are talking about. For a competitive shooter, tactics are a important part of the basic gameplay formula but that tactical element takes on an entirely different flavor in a competitive PvP multiplayer environment. The way you play Siege on a tactical level is entirely different than how you would play R6 1 through 3 on a tactical level. A big part of this is single player versus competitive multiplayer. In a single player focused title, you have a lot of freedom to slow down the pace and focus more on realistic, immersive tactical situations. As we saw in the first three games, the lack of 100% laser focus on competitive balance allowed the developers to focus more on capturing the feel of being in an elite, highly capable team even if that meant that enemies often felt underequipped in comparison.

In Dota for example I learned to play so well with a couple of heroes that I almost feel sorry when guys get killed, they respawn and as soon as they appear I kill them again.. That is what happens online, I feel that if I buy Raibow 6 I would have a very bad time, I saw some people do things like killing somebody knowing their possible location, but not seeing them really. And that really puts me away, I dont think I will ever buy Siege..

  • Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear - Incredible tension filled atmosphere and gameplay. My first Rainbow Six game. Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield - Amazing graphics for that time. Similar tense atmosphere. Played for many hours Rainbow Six: Vegas - Mindblowing graphics! Was extremely taxing to then hardwares. Interesting changes to the game mechanics. Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 - More or less same with slightly better graphics. Loved the progression system Rainbow Six Siege - What a comeback by Rainbow Six! I wished they had launched Patriots because I am more of a singleplayer guy but Siege was the most perfect Rainbow six game ever. The tension was there, the tactics were there. An intelligent multiplayer shooter like no other.

    • Plus RainBow Six Vegas 2 had a great customization feature that makes modern military shooters to shame . Yes it wasn’t perfect but I loved that game . I played more RSV2 than any other title . Also played the others and I do play siege . But idk Siege can be good ... until someone Cheats lol

    • First Rainbow Six: Vegas was extremely repetative, boring techno demo with too much brown/orange filters, dull single player campagin and not enough content, plus annoying wave survaval elements, but the 2nd one is just 10 times more fun to play, even it's single player campagin is well thought out. Also i think Rainbow six game prior to Raven Shield had the best levels in original trilogy.

    • I loved Vegas at the time, but Vegas 2's addition of character customization & a sprint button instantly made it more fun to play imo. Also, what about Lockdown?
