00:00 Men's Makeup Introduction
It surprises many people to learn that men have been wearing makeup for most of recorded history, and while this may not be as common today, shifting views on gender norms have increased interest in men's cosmetics, both as a form of personal expression and to look one's best.
00:42 History of Men’s Makeup
Men have worn makeup throughout history and a variety of cultures for a myriad of reasons.
01:46 Should You Wear Makeup?
Some people still find it inappropriate for men to wear makeup, often believing it to be girly or indicative of homosexuality. Just like with people who think of dressing up as strange. You shouldn't let others' feelings dictate what you would like to do.
It might interest you to know that both Raphael and Preston do wear makeup from time to time in videos on our KZhead channel.
02:43 What is Corrective Cosmetics?
Corrective cosmetics use makeup to correct or enhance the natural appearance of the face. By "correction," we mean covering up anything that you prefer to have more seamlessly blend in with the rest of your skin.
03:18 How to Choose: 1. Determine Your Skin Type
* Dry skin
* Oily skin
* Balanced or normal skin
* Combination skin
03:49 2. Determine Your Skin Tone
* Warm
* Cool
* Neutral
04:57 3. Choose the Makeup Type
05:44 4. Shop for the Makeup
07:08 5. Select the Application Tools
* Fingers
* Sponges
* Brushes
How to Apply: 1. 07:59 Do Your Normal Skin Care Routine
2. 08:08 Select and Apply Your Concealer or Foundation
3. 10:22 Use a Translucent Finishing Powder
11:02 How Should You Take Makeup Off?
A strong reminder here, don’t sleep in your makeup. This can dry out your skin and clog your pores.
Thankfully, removing makeup is a lot faster than applying it. You will just need a makeup remover and then your regular facial cleanser.
We hope that today's guide has provided a good introduction to makeup and the basics of putting on and removing makeup. We also hope that this makes you feel empowered to give men's makeup a try if you feel it's right for you.

  • When I was working in a corporate, conservative office, I wore concealer/foundation and translucent powder to hide any blemishes, irritation, or obvious rashes (I have rosacea and eczema). My goal was always just to push these things to the background so that they weren’t distracting. I wanted people to focus on what I was saying, not on how my skin looked. If you find yourself mentally distressed by a temporary issue like breakouts, take advantage of your resources! You deserve to feel confident and polished.

  • The only "make-up" I've worn is that which is sometimes placed on me before going on stage to do my shows. (They tell me it helps to keep my light pink skin tone from "washing out" especially under spotlights.) For myself, though: Skin lotion? Always. Cologne? Sure. Deodorant? Of course. That's it, though. But you guys do you!

  • Hey GG, thanks for the really helpful video! Can I ask if you can do a video on skincare, for guys who prefer a more naturalist approach? I'm willing to bet that while makeup does the job in a pinch, the *source* of many of the problems in this video, like red or oily skin, can be dealt with directly via skincare. Is there any chance you could make a video about skincare recommendations, routines, and products?

I always advise just before washing your face at night, as you are unlikely to have to run out with it on. It helps with technique, but more importantly, it helps you become more comfortable with wearing it

  • Makeup can be very beneficial for men: -who have bushy eyebrows because there's a thing called a brow gel that you brush over your brows and they stay that way for the whole day, you can buy then tinted or clear. -who are growing their beard out because it is always patchy at first and the patches can be concealed using an eyeshadow/brow powder that matches the color of your beard. It's a nice temporary fix until the beard is fully grown out. You can even use a very thin brush to draw individual hair strokes if you want!

  • Anyone who believes there is inherently a problem with this must also stop wearing wristwatches if they want to be consistent. When wristwatches first came out, they were exclusively considered a women’s accessory because men all carried pocket watches, but women generally did not have pockets. But guess what? Style norms change. We don’t consider it a sign of cultural decline when we see men wearing wristwatches now. They are so ubiquitous that a macho man like James Bond famously wears a Rolex, and we consider him masculine for it. That normalization had to start somewhere - it may still be a bit taboo for men to wear makeup, but, newsflash, it wasn’t always, and it probably won’t always be in the future either. It’s not a big deal.

    @mockturtlesuppe@mockturtlesuppe2 жыл бұрын
    • When wristwatches was introduced they were quite fragile so it was not suitable the average mans lifestyle. This is the main reason why women could wear a wristwatch. It's not as simple as "women did not have pockets". I would recomend you to watch Bernadette Banner about the matter. Later the wristwatch would be an essential tool for war and pocket watch would not suffice. Tools are masculine and an item can thus evolve becoming more or less masculine over time. Your conclusion is right it's just silly when you start your argument on a false pretense.

    • @@henryw.elliott499 Right, so? What's your point? They were still initially primarily used by women - but just like with makeup, there will always be some people who buck the trend and defy convention. In retrospect, we don't think of those men who wore wristwatches as being strange, we simply think of it as a precursor to what we find normal now. I believe the same thing will happen with makeup. And, to be clear, that doesn't mean every man will be expected to wear makeup. Men aren't all expected to wear wristwatches today. But it simply won't be a big deal, and might even think it was kind of silly that those old conventions existed.

  • The "Gentleman " is just that, a man that is kind, gentle in nature, lives his life with integrity and at times chivalry. In others words a man's, man. We're not talking macho-ism here. A real man takes care of his family. Opposing wearing makeup (except in certain circumstances like live stage performance etc..) has nothing to do with security within yourself. I can see one of the posts already pulled the "security" card. Be yourself, but be a man. Now days there aren't a whole lot of real men around. Be a man without excuse.

    • How does wearing makeup negatively impact a man’s ability to be kind, gentle in nature, live his life with integrity and chivalry, or take care of his family? Those are the traits you gave to define what it means to be a gentleman, and then you seemed to imply that that provided a good reason to oppose men wearing makeup. I’m not seeing the logical connection between those two points.

    • @@anotheryoutubeaccount5259 Even if that were true, what does that have to do with kindness, gentleness, integrity and chivalry? I could maybe see taking care of his family being affected if a man really did spend that long (no one would), but A) not all men have families they are supporting. Is it OK for a bachelor to wear makeup? B) Many women seem to do just fine taking care of their families while wearing makeup.

    • It's completely reverse for me. I encourage trying out makeup, especially if it's not meant for covering something up, but rather as something to be noticed and admired. And I'd rather people didn't cover up their scars - I don't do it, because they're something to be worn with pride, they tell of a hardship that one survived.

Third step: put some whitening concealer under your eyes to hide any bags you might have. MFGA -- make your face great again!
