  • To me this is the most tragic Evil Dead by far. "Don't let it take my babies." But she only saves one, and even then plot armor is the only reason Cassie lives. That's what's so incredible about Rise, making it a family instead of a friend group just makes each loss so much more impactful.

    • @@ComfortZoneComic - originals were the best. The reboot was just ok. Nothing too special. Subpar level gore that was nearly all exposed by the trailer. A gender swap that kinda worked. The power of love is what saved the protagonist. Cheesy dialogue that worked back in the 80/90s. Not so much in 2013

    • @@ComfortZoneComic nah, the first is a snooze fest. I think nostalgia is clouding your memory. Eh, to each their I own, I guess. But, I rewatched the first 3 before evil dead rise and only enjoyed the latter two. First is boring but i appreciate it for its ideas and impact, second introduced me to camp and horror comedy-loved it, and the third is good but could barely be considered an Evil Dead movie. Evil dead 2013 was great, and this one is good. And both feel like actual Evil Dead movies.

  • hearing Bruce Campbell in the audio recording screaming about the caution of the book is chilling. Imagining what an older ash could be doing in that time and even interacting with the Catholic church is awesome. That little cameo is enough to provide a fan with more history and fun. The fact that it specifically relates back to Army of Darkness is pretty cool as well. It tells us that ash time traveled again at some point. Which is more than likely after the ending of the TV series. We could assume that he enjoyed the wasteland, before getting lonely or maybe accidentally fucking with a book again. Leading him to be teleported through time or maybe specifically to the date of that recording. Where he has another adventure and possibly restores humanity back to what it was. Knowing the ending of the TV series is pretty bleak and underwhelming. On the film itself, i feel like it is a perfect addition to franchise. It feels more in line with the 2013 film, but taking heavy inspiration from Evil Dead 2. As it incorporates more campiness like the sequels. I really enjoyed the setting and the twist elements on previously established concepts. Such as the reading of the necronomicon through the vinyl records. Or the door being another form of the chained cellar. I actually enjoyed the marauder and thought it was a very twisted element with the "family"/"motherhood" themes. This is also where the film shines. 2013 had its simplistic story and upped the violence. This one traded some violence for a more focused character story. It feels like a great companion piece to the 2013 remake. Evil Dead is still one of the best and strongest horror franchise that hasnt had one bad entry.

  • I love that this movie continued the 2013 requel's theme of the deadites representing something deeper to the protagonist. For Mia, it was her struggle for sobriety from drug addiction. For Beth, it was fear of motherhood. Each of their final bosses embodied those fears: Mia's was an evil version of herself and Beth's was "the worst version of family imaginable." In the end, they both realize that they cannot run or hide, but have to directly confront and conquer their personal demons.

  • It's so refreshing to watch an Evil Dead movie with thematic depth. Ellie's family gets tragically torn apart. Meanwhile, Beth is starting her own family. The sisters are inverted reflections of each other. The final showdown is a pregnant Beth versus a deadite Ellie who is carrying her deadite children in her body - as if the kids had returned to the mother's womb. Also, the camera placement, editing, lighting, makeup effects, sound design, and score are all excellent. I truly ❤this movie.

You're gonna create subliminal imagery of destroying the concept of the nuclear family by: Having a family with no father, a do-bad-all-by-herself sister of the mother, and one of the kids is trans for representation, everyone dies but the baron-sister and the little girl, because society isn't ready for child casualties yet. Oh and any males in the cast are easily killable".

Everything I could ask for in an Evil Dead film: plenty of creepy scenes, buckets of blood, a cast completely dedicated to the type of film they're making, a nice dose of dark humour, and an absolutely batshit crazy act 3.
