12 November 2005 | Friendly
Friendly? You could have fooled me. The latest instalment of Anglo-Argentine rivalry contained none of the rancour that has attended these meetings over the years, and was bigger on incident and excitement than the whole of England's qualifying campaign.

  • I remember an Argentinian manager saying it was always a pity when the two teams met early in a tournament as the tension, energy and passion of both teams invariably meant the winners also went out in the next round due to exhaustion. Just looking at this match - a so-called friendly - and you can see he was right! Am English but always had a deep respect for the Argentine players as despite all being millionaires, they never forget their backgrounds and they give all they have in every game for the shirt.

    • Una pecheada de esas legendarias jaja. Me acuerdo que lo ví en mi casa a este partido y cuando Owen nos vacunó se me vino a la mente el mundial de 1998.

    • There was nothing friendly about that game both teams wanted the win like their lives depends on it.

  • The intensity of the game was very high. It was more than just a friendly game. Prestige and bragging rights were at stake. Both teams had quality players.

  • What a great game from Gerrard in the left side of the Midfield: 1:59 ball recoverye excelente reading of the game ande then an absolutely sensational through ball to Rooney. And at 8:20 amazing cross to Owen.
