12 November 2005 | Friendly
Friendly? You could have fooled me. The latest instalment of Anglo-Argentine rivalry contained none of the rancour that has attended these meetings over the years, and was bigger on incident and excitement than the whole of England's qualifying campaign.

Sedative Southgate...
Actually before Southgate England fans were barely in love with their national team. After the 2014 world cup under Roy Hodgson, where we failed to clear the group stage, our first game back was a friendly against Norway and less than half the stadium was full. People can say what they want about GS, but especially since the 2018 world cup, there has been a general shift in support from the average England fan. And during Nations league games against Spain and Croatia in the months after that world cup, the fans were in their numbers supporting the team
I think England nowadays are set up much better. There is structure in place now with the introduction of St George's Park and England have really benefited from the highly skilled technical players they have produced, by winning under 20 and under 17 World cups most recently as well as the senior team getting to semi finals and finals of Major tournaments in 2018 and 2021
