This is not for breaking into someone's house people. It's when you want to change the pin configuration inside the lock. It requires that you have the original key, and a new key. This is useful when you have lost a set of keys and don't want your door broken into with the key that was lost. You can set it to a new set of keys, hopefully a new bunch that you have at least three of. It is a feature of the lock, it does not make it any easier to break into these locks.
However, it does mean that if someone does pick the door once, they can have unlimited access and lock the rightful owner out
@@EdgyShooter picking the lock and having a key in the lock are two different things. to reset the pin configuration, you need the key to be in the lock to do it.

As someone who works with these for a living in New construction, might I add. Same. We rotated unit keys every few months in our vacation rentals. These can be paired with electronic versions, too. Keyless access is the norm, and we put the hard key in an rental box on the side in case batteries fail. Then no callouts for lost keys.

I actually feel safe and good about leaving for work. Hope that this isn't used to harm others. But someone who's an AH will find a way to mess with someone
It's very common for landlords to move a lock from one apartment to another when there is a move out, I've always asked the landlord if it's master keyed, and bought new locks myself (no wear and tear, and the kind I want) and personally handed him a key. I used to be a shift lead in a franchise restaurant with many locations in a metro area, the district manager was always bringing a new safe "topper" from a store where a person who wasn't there anymore thus protecting two stores. I was the one to pick up the bank bags and get the days cash supply, we were cash only BTW. Many things you learn about cash handling, dimes are a pain, get nickels, two forms a dime BTW. I'd also ask customers if they had any pennies they'd like to get rid of. We had parking meters nearby and people always wanted proper change.
I hate the fact that I was having a conversation about this with someone a few days ago and now here it is magically on my KZhead feed
Big brother is always listening
No worries. It's on my feed too, even though it has never before crossed my mind.
I know man happens to me all the time and I don't have digital spies in my house like echo

Yet we don't switch to flip phones and keep electronics, and mic TV remotes locked up when not being used
Brilliant idea Kwikset, now I can key these doors to my liking
This type of lock has been around for years. Had them on a house I lived in about 15 years ago. Different brand but all i know is the hardware store we got them from only sells name brand items, and they were not cheap.
Im a apartment service manager. We use these on the apartment homes much easier to use. Especially if I gotta change locks in a hurry
This is why apartment buildings don't want tenants to change their locks.
@@JAMES-wl2pd I’ve never faced that issue, they usually just want a copy of the new key. I always swap out these junk locks wherever I move.
These are trash. It takes such a small amount of leverage to destroy the mechanism completely and unlock the door.
Bump key goes brrr....
This is literally what's written in the instruction manual when you install the deadbolt.
That's really cool but have you considered that not everyone who has these locks are who actually bought them?
You read instructions????
Renters might have these without knowing the owner put them in.
Not just that, it's literally written on the front of the box for the deadbolt as a major feature.
it’s called Kwikset Smart Key system. Literally in giant letters on the packaging explaining what it is. It’s like trying to argue buying vanilla ice cream vs vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips.
Jim and John are burglars. Jim entered the home through a door forgotten open and got 2 years. John entered a home by messing with the lock - his charge was “forced entry” and judge gave him 5 years, 2 for burglary, 3 for the lock-picking skill. True cases !!!
How to lock a toxic significant other out of the house by them still having the key 😂😂😂😂
I was not prepared for the jump scare at the end
Yeah if you see that on your partners door you better start packing your bags already!!🫠
What I believe is happening here, the shim sets the pins down past the sheer line when the new key is turned, the new key pushes the pins back into the sheer line, and the bew key worksb
Okay don't know how many y'all paid attention to this video or not, but when he went from the blue key to the yellow key all he did was swap the key chain it's the same key watch the video a few times you realize that at the end the yellow key has the exact same cuts as the blue key did at the beginning!
Interesting, that's how the apartment complex redo the locks without buying new ones!!!! Totally cool, thanks for the info! ❤👍
Oh no, you caught us,,, lol.
I was absolutely shocked to learn that our door at work can be changed five different times with out ever needing a net key or lock it’s crazy cool.
Except it kinda defeats the purpose of the lock if any key can be made to open it...
@@prestonbeaulieu4379 anyone can open practically any door lock, especially residential. Drill it, pick it, bypass it entirely. Hell take a breacher kit or make your own; and breach it. It’s all about WHO is getting in, a common criminal likely won’t even bother with picking a lock. Drilling it at best, and at worst maybe prying a door open with a crowbar. Police can breach doors, and so can anyone else. It just stops low effort crimes, and slows or delays a entry to prepared for a fight. If you rely on a lock to keep bad people out, you’re one flimsy lock away from getting robbed or killed 😂
The single mother watching me change the key to her apartment
A lock for someone with oddly specific security needs.
