DIY Lock Picking Tools

This is how I made my own lock picking tools from windshield wiper inserts. In this video I made a city rake and a tensioner, but the same methods could be used for making hooks and other tools.

  • I made my own picks using a wire coat hanger and a sculpting tool. It's a mortis lock pick but still it was super easy and so satisfying when it worked

  • I do the same with shrink tubing, but I use a hair blow dryer instead of Butane.

  • THE RTX?! I miss mine so much! It finally bit the dust. I thought it was far superior to the modern Dremels.

    • Yeah, it's the second one I've owned. I love it more than the dremel brand.

    • Thanks! It's a lot of work when you can just buy them online for not very much at all, but my city rake broke, and I wanted to see how hard it was to just make one. Turns out, the ones I made are way more durable than the ones you can buy. I've made about 6 of them and none have broken yet. Anyway, sometimes it's just fun to make stuff myself, as a challenge to see if I can do it.

  • I like the idea of this :) and the way you extended the key to the pick design, one thing I want to know is the pick you made is it just for the lock you picked or is it to pick type of lock ?

    • it's called a city rake and will work on most pin tumbler style locks, to varying degrees

  • Wouldn't it be a good idea to just buy a of picks???

    @Ramos-hd7fv@Ramos-hd7fv2 жыл бұрын
    • Buying them is easier for sure. I just wanted to make some because I was bored and I broke my city rake. The ones I made ended up being way stronger than the ones I bought. Sometimes I just like to make stuff to see if I can. I already had some wiper inserts from old window wipers. So, it didn't cost me anything but my time.

    • Yeah but i don't like buying things, even if they are cheap like picks. It's just cooler to make it yourself

  • that is not lock picking. you just made a clone of a key. why bother? just use the key. locking picking is where you don't have a key and have to pick the pins individually or use a rake with the tensioning tool. you probably didn't need a tensioning tool if you bent the end of the cloned key and used it like a regular key.

    @billsee476@billsee4763 ай бұрын
    • I didn't clone a key. Lol I made a city rake using a key as a reference to get the bumps. I didn't just trace the key in place I kept moving it.... The shape is nothing like the key. Also, if it were a clone of a key it wouldn't work to pick dozens of different locks with.

      @ravenironwing@ravenironwing3 ай бұрын
    • okay, but it wasn't made clear that that was the case

      @billsee476@billsee4763 ай бұрын
    • @@billsee476 if you've seen a city rake before it's pretty clear that's what I made. If not, yeah, a city rake does look a little bit like a key, except longer and super thin.
