Which Had the Superior Military: First or Second World War Germany?

This is unadorned/unfinished audio of a Dan Carlin discussion about which German military was superior, the First or the Second World War version. Unlike the approach in traditional Hardcore History releases, brevity wins out over depth in this attempt at short-form content from a traditionally long-form creator (note that it is still 50 minutes!)

If Dan were a teacher, he'd be the kind of person to have students ditch other classes to attend his.
M Jin I would without a doubt
that's cause students don't like rigorous academic material. like learning math without proof
lack of absolute proof makes a light academic class not!
I totally would skip everything to attend Dan's classes.
he'd also be the kind to actually have you read all those damned books he makes you buy and also wouldn't make you buy his own books... since they're audio books and you can get them free online.
Dan, you got to name this format softcore history...
Bahahahahaha perfect!
I spat out my drink.
someone on the Dan Carlin Subreddit mentioned calling this type of podcast Softcore History as well.
YES
Ingimar Sverrisson Can we start a hashtag trend for this?
Give. This. Man. Money.
Gives this mans a show netflix
@@christx2580 it would be ruined because they would recreate it to be unrealistic. Half the armies would be women in wheelchairs and Hitler would be transgender haha
@@MaeMaeTube what a moronic comment
Anthony Drake he’s right you stupid fuck, been living under a rock lately?
Done.
This is the nicest comment section on KZhead. I love it.
AlbertJustice your mom :P
Give it time haha
There we go, that's better.
Idk, I think Jordan Peterson may have Dan beat. :D EDIT: Didn't expand replies when I wrote my comment. Sort yourself out.
shhh
Keep it coming, Dan.
Dan is a bad man.. pls wake up.
How do you mean, Generation X?
So true!
Is this a 2017 release? A recent upload of a vintage episode? Regardless i am rubbing my hands w anticipation...
@Jacob Gold He's doing a new, more off-the-cuff style of HH, and this is the pilot! Just released.
You're the best, Dan. Please don't ever give up on your series

At about 2:20 the term Dan is looking for is "Diesel Punk".
Best voice in podcasts
hi bye seriously he's the best
Got the right amounts of heart, drama, and grit. I listen to him before bed a lot!
Over my college career, I've gone from not really caring for history to taking an extra minor in it just for fun, all thanks to great teachers and speakers on history, not the least of which is Dan. Thanks for helping to spark my interest in such fascinating topics!
Also, at 2:20, I believe the term after steampunk that you're looking for is film serial, a la Indiana Jones

1st. Dan is the man. Going back to school to earn a history degree because of Dan.
Joshua that’s awesome. Good for you dude. I’m a history teacher. Go for it !
Thanks man! That’s what I want to do! I want to teach children history, so they won’t repeat it!
I'm in school right now getting a history degree. I want to be a professor because of Dan
Joshua yes yes yes!!! Bravo brother. Open kids eyes. It’s an amazing thing!
Lethal FPS awesome. Good for you. 👍
>short form content >video is almost an hour long
Thats Dan for you... May he never change!
Full lenght edition: 20+ hrs Blitz edition: 5-6 hrs Relative to that, this really is quite short.
They'll be up to 5 hours within 10 episodes
If that means we'll be getting them more than twice a year, I'm entirely fine with that. Besides, we all rewatch them a dozen times anyway.
I give it two episode
Waiting for Dan Carlin's COLD WAR
Cam Rackam it already exists 'destroyer of worlds'
olha2 Destroyer of Worlds is hardly the whole cold war
check out his episode called Meandering Through The Cold War
meandering through the cold war is just a summary of general effects and origins of the cold war
Cam Rackam "The destroyer of worlds" it's so fucking good I listen to it all the time it scares me to tears
Dan not only helped me realize my passion for history, but for learning in general. What a gift! Thank you, Dan.
Please make more of these Dan, your opinions and arguments are always fascinating
Your work is absolutely fascinating.
Awsome man i love this. Your normal stuff is amazing too. Keep it up. The more material the beter
To paraphrase Capt. Kirk, 'We trust your opinions more than we trust most peoples facts'
^^ this!
It's like Christmas morning every time a new Dan Carlin video/podcast is released. Love the new idea to get more content out. Thanks!
I see a hardcore history update, I don't care what it is, I jump right on that
when was that?
Blueprint for Armageddon and Ghosts of the Ostfront taught me more about the World Wars than 2 semesters worth of classes in college. Overall, Hardcore History is more effective at teaching history than my classes for my BA History degree. I'm going to ask Santa to give me all of the episodes for Christmas
Dan is a modern day story-teller, and I do not mean that in the sense of anything bad or derogatory. When he talks about history his 'format' is one would more expect from someone who was really good at telling stories to a large audience. Imagine if Dan were telling stories around a campfire about Beowulf or Gilgamesh. That's what he does when he talks about history and I love it.
Personally the story of the Gutenberg Bible was the one that looked me down my path of understanding the world. The hardcore history about munster Germany, which was that?
Daniel Prophets of Doom is the episode i believe.
Dan Carlin would be the first one to call you out on that nonsense. You can't beat experts in the field. It is something that ALL AMERICANS just cannot wrap their heads around for some reason. I had Egyptian History course taught by a guy who knew Arabic, Greek, Latin, Hieroglyphs, German and English. And who had personally been to Egypt like 20 times. Dan would certainly have something interesting to say about Egypt in general I am sure. He isn't teaching me better through Audio only what nonsense.
@@ExecutiveChefLanceyeah how many professors have expertise on that level though? For all we know dude went to a some community college in bumfuck, Nebraska. There are absolutely droves of professors completely devoid of passion, expertise, or the ability to teach. Your experience is not universal.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! This is great idea you have to get more content out. Having a new piece of Dan Carlin in my life on a closer-to-monthly basis is a life improving thing if there ever was one..
Listening to you explore this topic was a gem. I hope this idea of "short" podcasts sticks. We'd love to hear from ya more often.
Dan, I have been watching KZhead for years. I have never felt compelled to comment on a video. I do now for the first time. This "short form" format is a perfect stop gap solution for the all too long, but understood gap between HH episodes. Please keep these coming, and thank you for the incredibly hard work that goes into all of the content you put out.
I love the military-boxer comparison. Great stuff!
This is absolutely amazing work, more of this Dan please! As long as it does not interfere with your work on the long form regular Hardcore History and doesn't burn you out!
I really like this format, especially the deep-dive into an aspect of a theme or concept touched upon in some of the podcast series.
Dan, I loved it. This is a fantastic idea for a supplemental show. I would love to listen to one of these a month, either in your main hardcore show or a new podcast. This was fantastic and I'm amazed how even in short form you can be so though provoking. Excellent work, hope to see more.
I've had a few runs of bad luck here in the last month with my vehicle that has cost me quite a bit, but I will be sending you a small donation here very soon for all of your work. I thank and appreciate you for taking the time and effort to make these "shows" for people like me. I'm still catching up and your projects, but you have literally changed my view of the entire world. Thank you
I have been waiting for this throw away line to be elaborated on for so long. Thank you so much Dan
After Steam-Punk is Diesel-Punk, which also is connected to "Pulp-Fiction". Think "Indiana Jones", "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow", or settings like that. It's sorta related to Film Noir, but not quite.
I discovered your content recently and I haven't been able to stop watching! Love your content Dan!
Hey Dan! Big fan. Love this new quick format. Keep em comin
Thanks Dan. You are the reason I am captivated by history as a hobby!
well thats sad . lol History is the greatest subject , it allows us to look back at our faults & right them & the story telling is simply amazing ... History = Hot Sweaty Sex
Always enjoy your work. Listen to each one 5-20 times
Such an amazing man to listen to. Thanks so much for this amazing series, Dan. Please keep it coming!
I look forward to your history shows more than anything else on the radio or even tv or the movies. Thank you from Canada!
Dan, I love this idea and hope you keep it up. Thank you for the effort and time you put into your work.
I could listen to you ramble about anything history related. You always have interesting topics and tangents. Great voice too.
Much appreciated Dan. Look forward to more of these.
Wonderful program, thank you!
Keep it coming man...been listening for a decade and it just keeps getting better
From what I've seen, I enjoy whatever I get from you and the team. Any content is great content. If doing this scratches an itch right now, then I'll gladly receive the benefit.
Awesome conversation and points!
Great work Dan ! Also, whoever does the art work for each Hardcore History on your website is one super talented dude/gal.
Great work Dan .. looking forward to hearing more
Discovered you and your wirk a bit late, but I LOVE what you do mate, particularly this type of podcast. Thoroughly agree, by the way, but having someone like yourself really articulate it for me is a real gift, so thanks for your work! 😃
Amazing job! Thanks for the upload
Amazing stuff as usual, Dan! I can only think of one downside to these shorter episodes... And that's that they leave me desperately wanting more!
Love your work in ANY form, and the idea of having more than 2 shows a year is very enticing. I like the idea of these "short ones" sprinkled between the larger works.
Hello Dan, Håvard from Norway here. I loved this "teaser", please make a full lenght episode if you can. But most important; keep the hardcore history coming, reguardless of what the topic is. I love youre show!!!
Thanks for the series so far absolutely amazing
This is great! I've been listening to HH for close to ten years, and I really enjoyed this one hour one-off.
I appreciate this so much! Thank you for this content!
Please Dan do more of these. We love your content
Love this! Anything to keep us going in between Hardcore Histories!
Love the short form! More please!
I miss these. Thanks for putting this up Dan!
Dan I love this concept
Greaaaaat!! I hope you make more like this!
Awesome, Dan. So happy when i saw this in my feed
Love it Dan. I think this is something hat you can flow off of in a short form and we love those moments in the podcast! Well done. Fanboy moment over, as you were ;)
Definitely keep this series going, Dan! This is great!
Love the format. Keep it up!
Great listen Dan - thanks for the effort!
I really like the content my friend. Keep pushing.
Excellent! Happy for the new content. Just yesterday I listened to Episode 1 and 2. Thought I'd make it through all the classic Hardcore History before a new one came out.
Happy to be proven wrong!
Happy to be proven wrong!
Glad to see you on KZhead!!!
You got me into this stuff, man. love the podcast
I have listened to Blueprint at least 6 times and this is good stuff. PLEASE DO MORE!
Dan, please make more of these!
Very much enjoyed this expansion on the point made in Blueprint for Armageddon that I also picked up on first time I listened to that series. The format reminds me of the early HH episodes in that it is a shorter take on a single question or comparison, and I would love to see these become a regular thing to fill the gap between the full-length 'deep dive' episodes.
Loved it. More little shows to fill the time and catch up is a great idea
Thanks for all the great content!
Absolutely amazing! I love this channel so much!
We would be more than happy to pay more for more content dan. I don't think I've ever used the word more 3 times in one sentence but you get the point.
Anything that results in more new occurrences of Dan speaking into my ears per month is something I support. Wonderful episode, Dan. Keep it up!
This was (of course) again a great story Dan, love any content you create. So, shorter+more frequent equals awesome. If you can insert this in your regular podcast feed it would be appreciated. My car is not really okay with KZhead playing 😉. Understand completely if you cannot do this though for the reasons mentioned.
We need more, more, more of your work please.
Very cool. Keep it coming!
Great stuff Dan. Keep em coming
You do any type of content you want I've never been disappointed or uninterested
Dan. KEEP IT UP. Whatever the format. I love your shows! Thank you.
Man, getting in on a Dan Carlin video before 300 views??? I feel so special
John Holden you are a certain kind of special.:p
I bet he last time you were so early the Kaiser was still a thing.
Big fan, Dan. Thanks for sharing some of KZhead
This stuffed me up. No podcast, just found this randomly. I’m shocked I could have missed it
I love when people say dan doesn’t have proofs for many of his episodes. He literally reminds you he’s not a historian like every hour. Oh, and every single citied book is available to buy on amazon from his website. Lazy people kill me man.
Excellent love this format in between full episodes! I am a huge Great War buff this along with your amazing “Blueprint to Armageddon” has capture my attention. Most 20th century history enthusiasts focus on WW2 so being able to listen to additional content on the First World War is music to my ears, I read and watch anything I can get my hands on regarding The Great War, and compared to WW2 there is far less out there, so I very much appreciate this. Keep up the amazing work!!
Hey David what resources would you recommend to get a good general overview of WWI? Thanks!
@@RoryAbcoe “The First World War” by Martin Gilbert is great. Also listen to Dan Carlin’s Blueprint to Armageddon. It’s a great series
*FINALLY* Dan discovers KZhead. (Quick, Ben, while he's dipping his toe in the water, push him in!!!)
Me2 lol if there is a " Ben"
Get in there!!
Yes, please keep doing these shorter ones between complete episodes, it's a great idea!
Interesting Dan, love it! Keep it up!
Dan Carlin I love you man. The topics you cover and how you cover them is incomparable.
Thanks for letting us hear this, Dan! Huge fan.
These podcasts are ridiculously and consistently great
It's a testament to the greatness of Dan Carlin podcasts that this is the most wholesome comment section I've ever seen on a KZhead video. All kinds of praise, thanks, and admiration.
Great listen! Thanks for putting it together Dan.
The German Imperial army was a more professional organization. The officer corps was largely aristocratic which made the enlisted even more dedicated to follow their officers.
i love dan carlin's perspective it takes in so much scope from all sides to form a narrative, its truly art
We want more! Brilliant as always!!
Thank you Dan, you are easily one of my top five favorite story tellers, and if the question of whom has the greatest speaking voice comes up Dan Carlin is an answer I would accept. This reminds me of your first episode by the way, Alexander vs Hitler a personal favorite of mine.
I liked it. Clearly a raw take/raw audio, but I would not be upset in the slightest to have Dan Carlin's Hardcore History Musings pop up on my feed. Keep them coming!
I absolutely devour your content. I've listened to everything you've done at least 5 times :0
