  • Hope this helps someone. Searched gaming laptops like crazy for 4 months before I bought a new one 1 month ago (upgraded from MSI 63thin 1660Ti) to Lenovo Legion slim 5 with 4070 and a Ryzen 7840HS. Screen 2560x1600, (QHD). Reviews said some bad stuff and some good stuff about the CPU and GPU but man let me tell you it runs smooth as butter on every game. Thermal has not been a problem at all. What I want to tell people with this comment is just do the amount of research you want but after a while just go for it. Because someone will still say the comp is bad either way.

    • Was this a Gen 8? I haven't seen the Legion Slim 5 with 4070. I'm leaning towards the 7840HS+4060 Gen 8. Gen 9 is starting to be available, but pricing is a bit more for the 8845HS+4070 than I'm looking to spend. (My Nitro 7 suffered hinge failure recently, so looking to move up from 10750+1660ti - though I will miss the triple m.2 configuration) 5 months ago I was waiting for the Acer PH16 i7/4070 to drop back to good sale pricing... now I'm hinge-salty.

  • Hi Jarrod'sTech, I want to emphasize my thankfulness for your KZhead channel and your through reviews on gaming laptops. I'm looking for a new laptop to replace my problematic Dell Alienware laptop and your YT videos really help me in honing in on deals and what to look out for. After dealing with Dell, I would emphasize to new buyers that reading reviews on the manufacturer and on the product itself is extremely important. Buying an Alienware x15 R2 has been nothing but motherboard issues and my warranty all of sudden was 'not found'. This is my 5th time in 3 months I've had this issue. Also, my previous laptop, I would emphasize more on cooling tech and staying away from plastic chassis'; because omg I promise you if you don't its like your touching a grill while playing games or other GPU-intensive work. Also for battery consumption for work, watching videos, etc. I recommend going into the Windows settings for common apps such as Chrome, Edge, Media Player - switch it to use the Integrated GPU instead of the Dedicated GPU for maximum power-saving. It's literally night and day.

Those 40 series are way too expensive), and it has been amazing. high resolution with 165hz, and 32 whole GB of ram. also for reviews I recommend looking at patterns in the negative reviews, such as people complaining that there was only one ssd slot, and ignoring the one off issues like john doe saying his computer broke after 3 days of use.

While I hardly ever game on it, as I utilize my desktop computer for that, the HP Omen means a lot to me emotionally as it's my backup just in case I'm unemployed and my desktop computer crashes. • Laptops were initially manufactured with a CPU socket, just like they are now on motherboards. However, they soon started soldering them, understandably, as it generated more profit. After experiencing significant heating issues with older models, users were told that the CPU had failed and that they needed to buy a new laptop. Meanwhile, companies were refurbishing (CPU reballing) and reselling the same laptops. Today, laptops generate less heat and have fewer breakdowns, but the reballing method remains the same. That's why we don't drive cars on hydrogen but on fuel :). Good video!

Just a small suggestion though for real world usage apart from gaming, like in da vinci , adobe premiere etc. it would be more helpful to see results of exporting and editing some high quality footage and even in blender using the classroom scene or something similar as a standard. These would convey more meaningful information as to how capable these machines are and if they are significantly better than our existing system.

Is 8GB of Vram good enough or should i look for a 12gb card, I probably wont upgrade for 3 years or more.... or maybe should i wait for Black Friday and possibly get a 4080 which has both of these things, I could try to stretch the budget a little bit. or maybe wait until Nvidia drops a refresh of the 4070 or AMD drops a new Laptop Card. I'm always like in a matrix like the slo-mo fight scenes whenever I use it and then Windows 10 just randomly stops. I bought my Thinkpad x250 2nd hand and it cost around 240usd while the Legion Pro 5i (max specs) cost 1,400usd in B&H due to the upcoming black friday or holiday sale. I know you discussed it plenty and it turned out to be basically equal to 3070ti, but in Legion 5 pro 2023 review you published, the 1% low was actually much worse than 3070ti. • I know this probably isn't the answer but just trying to help I'd say if you don't currently have a 3000 series laptop, 4060 or 4070 are no-brainers, great bang for the buck ( even though the 4060 is better when thinking about cost-benefit ) but even if it costs a lot more the 4080 or 4090 are much better choices ( I'll buy a 4080 one myself next year, the improvement from my current 3060 is around 108%, not taking into account the processor, ram differences and everything else pretty much ).

    • @@andreabeccarisi1126 4070 is just a bad deal for mobile. The thing is, usually it cost almost 300 Euro to step up from 4060 to 4070 but you don't get more VRAM or a significant performance boost. I'll say its either 4060 or 4080 for mobile, skip the 4070. 4070 to 4080 is such a significant step up in performance that it is actually worth it if you can afford.

Ryzen 7 with an average GPU but the other specs like the screen I don't remember. Even then I rarely have performance issues when gaming nor do I particularly care how good the game looks ie how far I can push it. I might replace in the next year or two, but like I mentioned, its a fiasco for finding the right CPU, GPU and everything else on top.

  • I have a dilemma. Buying my very first gaming laptop and stuck between two options - 1) Lenovo Legion S5 and 2) Lenovo LOQ 15. Both have the same price and share most of the specs, but one - S5 has better 2K screen and slower R5 CPU, while LOQ has better i7 processor and not very good FullHD screen. Which one do I choose? Better screen and colors or better CPU performance? Would really appreciate your advice

  • Prices in europe are pretty wild rn. My budget is 1700 or so, and from what i've seen that's either a 4070 with qhd or 4060 with oled, with some flavors of cpu and ram. 4070 doesnt seem enough to handle games in qhd at a good stable framerate with 8gb vram, and since 4080 is 1k more and unreachable, i was wondering if 4060 with led is the better choice if you're gonna downscale to fhd anyway? I can't use externals...

  • I got the Legion Slim 5 16" 7840HS and 4060 and 96GB RAM. Few things that i wish i had put more consideration into. BIOS upgradability methods. You can't upgrade bios from inside bios, from USB stick. For example on my asus desktop i can update mobo bios even without monitor, RAM, CPU, GPU, keyboard, mouse. Lenovo for this product segment only gives BIOS update from Windows. The other problem is that with official Nvidia driver, the 4060 can't fully power down even in iGPU 780M mode. This is extra 15W an hour doing nothing (if i had known that from beginning, i had gone with 780M only laptop, because the Nouveau driver, that can fully power down 4060, this does not have Optix and Cuda compute).

  • How much better is a 4060 with a i5 (Acer nitro 5) $1300AUD vs a 4050 with a i7 (Lenovo Loq 15) for $1400AUD? I have watched both videos on the builds and they both look quite good however I have no direct comparisons with data of a 4050 loq and 4060 nitro 5. Which one do you guys recommend? Also anyone in Australia do you have recommendations on gaming laptops that will last at least 4 years?

  • I currently cannot find a match for tip 4! Nothing is great until you spend $$3K or more! Most displays are 300-350 nits. Asus is now closing in on 500 nits...but dont support HDR. Vivobook and Zenbook Pro models have OLED displays in the 400-600 nit range but come in thin, lower wattage chassis that still overheat and shut down. I am about ready to just give up and wait a couple years to see if manufacturers get serious about this!
