DUTCH OVEN COOKING AT CAMP - CADES COVE IN THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS
Join us for the continuation of our trip through the Smokey Mountains. Tonight we are in Great Smokey Mountains National Park at Cades Cove campground. Camping is much more popular this trip since the pandemic. Lots of folks have discovered just how much fun it is to experience the outdoors camping. There were still plenty of sites available during the week. If you want a site on the weekend, you better go online to recreation.gov and reserve a site if is earlier than NOV 15th. Last time it was much earlier on Nov 1st. I'm going to cook up another simple dutch oven dish that even the beginner can make easily. This is dutch oven 101 for beginners for sure.

Looks yummy. I hang my dutch oven from a tripod over my heat on a chain. Easy to adjust the heat level.
Great video. In the background I see and hear a river that’s calling out your name. Hopefully you’ll catch some trout and do a catch, clean, and cook. Stay well.
One thing I always look for in a Dutch oven video is whether the bail on the oven is shiny & new or bent, old & black....always go for the latter!😎😎😎
Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Thank You for sharing these videos! Enjoy your trip! Gunny Highway. Improvise, adapt and overcome! Seems like you did it in this stop of your trip!
Another great video glad you guys are enjoying your trip, thanks for bringing us along.
Oh my goodness, I lived about 45 minutes from Cades Cove for awhile and I LOVED IT!! EVERYONE SHOULD SEE CADES COVE !! Deer, bear, old cabins and the old church with the graveyard. It was so sad tho to see how many children died back in the old days!! Other than that it was pure joy 🤩
Thanks for another great video. Make it a great one. Glad you had fun! Love the GSMNP.
Enjoying the series. I'm glad y'all had a great trip. Food looks delicious.
Thank you for reaching us newbies how to cook in Dutch Oven . You and mrs. backwoods have a great 2022.
Nothing better than cooking outdoors. Awesome video 🔥🎉👍
Thank you for your service! Wife and I both served! Just recently retired and started tent camping. Enjoy your channel, from NC. Live in FL.
Been there done that. I'm a survivalist thanks to my father 👍🏼😄. Taught me right along with my brothers. My son's and grandsons are also survivalist. When it comes time, we're ready. 👍🏼 We all love camping also. From minimalist to luxury and all in between. I'm getting my ducks in a row again now. I enjoy watching your videos. ❤🙏🏼🇺🇸
Great job Always love your cooking
I am enjoying you two doing what you enjoy. It's nice to see Mrs. Backwoods too. Thanks for sharing.
Just ran across this, enjoyed watching. Our old family cabin is still in Cades Cove. It's opened periodically to the public. Really beautiful there. Kind of sad that families were run out by the government many, many years ago and had to relinquish their homesteads. Enjoy. Thank you again, looks delicious!!!
You’re living our dream. Hope to see you on another trip.
Brother, that looks delish! Thank you for the video!
Thank you for the video! Back to the true essence of a quality KZheadr!
Thanks for sharing. We took a trip to the Blackhills in South Dakota last year during Covid. Super busy. We made it a policy to drive only gravel roads. Saw a few cars the whole time. Like you checked out places we would never have seen and loved it. Take care. We did Smoky Mt. last April. Great place!!
Enjoying the series!
The food looks good. Nice to cook over the fire. Thanks for showing us. Take care.
Nice fall early winter camping is awesome
Looks great as always
Love the bedhead!
Thanks for sharing. We had a site booked a couple of weeks ago but the forecast was rain. So we stayed home.
Looking forward to the rest of the trip. The leaves have just started changing, in mid November in North Ga. So, you made it just in time. Haven't camped for a while, so its fun to see your trip. Although I did use my collection of cast iron, to cook & serve food in, at a friends wedding, this weekend! So, for 150 hungry people, it counts!
Mr Backwoods I would like to see a video on how you have your truck setup. In the camber shell
Great video love that place, pork chop and cabbage dish a favorite, thanks BW
Awesome channel! I've learned so much in like an hour of binging
Man...i love your videos....so relaxing....Best wishes from germany!!! Jo...
Hope you guys got to see the 'reconstruction village' at the base of the blue ridge parkway. Aint been there since 75. It's really amazing.. LIving History park.. Really nice there.
Awesome vid!
Your new studio is great. But I truly enjoy the campfire cooking.
Sure enjoyed your campfire cast iron cooking and your style of camping. Food looked great. Pay no mind to the few sore head trolls. They are test tube failures. Keep that good cooking and interesting travel/camping coming. Great show !
Hello from Germany.🤜🤛 I love Dutch Oven dishes🥘🔥👍
Enjoying your travels! Looked like a yummy dish!
Thanks for watching Darla
Cades Cove is one of my favorite places here in Tennessee.
Much Enjoyed !! H.
Next your at Cade’s cove ! Run into Townsend!! Great iga. Store there with everything you could need ! Great meats also !
I'm new here. Cool video. Love to watch camp cooking and the outdoors.
Greetings from Sevierville, Tennessee!
Awesome video
Grew up in the smokies nice channel 👍🏼
Enjoy the channel. Kinda liked the chit chat, success and fails, makes it real.
Great stuff thanks
Great video. Thanks!
From Cosby, TN down through the cataloochee Valley by way of the old cataloochee turnpike down to Maggie Valley, NC Is a fantastic ride on an old primitive road. Where was the old fire truck we, enjoy taking our Jeep out away from the crowds when we visit.
THe fire truck was north of Ellijay at the entrance to Conessauga.
Good video. Looked for a Natty Light and never saw one. That's my beer too.
I was up there in September. It would have been funny for us two Floridians to run into each other in Tennessee.
You need go Standing Indian Campground in Franklin NC
Dutch Oven's in the Tundra is a Win!!
I was in Cades Cove on Labor Day weekend
Enjoy your company! Nice sites and good eating! We got cut short of the tasting… How were the pork chops? & cabbage? Be safe and enjoy! Marcus from Chesapeake VA.
weather gonna warm up on Thurs, Fri, Sat......I going to central TN for a three night camp.
If I'm mistaken that old log cabin is located on Santheela (sp) creek, outside of Robbinsville NC, the cabin is Stewart cabin. Has a spring house in back. Camped close to it many many times to trout fish the creek.
I think that you are correct, We were in Santeetha.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel I've fished every inch of that creek from where it runs into the lake as far up till it ain't no more than about 6 to 8 feet wide. Used to it was possible to rent Stewart Cabin from the forest service for maybe up to 2 weeks for vacation, I don't know if its still possible or not. I've camped many times in the field next to it.
Loved the video. Where did you get that boat paddle spatula you were using
Yard sale find.
A good shot of Kentucky whiskey will help level that grill.
😬😅
Just an FYI, there are no elk near cades cove they're all on the NC side of the park. Hope you enjoyed your time there, my favorite place on earth!
Those Elk don't know where the boundary lines are, they have spread to everywhere they want to go. It wouldn't surprise me if some are not in Cades Cove.
Must be spreading out. I heard a bull bugle early AM the next day.
They absolutely could, but they have not. Just ask any Ranger or volunteer that you see throughout the park. In this video is a white tail doe. To see Elk I recommend the Oconaluftee visitor center area, Cataloochee Valley or downtown Cherokee, NC.
Expected to hear Rocky Top as the intro music...!!
Copyrighted. Dang!
I’d love to see how you pack for a primitive camping trip like this. Our adult kids would love to camp in every National Park, and love cooking with cast iron and campfires. Question what cooking tools are a must for this? Looking for gift ideas for them
Check out my Amazon Store amazon.com/shop/backwoodsgourmetchannel
first video I watched from you and I sub. I know what you meant from the general dollar charcoal. :-)
Cabbage is a great ingredient
Improvise, Adapt & Overcome. Well said. Liked & Subb'd
Do you have a video showing your camp setup?
Check out the channel page for much more. Over 500 videos.
You are lucky you didn`t run into some of those Hillbilly`s that were in the movie "Deliverance". That would certainly give you and Mrs. Backwoods something to talk about.
I also have a tundra with the decked system. What mattress do you have in the back?
The queen size fits perfect. I stay in there on hinting and fishing trips also.
How much did you bought that lodge cast iron, sir?
I was wondering if you would ever do a comparison of the cheaper cast iron skillets...mainstays...Ozark trail ...pioneer woman...ones like that...to see how you like them and compares to the more expensive and popular ones....thank you
I might do this comparison. The only problem is that a lot of this made in China cast iron is made from recycled materials with all kinds of impurities including lead because there are no controls on manufacturing over there.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel I understand...I just thought it would be interesting....I actually own one of the mainstays pans and cook in it a lot and has become one of favorites to use....thanks for your response and love the channel
Also no one else is doing comparisons on these and you could be the first to do this and let everyone know about these being made in China and being no controls on the metals and such...thanks again
you mad me hungry
yea I can't..my mates eighty five year old sister is living with us. I would love to do this.
1:38 WITH REV. : "RT FT SURFACE VERY SLIGHTLY WARMS"
I use my alaskan knife for this kind of cutting
Is that coal table lighter than the camp chef? The camp chef is a pain to travel with.
I don't really know what Camp Chef product your referring to, but this little home made plate weight about 1/2 lb
Your cap is unraveling on top.
1:06 - YOU GOT A COLD...
Want to see the canoe for that paddle
??
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel I don't remember what I was thinking. Obviously spell check got me again. Sort of remember that I did like your boat so much that the amazing scenery was 2nd fiddle.
Subscribed. Need some beef videos.
Over 500 video on our channel page. Check it out.
I hope that water wasn't cold.
I’ve asked Santa for a dalstrong chef’s knife and a boning knife. I will have to tell him about the link to save 10%. I have a zwilling German made chefs knife but I don’t want to carry that around in my cook box.
Did you get a permit for that camp 🏕 fire 🔥 You do know you have to have a permit for that fire 🔥
Been making quality camp fire's my entire life (and that's a long time), I know how to build a proper fire for the conditions at hand. Now, how in the *ell is a Permit going to change anything ? Getting Seriously Tired of all this Bureaucratic Fascism, People We didn't elect that can just "Mandate" whatever crosses their Fancy today, Screw a Whole Bunch of Permits.
No permit needed at this time of year.
@@sickofpolitics4592 You have to get a permit from at the from the park ranger you can’t just build a fire 🔥 anyplace you want!
@@Blastfence1 first, I wouldn't just build a fire anywhere I wanted, it would be in the proper place, 2nd, I know when it's not advisable to build a fire, haven't started a forest fire yet, and don't plan to.
@@Blastfence1 Our fire was in the fire ring at the campsite.
thanks for taking us along! how is the gas mileage on your Tundra? keep fartin! haha
If you want a Tundra, don't even think about gas mileage. Mine is not broken in yet, but it will be the last truck I will ever have to buy.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel yeah I have a double cab Tacoma V6 and its not all that good on gas either. but love the Toyota's! I'm about ready to buy my last truck soon!
Wife is like, "You make like 30k a month on youtube and I gotta sleep in a truck"? How about a nice Hilton, hahahahah
You have a mistaken idea on how much KZheadrs make. Might have been a day back 10 years ago, but not now. Takes over 1 millions subs now to make a living at this.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel I was just playin
TELL ME WHATS THE HAMMER FOR.LOL
I would have a Cb and my seven o6 Icom with me. a wire in the tree and you can talk.
Someone has to be listening.
Should've leveled your work & prep area before hand, a bad carpenter always blames his tools!
Critic in every crowd.
Nix the travel log...we want to watch the cooking.,
Say what you like, but this is my number 1 video this year so far. So I think your out-voted.
