  • 100 tires wasn't enough? Not even 200. But 2,000,000 tires just dumped with no research on the environmental effects. Sounds like they just wanted to get rid of tires and didn't have a better idea

  • Shred the tires and use them with asphalt to make the roads last longer and ride smother. Its been tested in northern Arizona where the weather is cold and snowy during the winter. The Asphalt industry said no to longer lasting roads.

    @davidsmith385@davidsmith385Ай бұрын
    • They asphalt lobby prevents this. Yes, there's a powerful asphalt lobby. Constant resurfacing of roads is VERY profitable. Think about it. Bad roads destroy tires and shock absorbers...so those companies profit. Gas mileage goes down due to construction traffic jams...so gas companies profit. Asphalt manufacturers and petrochemical companies profit from the manufacturing of the asphalt. Companies that handle disposal/recycling of old asphalt also profit. Corporations that do the road repairs profit. Politicians profit from kickbacks and campaign "donations". It's like heathcare. There is no profit in fixing a problem...only in ongoing treatment.

  • Man back in the 2000s built a power plant that runs off a used tires. The byproduct from the burnt tires was a high concentration of fertilizer so there were zero waste besides the filters that had to be scrubbed so it did not harm the air environment, but all he got was a headache From the county and the government attacking him and forcing him out of business, these bureaucrats are so ignorant and so full of their selves these days too much booksmart not enough reality these people are unfit for these positions. • I saw a fence here on KZhead made from used tires in Africa. Some use the treads as soles for shoes. Earthships use tires as part of their foundation walls. They are a kind of half- underground house. Docks use them against the dock wall to protect the wooden boats when they knock against the walls. Some use them as flower planters when half buried in the earth. Toxic trash is a world wide problem. The UN should study it. Also, when left lying around, they collect rainwater which then breeds mosquitos. If painted, like the ones in the African fence, perhaps the rare earth elements, etc will not escape?

  • Most people are not aware of this but they had come up with a viable answer by grinding up old tires and mixing the material in with asphalt and paving highways with this blended material. Unfortunately the American Asphalt Producers of America would not enjoin with this idea and fought against it. Thus we have this present massive issue.

  • How many more tires were dumped _without_ permits since then? It seems like it would have been a handy place to hide a few illegal dumps, especially when the tires already there were relatively new.

  • You know I remember hearing about this story when I lived on base in Alabama back in the 80s as a child. And I have the same thought than as I do now that, "This stupid it's going to pollute the water. They know what they're doing they're just trying to get rid of trash." I'm just as a pulse then as I am now the only difference is is 40 years. °~•.☆.•~°

  • After Bob got out of prison, he started his legal tire recycling business, where he warehoused them at $1 or $2 each for those he could not resell, then stacked them to the rafters, then closed the business, and started another. The owner of his former rental, would have to hire his new business, to remove the tires. So, the more tires he got, the more he got to move them again. At the end, third world countries eventually found they could make houses out of tire walls, so, he sent most overseas for a few more bucks. But at that point, it was no longer profitable, and he started other businesses. Most of his business, was formerly from handling tires 3 times or more.
