Nutrition Tier Lists: Fruits
Fruit. Back before there was candy and artificial sweeteners, there was fruit. Back before there was sin, there was fruit. Somewhere down the line, someone decided that this was the tastiest part of the tree, and it has been a staple of mankind's diet ever since. Some people will swear to you that fruits are a collection of the healthiest foods on Earth. Some will say it's the secret to living a longer life. It's time to take a take a deeper dive into Mother Nature's wonderous treat to find out if she's really been feeding us right. Do fruits really contain the nectar of the Gods, or are they the least essential part of a balanced meal plan? Let's find out.
What I Would Change:
Those are specifically Dried Dates and Figs in the video. I failed to mention this due to how few times I have ever seen them eaten not dried.

Yes, a Fruit Tier List Part 2 is happening. Leave which fruits I missed here and I'll cover them then!
Dragonfruit is one you could do for part 2, also starfruit
Hm... I'm curious about dragonfruit, lychee, and durian.
Chayote and granadilla maybe? (hope I spelled it right)

I want a supplement tier list ❤
So I have changed my entire diet based on this series. No joke, I’ve become hyperfixated on it and regularly tell my wife what tier my lunch was.
I think I'll do the same.
Me too! Way more mindful of the stuff I buy and cook for us, and I love telling my husband what tier foods we're eating at supper, and what tier foods I fed the babies throughout the day.
Same lol. I’ve been eating so healthy and actually feel a lot better than before :‘)

That's kinda funny. Because bananas are my go to "Have a fruit" when I give it to someone.
There’re literally nothing better than fruits, they’re so incredibly tasty yet unlike other tasty treats they’re so healthy, it’s truly a blessing that they exist
Right! It’s like a healthy desert
You could take the S tier foods from each of your videos and create the ultimate meal plan for a 2000 calorie diet. Keep up the good work, videos are awesome!
🤔 u right
diversity is really important too, take all A and S tier on all lists and make meal with them. The worth thing u can do is eating the same thing every day, for ure mental health and for the lack of some special elements. But hey, it's all better than fast food and industrial meal 💪💪.

It would be great if you made a video about protein in general. Perhaps discussing things like different sources (plant vs meat), daily values, protein synthesis, etc

All cereals are likely to be in the F tier, with a few exception that could be bumped up into the D tier.

How about a sweeteners tier list, perhaps in terms of what is least worst? Maple Syrup, Honey, Various Sugars and Molasses etc Might be a short one but I think sweeteners have their place as they help to make a lot of healthy foods more palatable.
Chocolate syrup in F lol
Another odd tier list. Your maple syrup and honey are obviously the best route to go considering they come from natural sources and contain some trace amounts of micronutrients but they’re extremely easy to over-consume due to the small serving size so at that point sugar is sugar. 🤷🏻♂️

the most shocking part is realizing that the pumpkin - zuccini family is considered as fruits. In Korea we often see it in the vegetable section
Tomatoes are also fruits. But nobody considers them as such because they are not as sweet.
They're in the vegetable section here in Australia as well! I think I did a double take when they showed up here haha

Could you make a mushroom nutrition tier list. I’m starting to eat them and I want to know what’s most healthy

You should do a tier list video on sugars/sweeteners like white sugar, brown sugar, cane sugar, stevia, erythritol, aspartame, and so on. Great video by the way!.
I understand it sounds like such a cool idea but I’ll keep it simple for you. All sugars that hold a caloric value are in the F tier. The other sweeteners that hold no caloric value are also in the F tier. None of them contain any micronutrients. Easy 🤝🏼
These tier lists made it really easy for me to lose 40 pounds, (I'm at 5'8 160 now) just by eating only healthy food, I got so much more energy throughout the day now and I never feel hungry.
Great video and very informative! Seems like most of my favorites were at the top!
These videos are greatly appreciated!
how did banana go from S tier in the old video to B tier in this one
INCONSISTENT LORE
Because it is *B* anana
Still with a decent micronutrient profile and no notable downsides
That star rating never made sense to me. Banana doesn't add much in terms of anti-oxidants and other phytosterols which are the compounds that make the healthiest fruit shine. It's relatively high in fast carbs, especially when (over) ripe. The B-tier makes sense (though it could also land on C): a lot healthier than a lot of foods people eat, but not your absolute healthiest fruit choice.
@@daredevil6145 COCONUT WAS CHANGED FROM C TIER TO B.
i would argue that watermelon is just edible water with some extras. it's very common here to eat lots of it in summer. i don't know if it's really hydrating, but at least it feels very refreshing :)
you say it's water, then why wouldn't it be hydrating 😂
@@dolandarkerest761 i just mean based on how much you would realistically eat vs. how much water you need on a sunny day
I would counter with that watermelon good for vasodilation and similar to iceberg lettuce which is mostly water too but very high in nitrates so both good for circulation.
HE CHANGED WATERMELON FROM D TIER TO B. FROM ORIGINAL FRUITS VIDEO FYI
I've juiced watermelons (after shaving off skin) and you get generally 1.2 to 2 gallons of watermelon juice depending on size. You also get very little refuse after juicing a watermelon so they're basically 99% water. IMO very hydrating.
So happy to have found this series! Had been trying to find this sort of data myself, but without knowing much about it being able to tier it would have been extremely time-consuming. I also have two questions/suggestions - it could be worth mentioning the affect of cooking on nutritional content of things like fruits and veggies. Plus a video on spices! This may be too time-consuming, but it would be cool to see something similar to MyPlate, but more in depth/based on nutritional content rather than just x amount of fruits and veggies. For example, unlikely as this is, if someone preferred eating carrots and pumpkin as their primary fruit and veggie every week, it wouldn't be very balanced, despite both those foods being very healthy and technically covering two different food groups according to MyPlate.
Awesome video can’t put into words how much this helps,👍
The main thing I take away from these videos is how important variety is. I can get a lot of vitamin C from my citrus family, but also lycopene from tomatoes and watermelon, and melatonin from things like grapes, plus a lot of antioxidants from berries. Mix and match. I look at the list to try and get ideas for which foods I haven't had in a while that I should try and shop for or incorporate more frequently in my diet, with an emphasis on higher tiers but an occasional glance at the lower ones too.
Or just eat truly in season. That's really how our bodies evolved.
I have a main grocery list that is the base of my diet, but I also have a wheel that randomly picks fruits/veggies so that I incorporate a wide variety into my diet
Blueberries, they're based af and help me lose weight tremendously when cutting, A tier only because I can't imagine they're too nutritious
LMAO BLUEBERRIES ARE THE SHIT
💯Blueberries, blackberries and raspberries are my top 3
THEY MADE IT TO S TEIR LET'S GOOOO
Strawberries and blueberries are a match made in Heaven since the Strawberries supply a high amount of Vitamin C while Blueberries supply higher amounts of antioxidants 😊
I don’t agree with all your ratings but the explained facts really help
Many of the A-tier items are not really a food as such. No one can eat a bowl of raw cranberries, lemon or lime. But many of the B-tier items like bananas, oranges or watermelons can be eaten loads of at one time. So, in order to get the health benefits, I would say that some lesser fruit are superior, like bananas or mango, because they are not so hard to eat just like that. The tiers are not as important in the end as the "simple eatability" of the fruit.
i posted the differences to old video in a comment here
This is the correct take. I eat tons of bananas but won't be able to match half of it with lemons.
You can eat a bowl of cranberries ... dried at least
You can certainly eat a bowl of most fruits. It's just more affordable to eat a lot of bananas.
dried cranberries contain lots of added sugar, real cranberries taste verry bitter@@t.c.4321

THE GOAT HAS DROPPED A BANGER ONCE AGAIN
Very cool. I personally always thought apples and citrus fruits are top tier but they are just average in the fruit world. But I was most surprised by Pumpkin offering this much.
same here, i thought apple would be the S or A tier because of the old saying “eat an apple daily and you won’t need a doctor”
This was great and easy to digest, I'm gonna start trying buying some of these frozen to make smoothies to pack some of the nutrients in, they usually spoil too quickly.
My son and I love fruits! This list was definitely eye opening!
I believe natural sugars should be viewed differently from processed sugar. A fruit with a higher sugar content is essentially a supercharged fruit with an abundance of energy to fuel the body. If anything, and as an example, the date should be at the top of the list as it has an abundant nutrient profile including (natural) sugars. Sugar is a nutrient.
Exactly! Very well said 😌🙏
Damn right fruit sugar is good for you. Nwah's be thinking fructose is bad for them. Fructose is only bad for you if you are trying to limit your weight. If you are worried about being fat have a smoothie or fresh fruit with plenty of fiber. I've never met someone in my life who got fat off of fruit.
All the sugar eaten is natural sugar that has been processed. The moment you dry a fruit, you process the natural product into a more dense, consumable form. That's why dates are low on the list - they give lots of sugar with mediocre amounts of nutrients for the sugar content.
@themonsoon117 The comparisons are not the same. It's like saying tomato sauce and sundried tomato are of a similar quality when in fact they are entirely different. This video has made comparison based on overall nutrient profile and the levels of any given nutrient. The dates is a great performer in all categories and is outstanding in natural sugar. The video concurred that high natural sugars are problematic for many people so therefore the date was considered lower on the scale. This is false and if followed with the original essence of the video the date would be top tier without exception.
@@airrunner85 I developed a sensitivity to all sugars but fructose. I get migraines from too much sugar. I have to make sure I eat enough so I don't get a headache from that either but I'll tell you fructose is much safer. If you eat a bunch of fructose it doesn't leave you feeling dead like cane sugar and corn syrup. And when you are craving sugar your body desires fruit not Snickers.

They make you constipated though :(
@@AcidLightning i'd say if there's any effect it's the opposite. but with one banana a day it's rather noexistent.
@@EasyGameEh Not in my experience. My doctor told me it's the one fruit that doesn't help with "releasing"... But maybe they are misinformed?
@@AcidLightning i'm guessing that there're two major factors. first, if the banana is ripe enough - there is some fermentation going on that breaks down starches and getting the banana from green to yellow. second, the amount of fiber you get. so maybe if you eat alot and/or you eat greenish bananas then they can lead to constipation. plus, your individual microbiom (not literally yours, but of a person) may be the culprit so to speak.

Didn't know that Zucchinis, Olives and Pumpkins are fruits 👀. Great Video, keep up the great work! I wish we learned about nutrition in school because it has such a big impact on our health and performance.
There's always that difficulty with some items being a culinary vegetable but a biological fruit. Take zucchinis, they have the seeds in them, they are obviously fruits. But regarding how they are prepared for meals, they are treated like a vegetable. Culinary wise usually things have to taste "sweet" to be considered a fruit.
