  • I love my Prelude. They are also sorta high maintenance, I've put about 4-5k into the car to make sure if doesn't leak anything. That also included a transmission rebuild cause going into first and second was tough. But now that it's ok it's a Honda, she'll never let you down. It's a shame that they stopped production cause I'd love to see a 6th gen prelude. But if they don't I'll be happy with my 1997

  • I've had 5 4th gens in my life, and by far they're my favorite car I've ever owned. The first time I ever swapped an engine was my first one. I took a h23 from a gfs wrecked car and made a franken-build engine to replace my base f22. Had both cars side by side in my buddies 2 car garage, and did the whole swap with a jack, hoist, and only hand tools. The only thing I couldn't do meself was get it timed, but after an hour at the local import shop down the road it was complete! My last one had 4ws swap, and a JDM h22a bored and built, cheaply I might add. That monster would peak near 9 grand before red lining. It was a beast of a Honda. I drive a MazdaSpeed6 now, but I think of my 'Ludes every day

Been daily driving it for almost 20 yrs and while the paint is faded and she's not fast by today's standards, she's still fun in the corners and puts a smile on my face. Except for the leaky trunk, oil burning, and rickety shocks, she's been reliable and running on almost all factory original parts (beyond consumables). Even the AC still blows cold with the original compressor and freon.

  • I love my manual transmission red 5th gen 99 Honda Prelude. I bought it about 2 years ago with about 165k miles on it. It has 170k miles on it right now. Almost completely stock, only thing I've done is change the interior & license plate lights to LEDs. Swapped out the stock radio to a almost button-less clean looking Pioneer touch screen unit while snaking a discreet microphone for Bluetooth calls behind the dash, cluster/A pillar, ceiling, and added the SH trim stock spoiler. I want to replace the oxidized headlights with the same stock ones & put in white HIDs and paint the side & back skirts to make it look like the SH trim and be done with the car. If I could splurge, I'd paint the whole thing black. It'll look just like the SH without all the problems the 4-wheel steering had. When I purchased the car, yes I had to replace the timing belt, it was split in half long ways. Yes, the paint fades. I can tell that whoever had it before did a cheap paint job due to clear coat fading on a fender, the roof, side view mirrors, door handles, & trunk, and everywhere else looking good, but chipping away, meaning a recent, but cheap paint job. Oh, and those H22A engines burn oil quite a bit, and I changed out all the gaskets and seals. Last thing to warn everyone; with the manual transmissions, the synchro gears have known issues and will grind at high RPMs. Mine does it between going from any gear at a high RPM to 5th gear. Still love the car. Apparently its a known defect that I've seen on forums happen to with only 20k miles on it so its best just to live with it.

  • I Love your guys' channel. I have a 4th gen Prelude Si Automatic. I immediately switched the transmission fluid to Amsoil Signature Series when I got the car at 84k miles and it totally started driving like new. Put 28k miles on the fluid then just changed it at 112k miles. It runs even better than the first time I changed it! I think the problem is that most people don't pay attention to transmission maintenance. Punching the gas in an automatic is definitely considered by the manufacturer to be "Heavy Duty" use. There is a "Heavy Duty maintenance schedule" for almost every vehicle. The mileage intervals for service for "heavy duty use" are super short. About 1/3 of the miles between fluid changes. If people would change their fluid every 10k miles there wouldn't be any issues at all.
