These cars are a steal. They blow away a lot of new cars with all it’s features, and that 3UZ V8 is just something special. For the money, there isn’t much that can compare.
100% a steal 🤑 amazing cars.. cool, fun to drive, and so many features & quirks
Love the UZ series engine... but I still have nightmares about replacing the starter motor in my 1UZ-FE Soarer back in the day. Fuck me that was a horrible weekend. Funny enough the timing belt was a breeze though.
Just snagged one of these for $6000 at a repo auction. White, low ks, good condition. Stoked as 😎👍 These cars are the real deal. Definitely worth picking them up while they are cheap!
That’s cheap! Good price
Everything Toyota had in Japan is high quality and high tech and super reliable. Love these old school Toyota's guessing in the 7s 0-100
You nailed the guess! And in the wet I reckon that’s good! The Toyota quality is so noticeable in this car, just on how well it drives 👌
@@RossReviewsau but for a small capacity v8 it punches above its weight ! And quick for a uber black vehicle indeed
Toyota/Lexus were doing things in the early nineties that most other manufacturers hadn't even dreamed of, such as full touch screen that controlled sound, aircon/climate control, traction control, ride height from the full airbag electronic controlled suspension, and much more. Most other carmakers were like "what's traction control?", "what's a touch screen?" The Japanese were refining and redefining what car making should be.
they were so ahead of the game eh
Same goes with the other JDM cars introducing some of the autonomous safety tech, lane keep assist by Nissan, Honda with autonomous braking etc... theres something special about these JDM vehicles in general. My dad currently owns a Nissan Elgrand from 2006 and it has better features than my dads previous Mondeo and our Landcruiser Prado both from 2012, though both are still great cars.
@@ffabcd5091 It just makes you wonder why the Japanese were able to introduce all of those features, and the other manufacturers were either not capable of doing those things, or just didn't think enough of their customers. Look at what features the rest of them had in the late eighties and early nineties, they just don't compare with what the Japanese had to offer.
@@zwastiunburzy3688 to be fair the biggest problem with the japanese companies that they kept these features only in japan only until recently.I Guess these features will make their cars too expensive outside which wont make them attractive to buy. Lexus in its early days especially was the closest you can get to a JDM luxury car in terms of features, though some of the JDM Toyotas blow them away not forgetting to mention the others.
@@ffabcd5091 That's true. In Australia, when the '91 Toyota Soarer (or Lexus SC400) was imported by a very few entrepreneurs, they sold for around the 90k mark. The GT Limited, anyway. By the time I got one in 2002, I paid 10k. Big difference. I guess the car companies that manufactured in Australia wanted to keep the cars affordable.
One of your best reviews Rosscoe really enjoyed it.I want one of these cars now
Glad you enjoyed it
Got one of these, with the aftermarket suspension control and some deep dis staggered 19s, C type, leather, fridge, etc ridiculous- it's bliss to drive 🚗👌
love them eh! look so good with a nice set of wheels
I had a 70's Crown Deluxe, 2 Dr fast back, straight 2600 6, 4 speed. Love doing 4 wheel drifts, and Mom loved it too!
gotta love em eh haha
A very high quality car. I feel that the build quality is probably better than the German brands.
100% agree..
🤝🏼🗿
It is better than the Germans, all the techs in those Toyota cars bck then.germans are now having those techs
Always has, always will be
Good review 👍. I love using my 186 as a daily on after market bags with radar cruise control and a gzg50 as a weekend ride. It's amazing the technology the had back then. It's a shame about the dash issues though.
The dash is sad 😅 but can be repaired.. great cars all up I’d love one as a daily
what aftermarket bags did you go for hoss?
Haha great viddy! Never knew the Majesta got the passenger foot stool hole thingy. Now that’s a massive selling point
how good is that feature eh!
But take your shoes off before putting your feet on the seat, it's a Japanese car after all. No Japanese passenger would put their feet on the seat with shoes on.
Drives smooth as butter man,not bad at all must be special seeing you'd like to buy it,Toyota cars are also known for their reliability, top vid thanks Johnny.
It’s really nice I’d trade the Malibu in on one
I remember being in a mates 80s model Crown & thinking this thing goes alright but I didn’t know they kept making them 😮. Plenty of grunt as well mate 💪🇦🇺🍻👍
Still making them today! They are so nice!
I love the honest of this review, my grandPa had one.✌
Thanks mate! Pride myself on a honest review 👍
Great review! If you are ever in Tassie you can review my 204 Crown Hybrid. Quicker than the V8 and turbo Crowns.
Very nice cheers mate would love that
If you ever buy one of these awesome vehicles get the naviplus fitted to replace all Japanese audio system. I did that to my s200 majesta 2010 that I bought recently from Van West in dianella area.cost me $1200 .worth every dollar. This dealer got few nice crowns.very good people to deal with.
They offer it remotely to international people?
i recently bought the crown athlete 07 one. the 3.5L v6 version. im realy happy with it
Awesome cars!
I hope I can get that exact model in that condition before they go extinct or get realy expensive, its one of my dream cars.
Love the review. I have the same S186 Crown Majesta in the same colour with cream cloth seats and interior. So happy with the car, definite step up from Holden/Ford in build quality and refinement. Handles like a boat with the air suspension but I kinda like that, it’s supposed to be a luxury car after all. Great value for the money especially for a big car with a V8.
its an amazing value car and really does ride like a dream..
the 0-40 was bad, but what's impressive is it's rolling performance on that test. It climbed from there into the 100s with ease
And that was mainly due to the rain’! It’s decently quick!
i own a GRS204 Athlete. You should really do a review on one. It will really impress you just how quick they are for a V6 and it's quicker than the S180 you just reviewed.
I have a 2008 GRS204. Good taste
Do you know if the 3L version is any good?
@@nzmarco It's decent, but not as good as the 2GR models (3.5)
@@ollie786 Thanks. Weighing up both. Don’t know if a big difference in fuel economy exists although there is a hybrid version also.
@@nzmarco Get the hybrid, but set aside a few thousand to replace the battery for when it needs a replacement. The hybrid is a better car in just about every way.
There is an outfit in Christchurch NZ that convert the ICS systems to English - not sure if they do the Crown but I got them to do my GS460 - I just pulled the unit, removed the HDD and posted it to them, they did their magic and posted it back, plugged it back in - & all of a sudden English! (also allows you to select a number of other languages like Spanish, French and German) Wasn't very expensive either. Also they provided super high quality stickers to put over the physical buttons.
im sure there are some places that can offer something like that.. my old V35 had a english translation that you could buy
Liked and subscribed, great review , what a rad car, I want one.
Thanks for the sub!
Great videos bro 🤘🤘🤘 keep it coming 💯💯💯❤
More on the way mate🤘
@@RossReviewsau tbh never looked at these cars ever till I seen your reviews.....Magic bro 👍👍👍💯💯💯❤
@@AliAli-vc2fj well worth a look :)
Great video! Should check out the v6 athlete from the same series,, much quicker than the v8. Would love to see your opinion mate!
im looking for one! they are very cool
I just bought s200 2010 majesta.will pick it up i few days. Very excited to have one.upmarket quality. Way better than my camry. I wish to use the car for uber One day.but it doesn't have the 5 star ancap rating for some reason .diffently more value for money .
if you got the extra cash a S200 is the better car
Great review Jono, this thing would look alright slammed with a nice set of big wheels! Keep up the great work...
they look really good lowered with wheels!
Nice review Ross! I would love to see you review a Toyota Blade Master. It would be the first proper English review - there a few in WA I think. I'm waiting for mine to be registered in NSW.
thanks mate.. if you know of any please ask if they are interested i would love to review one :)
I have a used one with 150k km on it and its been 3 years running smoothly without any big issue.
They are a fantastic car
thanks man! im looking at buying a Crown now actually :)
Good choice
I have the supercharged Modellista version of this. Same colour as yours, only with leather. It's a lot of car for the money. More torque-y than powerful, but very smooth and quiet. With new tyres mine did 0-100kph in about 5 secs, but there's more drop-off as the tyres age than I've had with lighter cars.
wow you have a supercharged one very cool.. they did make some from factory but a very rare option! love the crowns
Where did you find a Modellista version?
@@user-xz5xh2hc5c Private import from Japan. It took about 8 months for one to show up at auction as they're a rare beast even over there.
@@carl4889 What sort of fuel consumption are you getting with yours if I may ask? I've got a supercharged modellista majesta on the way shortly to me in the UK, want to know the damage ill be doing to my wallet lol.
@@TheLEGOguy1212 Better that you might think. It has a lot of torque, so you can get up to speed quickly then lift-and-coast. Driven that way it uses less gas than a lot of 4-cylinder engines. Of course, if you're planning on motorway driving it, it'll be a lot worse.
Just brought myself the next shape up(S200). Can't wait for it to get on the boat. I think toyota really missed the boat during the day considering the v8 falcons and commodores we had. Toyota could of cleaned up!
they would have sold well anywhere in the world!! but they decided to keep them almost exclusively sold only in japan
This is like the one that turned up at the subscriber meet a while ago? I was so impressed with that car.
the very same one! haha
Automatic sunshades! Ive always been amazed that au car makers didnt have such things and solar powered air reticulation while parked. No brained for hot aussie summers
would have made total sense here eh
Hey Ross can you review a Holden vs Calais or Clubsport?, would really appreciate it👍
On the hunt mate! If you know anyone tell them to contact me
If you're lucky you will find one with adaptive cruise control (~40-100km/h) and even hud night vision. Compare to the urs206 the general keeping cost is lower but it might be difficult to find some parts.
Got the HUD on my 05 Majesta works any time of day.
I always wanted to get an older square body Toyota Crown back in the day but ended up getting a 1984 ZK Fairlane & dropped an Avgas fueled 351 Windsor C4 & custom coil sprung 9 inch diff into it as I had a dodgy importer that tried to scam me‼ Imagine if I had put that driveline into a Toyota Crown, would have been 🔥🙌🎫📸‼
that sounds very interesting eh! haha
I have S180 Toyota Crown Majesta and absolutely love it. The time for 0-100 was pretty bad and I think that's due to you being in the wet. My one glides to 100 in around 6 seconds mark. You missed out on some of the features i.e Adaptive Front lighting system, Air purifier, roof mounter aircon vents for rear seats, Fridge for the drinks (boss coffee in Japan), entertainment system has HDD in Series II (06-08 if am not mistaken). So basically it can store your audio CD. S200 Crowns like GRS204 I have comes in G package which has some additional cool features like soft close doors, side camera etc
i did cover a few of those things you mentioned ;) but yeh i agree easily a 6 second car on a dry day! its an amazing car.. well worth the money
@@RossReviewsau Athlete next,If you are heading down to Victoria can give you all three Crowns :)
Hey mate, you should try track down one of the earlier crowns, like a JZS171, especially the wagon. I’ve got one and I’d love to hear thought thoughts on it
I’m going to review a 1JZ crown soon just had some one out there hand up.
@@RossReviewsau That's awesome! There's not enough videos on them online so I'm super keen
@@ollie786 coming soon lets hope!
I've got one of those, an Athlete Estate, standard 2.5 non-turbo. Performance is adequate but ride and presence are great.
Great video, Ross. Can't beat Toyota reliability.
Thanks mate agreed
Saw one just yesterday big car
yup just like a falcon or commo
I couldn't stop looking at the loose trim on the front passenger side of the dash lol. Would definitely make a great Uber vehicle!
Yeh was a shame it had that bit of damage on the dash.. was so nice to drive tho!
Yeah it’s common on these S186 Majesta for the interior trim to come off and the dash to crack. I believe there was a class action against Toyota for the dash issues. Apparently you can arrange the dash to be changed out in Japan if you import one.
@@hanskinsella5078 yeah my Jeep SRT has a similar problem with the carbon fibre interior trim coming loose '- very common problem with Jeep SRT. That's why I couldn't stop looking at the crown trim peeling lol
Wasnt that quick but felt really quick and smooth
its decent.. great daily cruiser
this car is cool.. would love one
It’s great
Why on earth would you launch an aging luxury saloon? Ahhh yes, because you can. I like this attitude. And 7s to 100kmh in the wet is not bad at all. Truly a great car inside and out.
We do it because we can 😏😂😂
In the dry it will do a 5.9 to 100kmh
What version should you go for??? S180 or S186??? Honest answer please
I've been looking at importing one to Canada. Can the nav be replaced with a newer double DIN? Or will it lose all of the climate controls for the front?
im not sure to be honest.. i would imagine you could get software to translate but not 100%
I'll subscribe if you do a review on a wm Caprice six litre, I personally have a 2008 Wm Caprice, have had delete kit and vcm532 cam installed making 300kw at the rear. Review one even if it's stock and I'll subscribe. Been watching your reviews for awhile now and really like what you do, keep it up mate 👍🇦🇺🍻
ill do my best to find one mate!
I can't touch the car screen in this model s180 /2006 can you help me?
Nice. Did they do a wagon. Or 4wd?
there was a wagon i think in the earlier athlete cars.. & you could option these as 4 wheel drive
How can i check majesta is 2WD or 4WD on frame number?
After 2009 they upgraded the power to 260kw with 8 spd gearbox.
nice! i really like these
Are spareparts available in Australia? How to find the right mechanics for maintenance?
There are more and more cars here so should be easier over time to get parts but you may have to get them from Japan sometimes & that is expensive
I love these but I went FG N/a instead mainly because I can easily and cheaply modify it into a fast weapon. Sadly Like most v8s they just aren’t easy to get more power out of. Damn these are cheap though, I’m NZ they are cheaper
Looking at these back seats I’m having huge regrets at my decision
cant go wrong with a FG or a Crown in my mind.. them back seats tho eh haha.. epic
My mate legit bought one because of this video
Does he like it? 😅
@@RossReviewsau yeah, but he purchased a bit of a fixer upper. The V8 is great at a green light lol.
Would love one, sadly, I need to transport a big stinking doggo about, so the wagon variant is needed, and they are as rare to find as a 140,000km Alloytec without a stretched timing chain 🤣🤣
I like the juxtaposition between all that luxury and the can of Red Bull...
gotta have my wings
wow man i had to subscribe right away
Thanks brother 🤘🙏
Great car... there are very few aftermarket stereo head unit options. If you have the premium sound option, you are stuck with the japanese writing as the climate control is built in...
they are amazing cars eh.. just that head unit eh.. gotta love with not being able to use it or... just learn japanese haha
Saw these advertised a couple of months ago at some yard in Kenwick. Problem is I have an SUV, a Ute and a Bike. Maybe sell the old Ute and get another V8 ??
to many toys! haha
Any way to converse the Japanese language to English? Does it have snow mode for AWD?
I did, I love it.
great car!
Can it run on 91 ron?
Beautiful car. It really sucks they wont' be selling any in the USA.
25 year rule 🥲
I literally brought an s200 based on your review! Shits all over my BA XR8 and I honestly probably won't go back. Toyota are one best car manufacturing companies for a reason, would LOVE to see an Athlete review.
Glad I could help you make the deal! They are fantastic eh! I’m planning on reviewing a 1JZ crown soon 😍🔥
Would go sub 6 on dry day with driver input to the auto.
i reckon for sure
Canadians are watching. All 2009's can be imported now in 2024. Except for Quebec thats still 25 years like the USA..
Should have sold these here as Aurions and piss of the Aurion model we got, would feel ike a real upgrade then.
that would have been great eh!
Well, that would be more expensive than a fully loaded Land Cruiser. The market is really small and the sales would not justify the cost.
Iv got 1 best car ever. And iv had a jzx100 r32 etc.. majesta just the best bang for buck and style
please review toyota century
I have mate! Look it up on my channel 😈
@@RossReviewsau ok tq 😎
The only problem is the air suspension in Australia to fix it I think it will cost more than the car price
possibly im not an expert on that sorry
Okay okay Cool cool but how to I get one in the us and how much would it cost
can only import if 25 years old in the US :(
So here is the question due to 4.3 verse 4.6 and the gearbox difference , is there a massive difference in performance , looking at the S200 would prefer the AWD cause i am in Japan but the hp of the 4.6 is so tempting over the AWD which only got the 4.3
im sorry i can't really say as ive only driven the RWD one.. i would say the difference would be minimal tho
The 4.6 is in a higher tax bracket than the 4.3.
Please do a mark x 350s
if i can find one i will!
It's ok, I would prefer a Caprice from that era for this market class.
still yet to review one so ill have to wait and see how they go
Love that crazy Aussie accent
cheers mate lol
Toyota has being putting things and making better cars that all of the autos out there.there techs in these abd the century even in the markx 2008 were u let go of the steering wheel and it park its self..in 2015 the germans came out with it
Cool! It is just so COOL!!!!!
One minute in mate, whats with the driving position?
what you mean>?
@@RossReviewsau Some of the shots you looked really perched, not a good driving position lol
Review a jzs171 athlete v
just filmed one ;) coming soon
where did you review this
O’Brien rd
Can any Crown owners comment on the user experience using the Japanese infotainment unit? Is it hard to get used to with the Japanese symbols/writing?
I have 2 Crowns and you will get used to the symbols. You won’t use everything as they don’t work, but the most of them do like the airconditioning, radio/audio settings, fuel economy, phone book and many more
It is p plate approved in nsw
Cheers for the info
Does that vehicle have control arm issues?
Didn’t have any issues
AU g 🤙
This weekend
too sad it doesnt have the old crown emblems, that was the cooles part of crowns
🥲
looks like a nice hyundia.
? hyundai lol
@@RossReviewsau yeh a hyundai grandeur/sonata lol maybe early mid 2000s
Was the Toyota crown luxury in side
Very nice 👍
It would be very nice for its age
If i buy one i will need to hire a driver while i lounge in the back, shades up, getting a massage and drinking a few cold 1's 🤙🏼🤙🏼
i know right! need to be chilling in the back!
Love the accent lol
I thought what would your wife's expression be on her face, when the kids find out about the fold down front seats from the rear seat. I'm sure they wont be able to resist putting their feet through.
HAHA she loves crowns.. here fav car actually lol
How is this car compared to Toyota aurion?
Way way way nicer
What a car, Just want to stay in the back seat, Have all you need.
For the money it’s a total steel I think.. really cool car
For anyone having a late night scroll through the comments.. I’ve currently got one for sale in New Zealand modified. Please inquire if you’re interested!
Unfortunately we in the US have to wait until 2032 to import one of these.
Such a shame
@RossReviewsau to clarify my previous comment, 2032 based upon a 2007 model year. 25 year import law, 15 for Canada
how come your accent doesent sound australian?
Canadian born but Aussie at heart ❤️ 🇦🇺😏
How much are they
15-20k at the moment in Aus
@@RossReviewsau wow that’s expensive here in NZ they between 9k to 12k
Think of a Toyota Majesta as a Japanese Mercedes, except unlike a Mercedes, it’s reliable.
Yup spot on
I'm buying 1 for 16k Australia
nice one! they are a great car
Never seen one to be honest
there are a few around now..
It ain't a USZ186 unless its got a fucked dash
HAHA true that
