Metal Gear is a series of action-adventure stealth video games created by Hideo Kojima and developed and published by Konami. The first game, Metal Gear, was released in 1987 for MSX home computers. The player often takes control of a special forces operative (usually Solid Snake or Big Boss), who is assigned the task of finding the titular superweapon "Metal Gear", a bipedal walking tank with the ability to launch nuclear weapons.
Several sequels have been released for multiple consoles, which have expanded the original game's plot, adding characters opposing and supporting Snake, while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of Metal Gear and recurring characters. The third game in the series, Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation, marked the beginning of a whole new line of 3D for Metal Gear. As of March 2018, over 53.8 million copies of games in the franchise have been sold worldwide, with individual installments critically and commercially acclaimed and receiving several awards.
The series is credited for pioneering and popularizing stealth video games and "cinematic video games". Notable traits of the series include stealth mechanics, cinematic cutscenes, intricate storylines, offbeat and fourth wall humour, and exploration of cyberpunk, dystopian, political and philosophical themes, with references to Hollywood films to add flavor. The franchise has also been adapted into other media, such as comics, novels, and drama CDs. Solid Snake also appeared as a guest character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

  • As much as I love him, I hate when Kojima tries to distance the franchise from Rising. When Kojima tries to cast this game as a spin off or non-canon, it just comes off as he is just mad his team wasn't competent enough to finish the game, all they had was a watermelon slicing simulator, and had to let Platinum take over and actually finish the game. This game was incredible, it was Metal Gear turned up to 11, and Platinum didn't take like 6 fucking years to make it.

      @Who_is_Ari@Who_is_Ari3 жыл бұрын
    • Nah I'm glad he does, as much as I fucking love Rising as a game and pre-ordered it as soon as I could, it absolutely ruins the Metal Gear series as it was and destroys Raidens character at the end reverting him aaaaalll the way back to the start where he is just taking everyone else's reasons to fight and trying to make them his own which was his biggest character flaw that he over came IN HIS FIRST GAME! I'm fine with this being it's own timeline and I would still be extremely excited for a MGR2 if it ever gets considered, but as a continuation from MGS4 eeeeehhh No thanks, I would rather it stay more relatively grounded and be more of a stealth action game series based on that rather then the amazing action that MGR:R is and for Raiden to actually develop on his own rather then just being a reset of his character as a whole.

  • I just realized the speed of those railguns in MGS... A Railgun round goes at a speed of 62 Miles Per Second which is 223,200 MPH. The Space Shuttle achieved a max launch speed of 18,000 MPH. Mean while the Earth in it's orbit around the sun cruises at 67,000 MPH. That means someone with Raiden's reaction and reflex time must be able to anticipate the eventual "line of death" a railgun will create from the muzzle when fired, more than dodging the round itself. That is insanely fast decision calculation.

  • There’s a couple of things that I need to point out in Raiden's fight against metal gear Ray, Standard metal gear rays are about 60ms tall and 750 tonnes, the one Raiden fought was custom body fitted with Carbon nanotubing, thus making it far lighter and faster than its original version, though this would allow the MG to carry a lot more ammunition than its counterpart as well thus bringing the weight to 750 tonnes minimum (could carry more weight potentially), this ultimately means that when overclocked, Raiden can lock blades with a MGR and then suplex it dozens of metres into the air. Also as Sundowner stated: He was surprised on how fast the MGR was defeated as he only expected he would have a minute at best, meaning that in Raidens base form (before upgrades and without JTR personality) took down a MGR in 30 seconds after the fight began

    • Kojima also has said that The Twin Snakes is actually what was supposed to be, they were only held back by PS1's technical limitations. Kojima always wanted the crazy over-the-top action scenes but that wasn't possible at the time, that might be the only reason TTS was ever actually made. When TTS was under development, Ryuhei Kitamura started to recreate the cinematic scenes from MGS1, but Kojima asked him to do them in his signature, dynamic, crazy, over-the-top, Matrix-like bullet-time effects and all, style.
