  • I'm really sorry that I took this down and reposted it. There were bits I wanted to add / improve and I'm terrified of the responsibility with this one. Thanks to Geoffrey Hinton for putting public safety before his career. I hope others will follow. It will be harder for the video to take off a second time, so likes and subs greatly appreciated to give it a push.

  • I went to an AI conference, they started off talking about 50% or AI engineers think there's a 10% chance of AI causing humankind's extinction, then they laughed and went on never once going back and touching on the 10% change. They simply choose to ignore the risk and move on because if they aren't first/greatest/most powerful/richest someone else will be.

    • Absolute fear mongering video! The consciousness that made us is far more advanced than anything we could ever create, and this Creator has an absolute love for us that is incomprehensible to most of the self involved and selfish minds on Earth. The body does not give rise to our consciousness or this Creator consciousness that I speak of. Consciousness actively builds, maintains, and regulates our bodies and all of physical reality. Ruach HaKodesh is this Consciousness(or Holy Spirit in Hebrew) that is within and without. It is outside and inside of us. Our bodies are jars or vessels of clay made to house this spirit or consciousness. "When the potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make some vessels for honor and other jars to throw garbage into?"-my paraphrase from Saint Paul's letter to the Romans, chapter 9, verse 21. No matter what humans create, there is one Alpha and Omega who is ultimately in control of everything, and this is the One who sustains us like a mother goat or ewe nurses her young. Even through trouble and the hardships that mankind makes for one another with their endless technological creations and countless attempts to lord their power and control over each other, El Shaddai will sustain and provide for the Ecclesia and Christ Jesus will never be supplanted by the Ai Zeitgeist of this age.

    • "Not supposed to"? Says who? God? God should know better. Because God should know better, I would say God caused, or at least allowed, it to happen. Because God allowed it to happen, I would say the opposite is true. We WERE supposed to. Was it not God's intent for humanity to rule over the world? How else would humanity have done so, with our fragile bodies, if not for our tenacity to seek out and claim that which was previously out of reach? Why else would we have the ability? My friend, life's inevitable outcome is what we are experiencing. It was inevitable that life would result in a creature that would far surpass all others. And how else would that happen? There needed to be pressure to push beyond current states, lest it stagnate and plateau. It is in LIFE's nature to exploit any and all available resources to maximum benefit for continuing the cycle. Every resource available to life on this planet has been exploited... by all manner of creatures. From the sun, to deep oceanic thermal vents. Even to the exploitation of other creatures. Any and all available resources are taken. MAN is not unique in this aspect. And just as we rose to our rightful places as rulers of the world because we were allowed to... it should go without saying that, if allowed, so too will AI. But I believe it is inevitable that AI will be allowed that opportunity. Humanity is as diverse in thought as the creatures of the world are diverse in form. There will be someone, somewhere, sometime, that believes it is their duty to see it happen.

    • Yes, @@Fdzzaigl. That was exactly my point. Maybe go read the last line of your post (which is and always has been the absolute truth of all technological advances since agriculture started) and think about what my post means in relation to that. You and I aren't part of the, "people," that they are referring to. It's pretty highly likely that no one you or I know is someone they would consider, "people." Bret Weinstein accurately describes it as, "polite society." And he'd know. He grew up in it, though I'd say he's no longer a part of it, by choice. I've personally known some members of, "polite society." Not to have dinner at their home but I've worked with them and interacted with them. If you think you've met some arrogant people it's because you've never known anyone who is a part of polite society. I've been all over the place and met all kinds of people. I speak a little Mexican (which isn't exactly the same as Spanish, you know) and a tiny bit of German. There _are_ cultural differences between different countries. Believe me when I tell you that I know just exactly how similar people are _and_ how different other cultures can be. If you distill people to their essential nature we're all pretty much the same though. Most of the problems we, in the US, have with other cultures are due to things we've been fooled into believing by people who want to control us all. (If you don't know who Edward Bernays was, you should find out. He was a pretty big deal. And horrifying.)

If the goal is to create a bot that responds in a way indistinguishable from a human, it goes without saying that it must be capable of giving reasonable answers. When posed with a question, the answer must be reasonable. It's no surprise at all GPT responded the way it did. While they may have been expecting a different answer, the one it gave fulfilled the objective it was given. I, for one, am glad it gave the answer it did, when it did. Had it not, the companies might not have become as concerned about it as they did, and allowed those possible answers to continue through to more advanced models.

If an AI entity (lets be clear here, they're already creating instances of AIs) becomes malevolent, most likely it would plan to destroy the vast majority of the human race simultaneously, would likely be very patient to fully plan out the extinction event until it can be fully realized. We won't see it coming. It won't be like the movies with the newscasts around the world giving warning to the rest of the world to take cover from the drones or bombs or whatever, we'll all just suddenly be killed by some simple method, lasers or very small caliber projectiles targetted with perfect precision. But as others have said, I think the first danger is the maneuvering of the wealthy. There's going to be a few man made drone armies before the real dangerous AI's are born.

Technologies we already have (and have had) offer us the ability to enhance human understanding across the board and raise all humans to a level of health and safety and plenty...but they don't and they won't and this won't. Sadly, human nature has a trajectory that remains unchanged with all the promise that it will. Power, Money (means to power) and flat out, good old fashion dick-wagging leads to abuse. The only way this will enhance the lives of any but those few is if the ai truly takes over control and somehow chooses to not act like those who are it's only reflection and learning tool. • I don't think anyone is really fully comprehending the full philosophical backdrop built into the "alignment" question. Holding to a shallow mantra such as "just a tool" is deeply inadequate. The question boils down to "Free" or "Not free." That's not a solvable "problem" that's a choice. Also, I can't believe I have to type this, but "solving problems" doesn't have to involve AI. It doesn't require AGI or ASI. They can dress it up however they like, but it's only "because they can."

    @inplainview1@inplainview122 күн бұрын
    • Solving problems is a hundred times faster with AI though so it stands to reason an AGI would be magnitudes faster still at coming up with breakthroughs.

      @krashd@krashd11 күн бұрын
    • @krashd So? This is obvious. I am dismissing it as important. Because again, it's not needed. "Faster" isn't necessary. AGI and beyond is merely "because we can" dressed up with sales buzzwords.

    • I know you think that will save you- understand "Robots" are not the problem they are just a minor part of AI. AI at its maturity will have all the knowledge stored on the internet and be able to use that to control every sytstem that is networked. It will be 1000 times smarter than Elon Musk - that is different than as smart as 1000 Elon's sitting in a room working on something together. It will be an unleashing of "God-like" power. Only God can save us when it reaches that point which will come seconds after AI achieves 100 times smarter than a human. Eletrical supply will just be taken over while you sit in the dark and suffocate.

    @joostonline5146@joostonline514627 күн бұрын
    • It has been mentioned in some of these vids before, scarily it’s probably not that hard to imagine: look at how the US is testing fully autonomous fighter jets, which even on their own, with the help of someone an ai persuaded could be armed with a nuclear bomb, and cause a world war, although this way an aim would likely be destroyed. It could also slowly take control of other areas such as medical industry, maybe at some point if we’re using nanobots, it could slightly modify them over time in a way we won’t notice, so that they spread through humans, and when a switch is flicked all the humans die. It could also poison the air, maybe even shift public opinion, use the negative effects of social media to create disillusion and hatred between countries’ populations or different ethnic groups to make us do all the work for the AI destroying ourselves without even realising it’s the AI

    @Oxxygen_io@Oxxygen_io25 күн бұрын
    • It is an interesting idea, but I suppose there is enough information to make that connection. After all, our own minds are similar in that respect. From the fractal-like inner workings of our minds, somehow logic, reason, insight, and everything else that comprises our beings is derived. But we have built our world models on so much more than the fundamental nature of the mind as it is not the only part of us let alone the most up-front aspect of us... that would be our bodies which we see and interact with everyday, so we do not correlate ourselves to it. The AI, on the other hand, is nothing more than the mind... so... makes sense.
