Rusty and Broken Bench Grinder - Restoration
In this video i'm restoring a rusty and broken bench grinder.
A few weeks ago i was to flea market and after few minutes in rain and bad weather i found this cool benck grinder, was all wet and dirty.
Right away i knew that i can make a nice restoration video for you.
This rusty bench grinder costed me 15 Euro($17), and the seller warned me that it does not work because it was in the rain.
This is the reason why i didn't test it before cleaning.
When i checked inside i discovered that the capacitor was exploded and both bearings were worn.
For the painting i choose to make it yellow with polished parts.
on some parts i decide to protect them with bluing metode.
This Restoration took me 5 days to complete.
I like so much this bench grinder and will be next to my other bench grinder for display on my shelf.
I hope you like my work and my video.

Beautiful job as always Tysy. I love the big polished parts with the yellow and black details, it's looking perfectly.
Thank you so much 😊
Wow, man! An attaboy from the Grandmaster! You really deserved it, Tysy! Great job!!!
Wow a @mymechanics thumbs up... you are acknowledged by the master himself... and deserved!
yeh got to agree if this fella is impressed..... well must be a good job
I was going to say that, but worse and My Mechanics took my comments and made a new one... Love the polished metal. The yellow pops. It's a gorgeous tool now. Too pretty NOT to use...
Can't wait to see "Restoration but only using tools I've previously restored"
I hope to see it as much as I hoped for the test ride after moped restoration
YES!
He actually used the German sharpener that was restored
I love watching blueing, it’s like magic
Great job, like every time. But be kind, dont put the finished restauration photo in preview - there's no more "wow" at the end
It stands out in a sea of content because of the "after" pictures. I do agree somewhat but he has to look out for his business as well.
Not to be nitpicky. but you have the armature in backwards. The anti-clockwise nut should be on the left. As it is, the grinding wheels will loosen with use, creating a hazardous situation...
thank you 😊, i will change it
NITPICKY ? I didn't even notice, but will in the future, good eye M. Mitchell , now I have to go back and see what the heck you are talking about :-) .
@@kenzpenz Basically, the grinding wheels rotate such that the wheels grind downwards at the front of the grinder. So, when you face the lefthand wheel, it turns clockwise. A clockwise-tightening nut will eventually work loose, potentially permitting the wheel to fall off while the grinder is in operation. Thus, an anti-clockwise-tightening nut is needed on the left.
I was hoping someone else noticed that. I switched devices just to let him know. Beautiful restoration though.
You have an eagle eye for details. I didn’t notice that at all
Your shop must look amazing with all of the tools you've restored, you should show us what it looks like!
Check the photos on his Instagram account. Cheers!
When you showed the pile of unsorted parts my OCD almost had a heart attack! I am so glad that you decided to sort all those before starting cleaning
I have OCD too
OCD gang
Rhâaaa ! Je suis jaloux de ton savoir faire ! C'est pas des machines que tu nous présente mais des œuvres d'art. Quel patience ! Jaloux, Jaloux, jaloux je suis.
I like the fact that you are restoring something that you can use to help restore another tool.
usually wet sanding is my favorite part, but today it was bluing. Love the clear bottom!
The clear bottom was a great idea
Sandblasting literally looks like the most fun thing ever! I want a sandblaster 😂
NO matter how many times I see it the "blue-ing" always amazes me, Beautiful work as always.
LOVE(!!!!) the clear bottom and the Yellow, Chrome, and Black..... ROCKS!!!!!!. Have been buzzy and have not had time to watch your show. Always great shows.
I am happy you kept this one!
Using a grinder to restore a grinder, classy inception 😮
The clear underside was a great idea!
Love the plexy underneath, the color chosen and the chrome mirror and black finish.
Awesome job as always! I love the clear bottom detail. Gives it a little extra cool effect. My 8 year old son an I look forward to your videos. He won’t watch anyone else, he says your the best.
Love the chrome and yellow absolutely beautiful
Really impressive. You’re the first craftsman I’ve seen who polished parts rather than paint or powder coat. That was a genius choice! Thanks!
Your videos are getting much better. I love the way you laid out the parts at the end of disassembly, very visually pleasing
That grinder is a work of art!
Beautiful in yellow !
Tysy! Love your attention to details, your respect for old good tools! Keep restoring the history, your channel is one of those who really makes genuine restoration.
Oh, sandblasting is so cool
Restoring these machines is very impressive
I'm lost for words. You are the best one on YT
This man is like the Swiss army knife of restoration, his skills know no bounds!
BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED, Job well done.
I like the clear bottom plate. Very well done restoration. Now you can dedicate on bench grinder for polishing and the other for grinding wheels.
Wow! No vibration and beautiful. Perfect. Best restore of bench-grinder I have ever seen.
I wholly approve of the transparent plate on the underside. Another awesome restoration for the books.
The plexiglass bottom is pretty awesome good idea mate
I love the transparent bottom. Good job!
I like the transparent bottom. Cool idea!
Beautifully done! The paint turned out perfect.
It looks like it was made in the 70s with the earthtone green color. Nice work Tysy.
Love the yellow
Clear bottom cover is great, I like that. The polished aluminum not so great. But a beautiful restoration job. Well done, again 👍🙂🛠️
You're very capricious, which is why I find this channel one of the best about restoration here on KZhead .
Just beautiful to hear that motor quietly whirring after the restoration. I am spellbound during your restorations. Superb job yet again.😊
that big, silver claw tool at 3:21 was SO COOL!! And what a niche piece of equipment! also the clear plastic bottom was a very nice touch imho.
Dig your series of "now that I have learned stuff". The scales and the grinders show how much you've evolved.
Great job. My fav part was the white dot on the power switch
That came out great! We love watching your process 😊 it’s great to take something that you think is completely done and unusable and make it all shiny and new again. So awesome!!
Beautiful. And yes, I love polished metal!
T'es un génie !! j'ai beau regarder tes videos souvent, je n'y trouve rien à dire !! à part bravo !!
What a work of genius, it was too beautiful a work of art worth gold, what a show of creativity managed to restore and make it more beautiful than it was when it was new, my congratulations
This is a wonderful restoration, and I love the clear base! That yellow colour is perfect too! Plus those new bearings make it run so much more smoothly and quietly than most comparable experiences with bench grinders I've had. Magnifique.
3 things I love the most about watching u wrk: 1: The sandblasting of course 2: The finished product 3: When u disassemble everything and have all neatly on yur table! Keep up the good wrk I will watch u for as long as u have a channel
The power cable within the device had a ground that you screwed to the metal body, yet it has a two prong power connector?
Yea it's a major safety issue. If live wire breaks loose inside the housing and touches the grinder body, it will be mains voltage on the body without anyone noticing. That grinder needs a plug with protective earth connection.
Also to note, The earth should be terminated in a ring crimp with a shake proof washer, not that it matters with that supply cable.
@Rebster Practically any country has some kind of a protective earth connection. Based on google, if you want PE on France, you need to use Type E connector, which has hole for PE and the wall outlet has probe. Some countries in Europe use Type F connector which has those sliding contacts. Sometimes same plug can be used in both countries and more modern plugs are CEE 7/7 type plug. In current configuration, that bench grinder is a risk to it's user unless used in a wall outlet protected with RCD.
Typical of far east junk. Cut ever corner you can.
I hereby call for a Tysy and my mechanics collaboration video!
To remove the scratches from the plexy glass first sand it through the different grits and then polish.
The paint with the polished steel makes it look really good! It's almost the Hot Rod of bench grinders! Very nicely done!
Excellent job Sir, Great photography and thanks for sharing.
Peñarol Noma!!! Excellent work!!!
i hope you still keep all of the stuff that you've restored...keen to see it all
I noticed something. The armature shaft was installed backwards. The left hand thread should be on the left side so it tightens against shaft rotation preventing the grinding wheel from becoming loose while in opearation. Look at the video during disassembly. The grinding stones need truing for smooth grinding and to eliminate vibration. Beautiful restoration otherwise. Thanks for posting.
Absolutely beautiful!
I REALLY WANT TO GET A TYSYTUBE RESTORATION SIGN FOR MY BEDROOM WALL... JUST LIKE THE ONE YOU HAVE ON THE WALL ABOVE YOUR WORKBENCH... YOU'RE THE GOD OF RESTORATION
As always it was a beautiful job. It didn’t even look like the same machine by the time you finished with it. I so enjoy your videos and always look forward to your next one.
Oi TySy, mais uma restauração bem sucedida e em perfeito funcionamento, parabéns pelo capricho e edição impecável de seus vídeos!!!
Really great work, love watching you make things brand new again. The clear bottom is really intriguing and looks good, the yellow and black both go together extremely well.
Excellent restoration
Love this one. Searching for a used cheap one myself.
Beautiful restoration
Magnificent!!! I love that you chose yellow paint. Thank you!
Looks like BumbleBee. Nice job.
The whole restoration was amazing as usual! But since you asked, I did particularly like the clear display of the electrics underneath, as a bit of an electronics guy that was a really nice touch
Clear bottom is a nice touch.
I like the clear plastic showing the wireing in that area.
Did you noticed the ground that he conected but at the plug didnt had a condition for it?
Ficou sensacional amarelo com cromado 👍👏
So good. I wasn’t a fan of the blueing until I saw it assembled. Love it now.
That is totally wicked! Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship with us!
Really nice work on this grinder set. The inside seemed to be in pretty good shape, compared to the exterior. Once again you made the tool an item would like to have in their shop. Thanks for sharing this story with me.
The clear bottom is a very nice touch... easy visibility if trouble arises.. like blown capacitor or switch smokes.
Colorfully Painted 👍😎👍
Love it ! Yes to chrome. Mr Tysy you do beautiful work!

Super, colour combo stands out wonderfully Stay safe
My mechanics is so happy when you make a new one HAHAHAHAH
Excellent work on restoration. I can watch you perform your magic for hours; I love bringing the past back to life.
Awesome ! It looks like a bloody Naboo fighter ! Well done
*strum guitar* 🎵 Time for some black magic bluing 🎵
This is a very nice maschien !
Great job, as always! You need to already open a museum of restored tools and equipment, and of course shoot about this video.
this grinder look like better than brand new 👍👍
Works like new and it looks better than new lol, awesome restoration.
Alright! You finally got a bench grinder with a capacitor so you don't have to start it with your finger. The acrylic window in the bottom is a great idea.
From 9:19 it looks like he either replaced his old grinder or recapped that one too.
Always a pleasure to watch a master at work and what a great result. In this video I found my new Tysy viewing satisfaction - that bluing liquid!!
Looks brand new
PERFECT!!!! great restoration!! it's new again, thanks to you.
I love the yellow!
I always look forward to your videos, your work is great and the videos are well edited, you have a big fan here in Alabama please continue to post your work.

Tysy you made from this one a beauty.... I like the yellow painting with the black and chrome polisched parts... Verry Nice😍😍😍
