  • I love how gentle you are with him. Havanese can be so sensitive, so it’s lovely to see how you have built trust with him.

  • Agreed: you never rip out a mat. But you can tease a mat out. I've done it and Snowy is calm when I do it. The key is to be really gentle and move from the end of the mat inward very slowly and carefully. That's been my experience and I'm a novice.

    • I use the wire brush to get them out, then I cut the mat out in several stages and give treats. As when I get closer to the mat it pulls more near their skin so it's probably uncomfortable. But with our dog he's OK provided i do it in several cuts instead of trying to get the whole thing out in one go

  • Just wondering if a dog can bite you if I have those kinds of straps to hold his head and body. I'm thinking of buying one of those clamps thing. My dog is very fussy, and wants to bite when I groom him. Thank you 😊

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial video. I have been searching KZhead for Grooming Havanese, especially curly hair Havanese, which are rare and not bred anymore. I have a difficult time grooming my curly hair Havanese. It would probably have been different if I had him since he was a puppy, but he was given to me at a year old. I think Bear the Havanese you’re grooming is easier to groom compared to my Myles. Would love any advice and tips on how to groom around the face and paws since he doesn’t like being touched in those areas and tries to bite me. But he doesn’t bite hard and never punctured my skin more like a warning that he’s afraid or hurt.

  • You did a terrific groom on him! Can you share the brand/type of your black thinning sheers you used on him? Also, that clip on comb size was a 4C did you say? Was a little difficult to hear clearly. Thanks for your very helpful video👌

    • Hi! Thank you so much 😊 the thinners I use are the Chris Christensen #sy852. The attachment I used was a 4 comb. I am a little behind on posting here because I’ve been working more on my tik toks lately so if your interested in more videos you can check me out here- (@allfurdogs) vm.tiktok.com/ZMJm9XKKk/

  • That’s not a negative comment. I’m actually a hairdresser, an old Havanese for 14 years and never but once attended to grow me it’s a lot of work and I appreciate yeah people like you out there who have the patience. The dog groomer just like my dog. But now I have a 14 week old puppy and I do have a question. When should he be groomed. And do you have a nail clipping video. My other dog would never let me get around his feet :-)

    • Thank you! We would recommend introducing them to grooming around 3 to 4 months. Usually we would just do an introductions to grooming their first time. Bath nails and a light trim. I noticed a lot of Havanese don't like grooming. But some are also very good. I was just going to make a nail video this week to post since we are home in quarintine I was going to make some videos of my own dogs. I have several more grooming videos I need to edit as well with much better sound quality! Lol

    • @@katiekatez84 Thank you! Also maybe mention about their ears. With my last dog I was told to pluck the ear hair out. Cornstarch in area then with fingers yank out the ear hair? Right now my pup has lots of hair in ears. What do you recommend ? Also the butt area.

      @lauriep3547@lauriep35474 жыл бұрын
    • We use an ear powder and pull a little bit at a time. Some vets say it can cause ear infections and some say if you don't pluck they can get ear infections. So I think it depends on each dog. Even if you just get a little hair out at first so your puppy gets used to you doing it and thinks it's a normal activity. That goes with nail clipping and everything else too. Usually they get used to if after a few times. Good luck with your new puppy and thank you for the video ideas!

  • What about his whiskers I know you aren't cutting them but how do you suggest avoiding them

    @mccutcheonmelanie67@mccutcheonmelanie674 жыл бұрын
    • Some people like their dogs whiskers so I wont cut them but a lot of longer haired dogs, their whiskers are blended in with their hair and they can be cut. A cats whiskers can't be cut though I believe its because they help them balance. That isn't the case for dogs so if they are cut it's ok.

    • In this video I was using Munks, those were the big ones. The small ones are ice temper from cherry brook and the ones I actually like the most now are Lily’s pet which I get on Amazon.

    • There’s not really a specific Havanese pet trim, most people request a puppy cut meaning one length all over. Technically a “puppy cut” is what you would do on a poodle under one year old, but that’s what most people call it to describe one length all over. If I were to do a show cut then nothing on the body would be trimmed but I don’t do show cuts just pet trims.
