  • Great video and presentation of the sony wildlife lenses. One lens I thought worth mentioning is the Sony 70-350 mm G lens, while I know your video covered FF lenses and the 70-350 is an apsc lens, my experience has been that that lens is very sharp, almost on par as a GM lens. I used it for a few years as my wildlife lens on my Sony FF bodies and got really great results with it, until I finally broke down and bought the 100-400 GM lens last month. Thank you again for your video!

    • That is a great lens and we wish we could feature every Sony Lens..."Maybe a future video"??? The Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS is another one of those lenses I would recommend to APSC shooters!

    • Yes the 70-350 G is a great lens with excellent resolution. I originally bought to go with my Sony APSC camera, but have kept on even after going fully into full frame, as with large resolution bodies such as the A1, A7Rv or A7CR it is ideal to take as an ultra lightweight wildlife lens. I take with me on family holidays and business trips to photograph wildlife I might see without having to carry around a relatively big and heavy full frame tele-focal lens on the off chance. With high resolution full frame bodies, you still get good size image with the APSC crop. So this is lens always with me. As a lightweight setup carried with the 20-70 G you have a huge range from 20 to 525mm to cover any situation.

  • Agree with you completely! The 70-350 is really sharp, I use it on my A7R5, and still get a decent sized pic because of the 60 megapixel sensor. And your right, it's a great lens for hiking when you don't want ro carry the larger FF zooms.

  • Hi Moses, interesting video. I am currently a Canon shooter (R5 600 F4 Mk II) but am renting the new 300mm with the R V body + 2x (bird eye AF is a must after using the R5). I agree with you that teleconverters work best on big primes, so am hoping the Sony setup will get close to the detail resolution of my Canon equipment - but be at least half the weight and less volume. These are the main reasons for considering a change. My other possible option is the Nikon Z8 + 600 6.3 or 800 6.3 - it is great that there are now good options from all the big players. Have you tried the new 300 with a 2x yet?

    • I haven't had a chance to try the new Sony 300/2.8 and at the time of this video it simply wasn't available. But I have friends who now own it and they say the image quality with the 2X TC is quite close to the 600/4. A bare lens is always going to be sharper than one with a teleconverter of course, but the option of having a featherweight 300 that is still optically excellent with both Sony teleconverters is really compelling!

  • Hi Moses, can you please tell me what lens cap you have on the 400 GM. Thanks

    • That cap is made by Karl Zemlin, he has an E-Bay store and makes great stuff.
