Moses Sparks was a commercial photographer who photographed movie stars, presidents, athletes, models and CEO’s until just before COVID hit. When his position as an editorial and staff photographer for NBC Universal ended, Moses began photographing wildlife with a Sony Super Telephoto his friend loaned him. Sparks was overwhelmed by the positive responses he received after posting his wildlife photos on social media; he was hooked on wildlife photography. Sparks’ newly found wildlife photography career has led him to the rain forests of Costa Rica, the Gulf coast of Florida, and into African plains. In this video, Moses shares his tips on how to travel to remote locations with essential camera gear for capturing amazing wildlife photography.
Moses’ essential gear includes:

  • Great video quality! I've taken a Samy's class with Moses, I've shot with him, and I've communicated with him through social media. You won't find a more knowledgable or supportive photographer out there, I can't recommend his class enough.

  • Interesting talk. 👍 Generally, the moment I tell airline staff that my bag contains $15k worth of camera gear, they make room in the overhead for me because most airlines have internal policies to avoid being liable for the replacement cost. I do use a camera cube on some trips, though, to bring size and weight down to carry-on limits. It’s especially useful when I’m on a little 12-seat island hopper in BC - it gets stowed behind the co-pilot’s seat in the crew closet. 😊 Like you, I then swap out when I get to the base camp. The lens cube either goes into my huge Kuiu hunting pack if I’m backwoods, or into a CORSurf dry backpack with lens holsters in it for wet environments like the BC coast. For kayak/canoe expeditions, I put my 25 yr old LowePro 40L camera bag inside a waterproof rafting pack and swap gear to the CORSurf when shooting on the water. Good hunting! 😎

  • Hi Moses. I watched your video for Samy’s and it is very professional. I know you are a very busy guy and you already have a website to display your photos, but you should work with someone to establish your own KZhead page. It could work in conjunction with your photography page and be a vlog where you share episodic information about your work and travels not only with the public on KZhead, but on your website and Facebook page also. With the skills you have as a photographer and musician and your easygoing presentation style you should be able to slowly take over a large share of whatever market you are interested in. Find somebody to help you present your work on a consistent basis; you can’t lose with the skills you already have. Samy’s has already sponsored you for presentations and maybe you can talk them into an ongoing sponsorship with some tech support. Keep posting man, you do a great job.

  • Great video, interesting set up. Do beware of QD attachments. I've had one fail, dropping a A7RV and 100-400 lens onto concrete. And that was a quality QD from MAGPUL (supplier to the military).

    • Interesting. I have had issues with Chinese made QD pieces, but never with Magpul. It's important to keep the port clean, and I also make a point of putting a drop of WD40 on the insert once in a while.

    • It's the weight. The loaded pack weighs about 25 pounds and I don't like having to wear that load while going through Security, Customs, etc. Rolling it is so much easier.

    • Still don’t get it. If it’s your way to carry your stuff to distant locations - why worry about that bit of walking through airport and security. Weird.

    • @@nilswigginghaus231 I guess you don't do it as much as I do. I have stood in a customs inspection line for over 2 hours waiting to be admitted into a foreign country. Doing that while wearing 25-30 pounds on my back makes no sense to me. It's just unnecessary wear and tear on your body. My system makes it easy, and when I get to my location I am ready to work!

      @mosessparks8340@mosessparks83406 ай бұрын
    • @@mosessparks8340 Maybe. I have been flying myself quite a bit with heavy gear. And I don’t disagree it can be discomfiting what you describe. However, I found it’s not as discomforting as carrying that stuff up hill, through a jungle or through blazing heat. None of that you have in an airport. But if you have the money to buy extra comfort and the room in your check in luggage to transport it - why not. Thanks for your insight.
