2008 Hummer H2 Review | A Massive Public Misunderstanding
Many have misunderstood the Hummer H2 and a lot of that has to do with the press. In this review, I plan to address the common misconceptions that the Hummer H2 and other model Hummers face.

    • I own a 2008 H2 since 2015. I get great gad mileage at 14-16 mpg around town in North East Pennsylvania area. The 6.2 liter engine uses Premium Gas not regular like the 6.0 liter. I use my H2 as a daily driver. The 2008 has full cabin Airbags which is a new feature the 03-07 do not have. At this date September 2022 I have 147,000 miles and absolutely no problems! The only problem I have encountered was not parking in a parking garage! H2 is too tall !!

    • Very informative video although there are a couple of minor things that you did get wrong. First gen Hummers from 03-04 made i believe 310-315hp. 05-07 made 325hp. 08-09 made somewhere between 380-390hp. Also you mentioned that it doesn't have an interior hood latch when its right there by the parking brake at 13:10

I guess I bought it very cheap because my dealer friend got it for me at the auction so I paid auction dealer price and he did not charge me anything very lucky. But I did replace a couple of things and I redid the whole front and rear suspension with heavy duty suspension parts it drives like a new truck

    • I bought my 2008 in 2015 also with 80,000 miles. Paid around $35,000.from a GMC dealership. This truck is mint condition all stock. Dealer had it out on 2 leases and when it came back after the 2nd lease..they parked it in the back lot and it sat there and never cleaned..I bought it" as is condition" the only thing they did was wash it before I got there.!I now have 147,000 all stock except for some outside add-on's..took off the tube steps and put on flat running boards made just for the Hummer H2.

  • Pretty honest review from a road perspective. I currently have a 2003 H2 with approximately 80k miles. I bought it as a low mileage example (20k) in 2013. It's comfortable, roomy, has been mechanically bulletproof with 2 minor issues and is an off road beast. Like many vehicles the early year models had minor issues - leaking sunroofs caused by clogged drains and gauge issues caused by sending unit failures. Simple fixes for both - at least in my opinion. The cons - people hate them or love them. fuel mileage. This isn't a Prius though... I don't fit in most parking garages Cheap ass interior....like pathetic in it's cheap assness Pros - Built like an anvil Roomy Fantastic road manners. Mine is quiet, rides decently, etc Incredible off road ability - runs stock on 35" tires, has UCP already, traction control system that works, locking center diff, locker in the rear, 31 gallon fuel tank (ok... so it needs that) decent power from the V8. I've been all over the place with my H2. It's bone stock except for 37" KM3's. I like it quite alot. I'm looking for another one

  • people who say It has the chassis of a Chevy Tahoe couldn't be more wrong The frame itself is constructed from 3 sections, each either custom made for the H2 or modified and beefed up front frame is a beefed up GM 2500-Series utility frame. The rear frame is a beefed up GM 1500-Series frame. The H2 frame is fully boxed (Tahoe is not) and has more cross members ... Even the the rails on the silverado 2500HD are only "C-channel", on the H2 they are much bigger and fully boxed, and more. If you take the front skid, bumper, etc. off your truck you'll see some of the heaviest front-end-reinforcement of any frame on any vehicle from this era. all components are packaged flush with or above the frame rails unique suspension unique transfer case unique traction control system H2 has a rear locker The Tahoe is a 6 lug, H2 is 8 lug H1 and H2 were built at the same assembly line at AM General's plant in Indiana.

  • I have to say I prefer the 03-07 interiors. And the steering wheel I prefer the 03 which just says HUMMER in engraved lettering, it looks cool. After 03 it said H2 but that was a mistake, why'd they change it? Love my 03 and the great thing is the exterior looks nearly identical for the entire production run. On the 08'-'09 they moved the HUMMER lettering down on the front grill. I think it looks better where it was before. Not sure they really improved things with the 08 facelift. They rounded off some corners inside on the dash and doors, new instrument cluster. Some say the interiors are really plastic-y and cheap well what car or truck since 1980 doesn't have plastic? I think they are fine. I love the dash. My biggest complaint would be the shifter which is plastic and that is pretty cheap feeling. Like what would it have cost to put something solid instead? The other downside is there isn't much room behind the 3rd row for storage. I'd like to put a full 3rd row in mine but then I wouldn't have much luggage space left. Our Expedition has 2 inches more leg room in the second row and it even has more room behind 3rd row so overall it has less space. Fuel economy is about the same despite the larger engine and more weight. Actually, I got slightly better highway in the Hummer. Yes, Hummer takes a lot of shit about fuel economy but any big SUV or truck is like that. To me it doesn't seem that big. I remember when I saw these when they first came out. They looked big then but not compared to pretty much any truck now. I had a Jeep Cherokee at the time so bigger than those. But I've driven much bigger trucks so this isn't that bad really.

    • I also have a 2008 H2 and..an Expedition! I had a 1998 and 2005 Expedition..now I have a 2019 Expedition..yes there is more room in the "Expy" because it's longer than the H2. I have a full 3rd row in the H2 and have them tumbled up and out of the way. Bought my H2 in 2015 and now have 147,000 miles and get 14-16 mpg. Around town in North East Pennsylvania

    • You like the 03 interior? That interior fell a part.. and the radio bezel looks better in the 08. Plus.. they added ac on the roof.. so better temperature in the cab be it ac or heat. Plus, the clusters looked much better.. BUT.. I will say that the 03 steering wheel was probably more attractive

  • I have to add too, when I first climbed inside mine when I went to look/buy it, it was so cool. The low windows. It makes a very unique driving experience. People hate on these but HUMMER's are future classics. They haven't made them for 10 years now and who knows when they'll be back and what form they will take when they do. When you look at the production numbers, 150k H2's isn't that many. Yeah, they hold their value, I'm finding that out now after wanting to buy a second H2. Can't find any as cheap as my black chrome '03 now. Black looks so good on these, well I haven't seen a bad color yet. White is a little boring though. I like that early orange color, maybe yellow. Blue looks good too but rare. I ordered a bunch of sales brochures off ebay, they are fantastic to look at. My favorite is '07 sales brochure showing the SUV and SUT out in the wilderness. Some great images in there of H2's.

    • Hey thanks so much for the awesome comment glad to hear you’re a big fan of these. I agree with your points and I think with how strict emissions are getting, this brand will continue to be dead and these Hummer vehicles will be a sought after classic

      @MeynMotorGroup@MeynMotorGroup4 жыл бұрын
    • @@MeynMotorGroup I'm not sure if emissions would prevent a new HUMMER model (basically the same as selling 2500/3500 series trucks). The 6.6l Duramax would be 12-16mpg while delivering more power/torque so a noticeable improvement over the first generation H2's. The problem would be they were 50k back then for the H2, now they would start at 70k so how long would that be before I could afford one, lol? But, I think enough time has past and HUMMER is a solid brand, they need to bring it back. China couldn't pay enough for it, so glad it didn't end up over there. I think the time is right for a return.

    • @@n3d.studio Yea but those are classified as "trucks" so they get a pass but I don't know if vehicles like Suburbans, Land Cruisers, Armadas, etc. are classified as trucks since they are based off of truck platforms

    • @@MeynMotorGroup I think the EPA rules say they must meet a combined avg mpg of all vehicles sold, that's the only regulation that I know of where it would be an issue. I don't recall what it is right now 30mpg combined maybe, and it's supposed to go up by 2025 etc. So if they sell enough high mpg or EV models that would make up for trucks/suv's. The 6.6l is already more efficient than the 6.0/6.2 Vortec, but if they didn't put a 6.6l in, maybe a turbo charged 6 cycle like the Raptor, they could do even better. I would say it doesn't really need the Duramax unless you plan on doing a lot up pulling anyway and then you really need a truck not a SUV. But it wouldn't be ridiculous to expect 18mpg's out of a new HUMMER with today's engineering. Now if HUMMER/AM General is expected to meet those epa rules alone, then yes but if GM combined, I think they're fine.

      @n3d.studio@n3d.studio4 жыл бұрын
    • Of course the new rumor is that the HUMMER brand will return as an EV. GM recently struck a $3bn deal with union workers (BT1 electric program) to build an all new EV platform and talk is that the HUMMER brand will likely be brought back as an all-electric off road SUV. This would still be years away likely 20 years after the H2's debut. As far as electric HUMMER's for normal driving I think that's fine as more and more charging stations appear, but what about off road? Charging could be an issue depending on location. But being EV, the downside is the price, a new gas powered HUMMER would likely cost 70k in todays money. GM says the electric trucks will sell at 90k or more, other vehicles will be 100k or more.

  • I get 12.9mpg in a 2005.Better mpg than a 1969 Camaro SS or Mustang Gt. The frame is not a Tahoe frame. It has a 2500 HD truck front frame architecture designed for more offeoad. There is basically nothing the same in the Tahoe except the accessories and steering wheel and in the last couple years of the H2s life the Tahoe finally got the engine/transmission option I believe. But Tahoe got no under armor, no front hitch, No 33s, No rear locker, not the same suspension calibration, and a lot more. I love my H2. Never going to sell it. Not that there is anything wrong with a Tahoe. id deive a tahoe.

  • I don’t think the h2 is for speed but for off-road/on road use but the reputation of the vehicle was bad because the people that drive this car. But people before were complaining how they got bad fuel milage and the h2 killed the environment and now we have WAY bigger trucks then the h2 and heavier like the chevy,fords,and rams. Some people just want big rigs i think the h2 is pretty good vehicle

    • Yea we have crazy gas guzzlers nowadays but gas is kind of cheap right now. I’m sure when it spikes back up, smaller cars will be more popular again

      @MeynMotorGroup@MeynMotorGroup4 жыл бұрын
    • Yes i do agree small cars will always be a persons thought for better fuel milage and when it does spike up people need small cars to save money. But in the end of the day whether you own a huge suv ,pickup truck, or a small sedan a car is a machine that you can rely on to get you from point A to point B and no matter which car you drive as long as you take care of it that machine will last until it won’t go anymore. Than we can get to the spicy stuff like changing engines or buying a whole new car. 😁

  • Hmm... Not sure on this one Kevin, you are definitely reaching to compare it to a Raptor, these actually have very weak front suspension and especially the tie rods tend to bend in any sorta rock crawling situation. Personally I’m not a fan, but I still see your points and for someone who is a fan I guess it might be worth it. But yeah if you’re looking for a hard core off roader the Raptor or Toyota TRD Pro have much better suspension setups and will take a lot more abuse.

    @CarswithNash@CarswithNash4 жыл бұрын
    • This is why I love it when you stop by my friend you provide some great insight. You may be right of course but I can only go buy it’s capabilities when it was new as all the journalists tested it in very tough terrain. Raptors and Toyota’s will always be at the top of durability but for half the price I do like this thing. I also like how it holds value but most of that is due to how it looks. Good thing is no one will off road this haha

    • Ok they are weak on tie bars but you can upgrade them to titium ones and new shockers. Then you have the best truck going

  • It's not like a raptor... far from it. A raptor outclasses the h2 in every way. Maybe a cool factor but I cringe when you keep comparing the two.

    • Mine was leaking from the rear main and I was a little worried it leaked quite a bit. I put a bottle of Blue Devil Rear Main sealer in after I topped off the oil. You're supposed to drive about 200 miles for it to fully work. I noticed a difference the next day, just a small drop now and then. After a few days, not a drop. I park it in my garage and I check it often to see if there's any leaking, nope. Never would have thought a stop leak product would work this well but it did. Tell him to get that in there it's around 15.00 a bottle. Need to see where it's leaking though. They also have a general purpose stop leak, but if it's the rear main you need that one.

  • You lost me at "...widest vehicle ever. This actually makes the Ford Raptor look like a little baby car, honestly". Did you even try? Look at a spec sheet? The first gen Raptor, at 86.3" wide, not counting mirrors, is 5.1" wider than the H2's 81.2". The H1 is only 5mm wider than the Raptor. So, when compared to the Raptor, as you did, neither of the Hummers dimmensions are all that ridiculous. Are they?
