  • Am I alone in thinking Garon would have worked if he was genuinely kind to his children and subjects? If Corrin discovering the horrors he visits upon Hoshido causes the Branch of Fates. I also think removing the Agarthans from Three Houses makes it a tragedy, of an immortal failing to maintain order on the continent and all attempts to fix it led to further deterioration. The Wars, partition, ethnic cleansings, and the crest experiments would all be the acts of human hatred and greed, thing Rhea fails to control or understand. VW, SS, and AM would be the story of a more suitable successor, hopefully, bringing a brighter future. CF would be all of her failures coming back to bite her with the rise of a revolutionary conqueror.

  • Something about Ludveck is that in the extended script of Radiant Dawn, he’s more fleshed out which hurts his development because IS really cut him down of characterization in the localized scripted.

      @nerdycatlover8627@nerdycatlover86278 ай бұрын
    • @@nerdycatlover8627 Also came to comment with that. Such a shame we didn't get the extended script since Ludveck is easily the biggest loser of it being gone in international versions with how much he's missing. With it, not only does his plan make a lot more sense (doesn't want to overthrow Elincia in a way that leaves her dead, but capture her alive (a fact never established in international versions also because the lack of the extended script) and make her cede the throne him in order to not piss off the other nations if he just killed her and proclaimed himself king in a "legitimate" fashion), but he delivers some very vicious lines as well in the dungeon scene (like saying Elincia being so overly trusting that he could have poisoned her without her ever doubting him if he was allowed that option). For me, he went from a passable but unremarkable villain to possibly one of my favorite minor villains in the series because of the extended script. If RD ever gets remade, I REALLY want that that portion added back in as that's one of the biggest improvements that a remake could do for the game.

He's not stupid, and I think there could have been a loyalist faction that would have rose up. With Lucia's life as a bargaining chip, the argument could still be made she gave in under duress. Just my own thoughts on it. I used to write FE fan fiction, so that's just my theory. But yeah, a lot of things suffered in the localization.

  • Grima is a character I really love and is probably my favorite FE villain, but that’s because of FEH, cipher and the DLC of shadows of Valentia. If we were to base around solely around Awakening and that only… then yeah, Grima is one of the worst villains in FE. I feel like if they explained more about Grima’s story and motivations instead of just keeping it hidden, it would made Grima’s final confrontation all the more fantastic. Maybe Grima could have explained to Robin about how mankind is hypocritical and how greedy they are for power like how they did in FEH. Anankos is another character I like, but i really wish they gave him more screen time and maybe even give him a few interactions with Garon and him controlling him. It may have even improved Garon a bit, but alas. It’s fates.

    @KokichiGrimleal_058@KokichiGrimleal_0588 ай бұрын
  • Grima is misused, he’s like a Kaiju, but they tried to give him some kind of philosophy, but he’s just… a cynical nihilistic asshole. “Your besties are meaningless.” -Grima Grima could’ve had no dialogue and would have been the same. If they had made Grima a thematic monster, maybe he’d have been better. Imagine if Robin learned they were a vessel of Grima way earlier in the story, and it really shocks them, Robin gets cynical and depressed about it. Chrom is like, bestie, we can beat anything because I believe in the power of S support pair ups. And Robin starts being optimistic because Chrom is their optimistic bestie. When at the end of the game, they actually do fight Grima, Grima thematically represents the dread and cynical mindset robin felt when they had accepted their doomed fate, and them literally beating Grima becomes thematic to them beating that cynicism. Robin could learn they’re a vessel of Grima right when they go to plegia to ask for their ships, Validar could be like “btw, you better take care of yourself my child because you’re a vessel of Grima. And the heir to the plegian throne, because you’re my child and will be our god so…” And so Chrom helping Robin’s character growth after Robin gets depressed about it would tie into Robin and Chrom as “two-halfs of a whole.” Because Robin helped Chrom through his sadness after Emmeryn dies. Maybe along the way in Valm Robin regains their memories of being raised in Plegia, and maybe they remember something that makes them want to save Plegia, like their mother’s kindness. Or normal people in the grimleal that are good people. And robin’s ties to Plegia actually end up mattering thematically Maybe the reason the Grimleal are evil isn’t because They like big evil dragons, but because they have some kind of prophecy of Grima’s revival from way back when he died, and their religion is about accepting their fate to be destroyed by an evil dragon, furthering the idea of grima as the big cynicism dragon. Robin and Chrom go to validar to be like “we can change fate and kill grima.” And validar is like “no that’s blasphemy, we have to accept our fates.” The plot ensues like normal until validar is defeated, but then Grima presumably possesses robin into attacking chrom, but he survives, because power of friendship, robin weakened the lightning. Grima fails to possess Robin As Grima can’t control robin, Validar decides to be his vessel instead, Grima is revived and maybe weaker and/or unstable, but still a threat, they kill him the end. In the epilogue, Robin becomes the ruler of Plegia, and Chrom of Ylisse, but they stay besties. Making the relationship between both Chrom and Robin play into both character’s growth. Why didn’t I mention lucina, or future grima? because in this story there is no time travel. Or emmyryn assassination plot. (Literally the only thing lucina changes besides emmyryn’s assassination is Basilio surviving, and he can just… survive.) if they need a reason for Emmeryn to move from the capital, it can just be plegian assassins that want to kill/capture her because gangriel is an ass. Maybe it’s a little cheesy, maybe it’s a little fan-fictiony, but personally I like the idea of the relationship between chrom and robin actually mattering thematically beyond Chrom being like “we’re such besties that we can change fate.” I think it also improves the grimleal because validar becomes sort of like Jedah, he’s a planner who wants nothing more than to make sure that his religious ideology is upheld, and Aversa defecting could be because she gains hope that Grima can lose, (and could actually happen during the real story.) and maybe they could tie her into Robin’s childhood memories, or have her show up in Valm to fight alongside the Yiless army initially to spy on them and then because their ideology rubs off on her, she defects from the grimleal, (before or after betraying them by helping validar.)

  • Well, to be fair to Fates: Garon is literally dead for the entire story. We don't know when or how he died, but he's dead. And Anankos is just controlling his dead body. And Anankos himself doesn't actually have any plans, because he is also going insane from Dragon alzheimers. This is the main reason he is such a bad villain. He has an interesting backstory that we only get in the DLC. But for basically the entire story of fates, Anankos or Hydra just wants to destroy the world because he has degenerated a long time ago. The main theme of the game was written by him and is a cry for salvation. It was written by his human soul I think. Who also died before the main game. And the localisation really ruined Xander, because in the OG script he excuses his father because he is scared shitless of him. You know, Daddy issues. The Nohr siblings are all scared of Garon and obey him out of fear. Fates could have been so good. It could have been really good. But they first cut the script short by a lot and then the localisation butchered it even more. I still like the game though. I enjoy the characters. And yeah, Sombron sucks as a villain. But Sombron also has nothing interesting going on for him. Anankos and Garon at least have their very interesting backstories and circumstances that could have been done way better. I don't know, I just don't like fates endings. Engage had a nice ending though. I miss paired endings but hey, they basically just made another Binding Blade. Roy was also the only character with a paired ending in his game. I really enjoyed Engage. I wonder what the next FE game will be.

  • Credit where credit is due to Sombron: when he explains his past, the game makes it pretty clear it does not excuse his actions. Even Alear finds it downright insulting as Sombron treated his children as expendable pawns to find the one person he cared about, never mind that any one or many of his children could've filled in that part. As for the Grimleal, I only have one question: why do future games insist on making them enforcers of villains that very clearly aren't Grima? Several major bosses in TMS are Grimleal despite the main villains of the story being Gharnef and the revived Medeus fought after the boss rush looks nothing like the fell dragon. The original FE Warriors has even less of an excuse as, unlike Mirages Aversa and Excellus, Validar has preserved his mental state and is still serving the Gristonne Army with what appear to be zero ulterior motives. Their english name is a portmanteau of "Grima" and "loyal"!

Did he just give up?), Gharnef is only there to fill the "look, I am the clone guy"-trope, the King is a legit non-entity who does not even have a clear motive(Besides just ruling the entire land, I suppose, lmao) and Velezark is an absolute mess because it is literally what the plot wants it to be and it sucks. The Children's Festival DLC actually have extra dialog and scenarios of the families interacting with each other more. And with the case of Peri, there are two examples where you can see showing remorse for her past and not wanting others to fall into the same trappings as her. Those two are Ophelia and Soleil. But at the same time, we end up having to treat those conversations and her supports in general to be two separate universes. We could have opportunities to see such things. Is she as 1 dimensional as the villains on this list? No. But man when I finished FE6 I couldn't help but feel disappointed for how off the last few chapters felt. Like they were just trying to bring back some Kaga secret events from the earlier entries in the series and didn't know how to interweave it other than to make a true ending with extra chapters. I get it though it's not meant to be the ending you experience if you go in blind, but it still irks me that the ending you get when you 100% the game is more anticlimactic than the ending to a few chapters earlier, especially because Zephiel is great. Even besides the fact that Thales and the Slitherers are garbage villains for being an evil cult shoehorned into a morally gray story, and being very incompetent at that, there's two reasons as to why I consider Thales the worst, all thanks to Azure Gleam's dogshit writing. 1. Swapping an interesting antagonist such as Edelgard for a generic Gharnef like Thales via brainwashing is just an objectively bad trade 2. It makes Thales an absolute dumbass in retrospect, because it raises the question of why the hell doesn't Thales do this in any other route between the two games. Giving Thales this ability that he could do at any time but just doesn't for no logical reason singlehandedly destroys the entire Fodlan story in half.

And if a future Fire Emblem game can create a cast not only comparable to that of Houses but also improve the main protagonist/avatar and villains to be as good as the playable cast of Houses, such a future cast would automatically be better than the Houses cast (since the villains are weak and Byleth could have been better).

The idea that a powerful boss wont attack a specific unit already sent a message to me saying, "wait a minute, why is alm the only one rudolph wont attack?" Only to realize after that he was Alm's father. If there was an option to spare Rudolph, i would 100% pick that option every time! Berkut: definitely a fun antagonist to hate, until it actually gets sad when he founds out his life was a lie. While he is fun to fight, i eventually felt sorry for him falling so far into madness. Jedah: delightfully devilish! A truly despicable man taking advantage of the situation and corrupting Celica (for one cutscene but still), also, screw this guy's fights! I try and try to attack him without putting my team in danger and "uh whoops sorry! I just didnt feel like getting hit!" Duma: awesome zombie like design, powerful, omnipresent, and sending out so many eyeballs it would make a thousand eye monster jealous. Grima: an incredible (if not confusing) plot twist involving the main character, and the fact that you still dont win in the end makes it sound that much more intimidating. Gotta love the extra content given to it in the 3ds echoes game, and the fact that a baby grima can beat duma without even taking a scratch just make him that much more terrifying. Garon: Basically ganondorf if he was a human... and dead. Anankos: I dont know a damn thing about this clown! Nothing in the base games even eludes to his existence except maybe conquest, and by the end he feels like an after thought. You know its bad when TAKUMI made for a more climactic final fight, let that sink in.

It feels like IS wants to get people to like FE characters like how people like Genshin characters, individual characters get following because they exist, and maybe their character trailer was good, or they were present in the story, and people like their design and/or personality and that’s basically all it take for them to have a fanbase. But imo FE is bad at that, I’d say of Engage’s cast the characters that actually succeed at gaining widespreed popularity would probably be Yunaka, Ivy, Diamant, Alcryst, and Lapis, but people don’t like the engage cast more than the FE3H cast overall because they existed in a world that felt like it had more to it. They really are selecting a target audience that responds well to characters that exist as standalone things to like. That all said, it feels pretty surface level in a lot of ways now.

  • Sombrom is not perfect but I will not consider him top 5 worst villan for a few reason. For one like Most versions of ganondorf his "reasons" are more excuses for power and revenge and we can see these perfectly in the alear conversaotion and the twin dragons from the dlc were we see that he says that ones he goes to another world he will forget everyone which he does with his other children. Second but most importantly he is puré evil unlike most three houses villians and he knows it, that what he is doing is bad but he does not care he is a Dragon a selfish creature that only wants something that he consider precious and nothing more Side note I really line the Pandreo and Maviuer support but it with everything that sombrom does in the story it make Zero sence why people especially mauvier who has seen first hand all of Sombrom's action worthship him for other dragon I can get the logic but not for him

  • After I watched your Top 10 Best Modern Villains, I figured I'd come and see your Top 10 worst villains. And I can really agree that the modern villains have been...pretty lacking. I've got comments for pretty much all of them, and I'd like to make a couple of dishonorable mentions of my own from Heroes: #10: Yeah...I've got some choice words for Grima. As a concept, Grima is so awesome! But...the fact that they're also pretty much just Robin from the future just feels weird and confusing. The fact that the Grimas get so much attention in Heroes also gets *really* annoying... #9: I legitimately forgot Jeritza/The Death Knight was supposed to be a villain. To be fair, I played Crimson Flower and not any other route, but the fact that he disappeared in the base game was kind of a letdown. At least they fixed that with a later patch making him playable, but I get why you put him up here, given that on any other route he's just...there. You know, kinda like the Agarthans. #8: Ah, nice to know we have a generic mook who loves killing on our team! And with none of the charm unlike the likes of Kempf and Griss. Plus his design is pretty bad. #7: While I haven't played Radiant Dawn, I can certainly see why Ludveck was pretty badly handled from your point of view. #6: I thought Anankos was an interesting idea on paper, but with all of the flaws that Fates' storytelling has, at least they tried to tell a different story with each one, even if they rendered it all moot with Garon/Anankos...wow, just like the Agarthans again. I'm starting to see a pattern here... At least his boss fight is awesome. RIP Revelation though, as now it's unable to be obtained through normal means, possibly forever. #5: Hoo boy, I've got a lot of words to say about the Agarthans... Like I said in your Top 10 Best Modern Villains video, they're so one-note and boring that I wonder why they even tried to paint everyone as morally gray when these guys are absolutely black in morality. Actually, I think that might be why I love Crimson Flower more than any other route; I never cared about the Agarthans at all, compared to how much I loved the clash between Edelgard and Rhea's points of views on what is best for the world. The Agarthans meanwhile, were just generic cult villains with none of the charm...well, at least Kronya, Thales, and Cornelia look neat, but other than that...they're terrible. And Arval/Epidementes doesn't fix the problem with them. I just wish that they cut these guys out and didn't pussy out on the "there is no true bad guy" feel the game initially had... #4: Sombron sucks big time. Hyacinth and his daughters felt tragic and Veyle did too, and the Four Hounds were pretty good villains, but Sombron is so boring and forgettable as a villain... #3: The weirdest and perhaps most underwhelming final boss in the whole game. Honestly, Thracia as a whole was...weird. #2: Garon is so poorly written that he's basically become a cautionary tale in the Fire Emblem franchise, and I can see why. You know it's bad when Hyacinth does everything Garon does better. Honestly, Ivy and Hortensia are one of my favorite characters just for how relatable they are, at least to me. But Garon is SO horribly written and obviously evil that there's literally no contest over who is the real villain and what is going to happen. Oh no, Garon was the villain and turned out to be an evil king being controlled by a giant dragon. We totally didn't see *that* coming from a thousand fucking miles away! #1: I really need to play Awakening for myself, but I have heard that the villains, especially Validar, suck so bad. Why can't these modern games do villains right?! Well, no offense to Engage for giving us actually GOOD villains, but still... And for my Dishonorable Mentions for Heroes villains would have to be Hel and Ótr. Hel is the main villain of Book III and is the embodiment of death itself. Her design is absolutely on point and she feels like a genuine threat...so watch as she does nothing for most of the story while one of her generals (Lif) hogs the entire spotlight, and she dies like every other mook. Otr meanwhile, is so poorly written that I honestly can't see why ANYONE would like him. It's like the writers couldn't decide whether to make him a hate sink or a sympathetic villain, so they do this awkward middle ground where he hates Reginn for...trying to take his brother Fáfnir away from him? What the fuck?!

  • The four hounds worked well as villains, until near the end when they tried to make them all relatable. It worked with Veyle and Mauvier well, Marnie not so much, and Griss and Zephia were so evil throughout the game that suddenly trying to humanize them at the end felt really weird. That’s the problem with Engages villains, that they’re all supposed to be somewhat sympathetic.

    @aidanjones8288@aidanjones82888 ай бұрын
    • They're not. They can have reasons for doing what they did, but that doesn't make them sympathetic. That's like saying Gangrel is sympathetic just because he wanted revenge on Chrom's family.

    • @@CountShaman I agree, I don't think they are sympathetic, but towards the end of the story we started getting more backstory on each of them, and Griss and Zephia's death cutscene felt very melodramatic to me. I think the 4 hounds are great villains, but the end tried to make us sympathize with them more. Kind of like Sombron, how the story attempted to humanize him at the end of the game. Engage has great villains, but there are some minor nitpicks I have. Just my opinion though, I was played fe4 and 9 right before engage, so I was spoiled by Travant and The Black Knight.

  • Unpopular opinion, but I actually like the Agarthans. They're not amazing by any means, but they serve their purpose for being an intimidating and dangerous threat in the first half of the game. Second half, not as much but I digress. They have their faults, and your points on why they don't work are actually solid, but I enjoy them for what they are. Then again, I'm also biased since Three Houses is my favorite Fire Emblem game. Also, their theme is fire!

  • Fair enough about not liking the Dragon archetype much but I would say Grima is honestly not that bad of a villain. They didn't mess it up. The doppelganger plot was a good idea though and made sense with how Robin was meant to be the vessel for Grima and how it connects back to the beginning scene of Awakening where we see Robin kill Chrom. It really isn't lame at all. Interesting stuff was done with the idea, the whole scene with Lucina trying to kill Robin because of that plotline is one example of interesting stuff that was done with the idea. Sure they didn't switch places with Robin which is missed potential but they did have a psychological confrontation being when they first meet each other. So no it isn't just there. The plan does make sense. They follow Lucina into another timeline to stop her from being able to change their timeline or at least get a big enough force and army to go back into the future and fight their Grima and actually win. Yes they intervened right after Validar was killed so what? No they should be able to do something after that. No the fact that they can at all doesn't mean that their worries are at all pointless as they had a right to be worried since Lucina very much could have turned the war against them around in her favor. The plan to combine the two Grima's powers was fine and made perfect sense. Something was done from a gameplay standpoint when it comes to these two working together being that they both attack you during the fight. Sure you don't fight the Dragon itself which is seriously missed potential but the dragon still attacks you and engages with the fight itself. Grima wasn't ruined by a gimmicky payoff. Eh...Awakening didn't do it that bad really. Eh even without Echoes and Heroes Grima is still pretty cool really. Ok Awakening was my first FE but you're wrong, what Grima really is isn't a overrated let down at all, heck wasn't Grima pretty hated or at least kind of hated back then? Yeah Grima really isn't overrated at all.
