Hi-Fi Rush Is Getting Review Bombed...But in a Good Way - IGN Daily Fix
In today's Daily Fix:
In the fallout of the studio closures accross Bethesda this week, critical darling Hi-Fi Rush is getting review bombed on Steam. Don't freak out, it's a positive review bomb. Not sure if there's a word for that yet. As of the posting of this episode, the game has over 21,000 user reviews, the majority of them being overwhelmingly positive. This makes the game the highest rated Microsoft or Bethesda game on Steam ever. In related news, Microsoft's no good very bad PR week continues as Xbox president Sarah Bond responded to questions about the decision to shutter several game studios this week. Bond insisted the decision was about ensuring the Xbox business stays healthy and that the industry as a whole is suffering from a "lack of growth." Needless to say, this did not go over well with fans, who pointed to previous comments about Hi-Fi Rush meeting the company's metrics for success both financially and critically, and the studio still getting shut down. And finally, in some positive news, hit indie game Animal Well is doing well, and players are just discovering a puzzle that needs at least 50 players to complete. Well, the community is coming together for this one, and looks like it'll be solved soon.

Hi Fi Rush is one of my all time favorite games, so I'm absolutely devastated to see the Tango closure, but at least the fans rallying around it is a small silver lining!

HiFi Rush was such a great and fresh new game in a stale bag of chips that is the game industry. It would have done better if there was a physical version, a collector's edition and lots of merchandise for it, figures, shirts, plushies, etc. It needed more exposure.

Problem is it doesn't matter when nobody was actually playing or buying the game...... Like it was available to 25 million people at no extra cost and purchasable and only 3 million people touched it and less then 7% on Xbox/Game Pass/Game Pass PC bothered to finish it and we know more people on console played AoE4 a freaking RTS then Hi-Fi Rush. Like Helldivers 2 worked because people actually play it but that is not the case for Hi-Fi sadly.

The amount of weird sad schizos in the comments that keep claiming Hi-Fi didn't sell well is so bizarre, obviously it didn't do ridiculous CoD slop numbers but it literally BTFO Forspoken (which had like a month headstart) WHILE on gamepass. We literally have the MS statements about how it vastly EXCEEDED their expectations. Hi-Fi did as much as spreading through word of mouth could have done since that was the games only real marketing, the game is a true underdog story and hopefully returns someday in some shape or form.

Hi-Fi Rush was one of their best games of all time. The music, the gameplay, all of it was too amazing to ignore. Xbox gone screwed up in closing down these studios. The president is foolish and not even a gamer to think we don’t need these studios anymore when in fact they give us what we love.

Tango works downfall was sparked by ghost wire tokyo, they spent so much resources into that game for years for it to not even performed well in the market, Hi-Fi rush was only delaying the inevitable unfortunately.

Games are expensive to make, and unfortunately, if they don't sell well enough, then the studios struggle to survive. We all have games we love but just didn't make sense financially for the company.

Kind of useless as a protest, no? Just makes the game more appealing for people to buy, that money goes directly to Microsoft. If you want to hurt Microsoft you would have to actually reviewbomb the game since that would hamper sales and lose MS money. But that's obviously not fair on the developers (but neither is getting closed down by MS). The only way to win is not to play.

Maybe if more people actually played the game rather than just talked about it for console wars nonsense, Tango wouldn't have been shut down. Hell, people probably didn't even have to buy the game for Microsoft execs to see it as a success. Simply having a lot of people play it on Game Pass would've likely been a positive metric. But across both consoles & PC, it seemed only critics & a handful of people actually played the game. Everyone else either tried to belittle it in fanboy arguments because it was associated with Xbox, or the opposite group used it brag about how it won more awards than Spider-Man 2... but not even playing it.

I'm just gonna post here to laugh in case MS announces a new studio born from the death of the few presented. It's easy to dump on big companies, but as you said, there was no real reason to close some of them unless you want to consolidate talent.
Just remember, they didn't do this by mistake, the investors told the ceos to do this, thay want to milk all our money out of us, they punish passion and reward subservients, we need to make sure these investors stay in there place, and not mess with the fun.
