Yeah, too bad neither of those statements apply here. lel. Ps2 era controls doesn't equate to good gameplay. DMC is a fantastic franchise but fighting your controller in a hack n slash game shouldn't be a thing. It's a fucking hack n slash game foremost, not a competitive multiplayer experience. It should have never been difficult to control to begin with but thats just how it was back in the day so it was excusable, now it's pretty dated and many fans who rag on the reboot agree that the control was superior and more modern.. I'm fully willing to admit this as a long time fan of the series. Finally, you're either out of your mind, intentionally trying to argue, or generally have a shit taste in video games if you think DmC is bad by any stretch of the imagination. It's got tons of moves, just as much as 3.. the only reason it doesn't seem that way to you is because of the plethora of weapons introduced in 5. It's got it's flaws like colored enemies but for the most part it's a worthy entry. It's not trying to replace the main series and never was trying to... and to their credit at least they weren't trying to pull a ghostbusters 2016 by just calling it "Devil May Cry", so there was SOME respect toward the original franchise. The "not in a million years" joke was meant to portray a stark contrast between both Dante's and the worlds they live in... but of course the fandom decided to screech like a bunch of dying fortnite players. People who complain about the reboot but intentionally forget about how SHITTY dmc 2 is because it's convenient to do so are worse than the entirety of the fortnite fanbase.

I know the laugh is infamous and awkward... and I still find myself actually liking why that was in the script. It makes sense when you think about it, but the reveal doesn't happen nor is it hinted at that point.

See, I've only watched cutscenes and never actually played the story but if they made this a battle between Mundus and Sparda as blood brothers, and then toss in the moral dilemma of Dante and Vergil hunting down their own UNCLE, you could have had a recipe for a complicated plot where neither side is exactly correct. Maybe Mundus and Sparda BOTH wanted to help mankind but where Sparda wanted to protect man and batter with the Angels to protect humanity, Mundus wanted to enslave and herd them like cattle - to 'protect them from themselves' - while wanting to exterminate the angels for x-y-z reasons. Their different ideologies ended up causing the clash that caused them to become embittered enemies which resulted in many causalities including Eva. Have that be an overarching theme and have the twins _break_ the cycle after spending the entire game in ideological conflict (not to their father/uncle's degree) before eventually coming to a head which results in the both of them reaching the end of their personal journeys and agreeing that how both Mundus and Sparda went about their ideals was thoroughly effing stupid. In that vein, they needed to find a new way to effectively protect mankind. Hell, maybe we could see the other side. Maybe the Angels were just as corrupt as the devils albeit for entirely different reasons. Or perhaps they're so dogmatically adherent to their ideals and core values that even the IDEA of entertaining anything other than war with demonkind is heresy. Hell, maybe the Angels themselves even shunned Eva for DARING to prove that YES, demons and angels can learn to live and care for each other, perhaps even love each other. Perhaps they too see Dante and Vergil as abominations and that becomes a plot arc unto itself. Maybe Dante follows the plot thread regarding the idea that not all devils are bad people while Vergil follows the whole 'Angels are not good' and the culmination of their respective arcs results in an ideological agreement between the twins that mankind must be protected from BOTH forces. Cause I love the idea of Vergil and Dante having parrallel journeys which result in them working together for mankind - if in different ways. But... feel free to disregard these as just my ramblings. ;)
Brooke Williams the ideas in this game had merit, but with all the drama in the DMC community and the developers being salty lil fucks I guess it got lost in translation. On top of a few genuinely bad ideas I guess this is what we ended up with. 🤷♂️
I really like the idea of morality in these games, and wish that they were explored more in this as Vergil and Dante’s development was the best part of the story, even if Dante is way too vulgar and Vergil way too pathetic
well the thing is this game's story had potential but it ahd no theme's the "message" is beaten over your head like they beat you over the head with boring dialogue and the chracter designs are very samy compared to other games dmc never had a great story but it had good underlying theme's loveable characters and good designs and 3 actually had a great story plus the cringey dialogue is a plus its fun to laugh and snicker at but this ga,e just has such poor execution with some refinments and removing the dmc brand it would be a decent game since the combat is really good (since it had such a strong base) but all the characters are bland and unlikeable mundus is about as intimidating as a big mac and the boss fights kinda suck but alot of the issue's can be fixed i don't hate the game i think it had alot of potential but in every aspect it kinda failed with obvious flaws that seem easy to fix

Most of the rage towards the game was from fans who were angry that the original franchise had been apparently ended, and so they took their frustrations out on the game by claiming it was worse than it actually is. Now that 5 is out and everyone loves it, we look at the game restrospectively, and acknowledge that it's actually pretty damned solid. It's definitely better than Devil May Cry 2.

Ehhh. Doubt it. I think the hate would've been less. But still there. The dialog is awful (Yes, I know the OG DMC games don't have the most amazing dialog either. But this is far worse). The overall color scheme is way too bright to the point of being a pain to look at for too long. The whole thing with certain demons needing to be damaged by certain weapons kills combo creativity which is the best part of DMC, etc.

not all demons were angels, some were created by other demon, others by human negativity and some were once human. if a demon and angel did have an offspring it wouldn't be an angel, since when angels become demons they're stripped of their angelic power and get flooded with demonic power and other things changing their form and soul thus would make a half angel half demon but they wouldn't be called Nephilims.

The first time I played DMC3 I couldn't find a better way to defeat Vergil during the third batle. So I replayed level 11 for like 50 times, so I could have enough orb to buy 50 holy water and spam Vergil with it and that was normal difficulty. In this DMC it took me a single try to defeat him. Count it as a sin.
Actually, the original DMC3 [before the special edition] had a huge difficulty "bug". For some reason, Normal Mode in the localized version was Hard Mode in the Japanese version. Every other mode was also harder in the localized version.
50 holy waters in normal? really? I used 5 and Trickster with A&R, finished that in some minutess. Hard I used 5 holy waters and Doppelganger with A&R, finished even faster than the Normal. And I'm like a shitty player.

The best way I can and always have described the characters is as if a middle schooler wrote them. Never once have had an issue with how they look, actually personally love Vergils design. However they are horrible characters. The entire succubus intro was literally a ton of f bombs over and over again. And that is boring when the past Dante would have been rather creative with his insults. Heck one of my favorite dmc scenes is from dmc4 with the whole hamlet esc scene before Dante fights the scientist.
Vergil look is alright but dante look is bad. Dialoque was horrible. It woulda been a better game if it was a new tittle not a reboot of the dmc

@Matthew W Jr. Hasch it's a game where you control a woman with some form of psychosis and/or schizophrenia, they actually had help by people with the conditions and specialized psychiatrists. It's a game similar to GoW18 (or what it would be) but the gimmick is to avoid death as much as possible because you have a lives limit before you cannot respawn, made to represent her falling to her voices.

A13X Gameplay and Animations are an evolution of the games. If this game had worse of those than the first one, they should pay us to get the game. That said, while DmC is a good game on its own, it's a terrible Devil May Cry. Dante isn't witty, or cool, just a brat with issues. Lots of issues. OG Dante at his worst was wittier and... well, cooler... than this Dante at his best. Even in DMC 3, he was still more stylish in every way, and while I love DMC3, I have to admit that, at that point of his story (the first one chronically speaking) he was still a brat, but a brat with wit and a certain punkish style. This one looks like a hobo with a wit as sharp as an anvil. At least in comparisson. Not only that, but joking, or outright insulting, what the followers of the series had loved since always (namely, the appearence and style of old Dante) is a big No No in this industry. It is like if Sega made Sonic Boom's Sonic ridicule the classic (or even the modern) one just to point how awesome is the new one compared to the old one. You are going to piss off your fanbase doing that. Also, this game has a few bad ideas from the technical side, too: - The whole floating enemies while in devil trigger is a BAD decision,. Devil Trigger is when you go super saiyan and can stomp everything, or take a breather if the boss/group of enemies is fucking you sideways, so making it harder for you to actually hit your enemies is stupid. - The color coded enemies are, as they say in the video, against what's Devil May Cry is about. It limits your potential to do stylish and long combos, and it also forces you to use weapons you may not like as much, so it limits the freedom of the player. - The boss fights weren't that good compared to the older games, too. Well, I can't talk about DMC2 because I haven't played it (and we don't talk about it, anyway), but the first game had awesome bosses and the fight against Mundus was just AWESOME. The third one had also really good fights, including *two* duels with Vergil, a fight against two greater devils at once, the Cerberus... And the fourth one had... well, every boss fight, really. Specially in the part of Dante, when you can feel how he is just playing, but even then they are still very engaging, and the last fight with the Saviour is like the Mundus fight of DmC, but done right.

Story wise, this game was absolutely terrible, and I despise a good amount of the characterization of established favorites like Dante and Vergil. But I will admit that I did enjoy the gameplay aspect of it. So long as I can ignore the story/characterization that I'm not fond of, I can enjoy it just fine. From a gameplay standpoint. I will also admit that while I do prefer Vergil's original voice actor better, the new one does a pretty good job with what he's got.

Im so glad I ran across this. I loved this entire video. The only thing I liked about DMC is the soundtrack: parts of it. And that's as far as I go.
Sparda and Mundus being “Blood Brothers” doesn’t always literally mean that they’re blood related. If it’s used as an idiom, it just means two males that are emotionally close to one another. So Mundus isn’t necessarily Dante and Virgil’s uncle.
Either way, it doesn't really effect the story and it was pretty pointless.

After that the first trailer reveal of Dante, fans were pissed as hell. NT (Ninja Theory) took that and used it against the original fans. The hair joke. The style. Making their Dante into a douchebag, because that was their idea of what "cool," was. Old Dante, now became the uncool "Broke Back Mountain," gay, Cowboy. NT pretty much gave original fans of the DMC games, the middle finger. Many fans threaten to not purchase the game, they said they didn't care. Game did poorly and then they turned towards the fans once again, blaming them. Hahaha, NT was a MESS, back then.

The reason people, such as myself, have an issue with the character re-design is because it was totally unnecessary. Dante's look is bad ass and doesn't need to be revamped. Another major issue that we have is that the story from DMC 4 isn't continued. Fans wanted to see a continuation, not a revamp. There had already been a game dealing with a younger and inexperienced Dante in DMC 3, so why they chose to go in this direction is beyond me. Then again, Coke once thought that they needed to revamp things and gave the world New Coke. Ugh. Now, if DMC 4 had sucked, then it would be hard to argue with a revamp. But since it was the best selling game of the series and generally well received by gamers and critics, there was absolutely NO REASON for a revamp. If you happen to like this game, that's fine. But I don't really think it's that hard to see why many fans of the series prior to this game being released don't like it...

As a fan of the series and a guy who has beaten all games difficulties, I don't really want a continuation of DMC 4. One of the best things about DMC series in my opinion is that every story is completely different and it starts and ends in the same game. There is no shit like in some series with "To be continued" which builds the hype over the sequel which might or might not appear. This revamp was not perfect, but I was not disappointed since I got what I expected from the first trailers of the game and I liked this game, especially Vergil's Downfall. I can see why there is hate about this game since it looks completely different from other DMC games, but I liked that, it was refreshing.

There's actually one thing I think this game nailed. The soundtrack (Chombichrist's songs to be specific, the studio OSTs sound like stock action music) The songs fit the edgy emo tone this game went for and having a dope soundtrack in the background made the combat feel more action-packed than it actually was so it helped in making some of the encounters less of a boring slug

People say that the only reason this game is hated on is because it has the name "Devil May Cry" when in reality that's the only reason people remember this mediocre game existence. Donte tried his hardest to be the cool asshole you just hate to love but ended up just being a cheap edgelord OC we all thought of when we turned 13. Doesn't help that much better hack and slash games existed who where all around better. Bayonetta beat it in gameplay and No More Heroes beat them in the making of protagonist you'd hate to love. Metal Gear Rising was also in the same boat of "Why would they change everything?!" but Metal Gear Rising got the love of the old Metal Gear Solid fans for not spitting on the previous entries, and was able to make a comeback to everyone this year.

The worst part of this game, in my opinion, is how the ending is basically 'Let's have Vergil and Dante fight because why not?' and everybody getting hit with the Stupid Stick. Phineas is honestly the best part of the game. and he only has like, three scenes.

This game isn't the worst thing ever. But, the incarnations of beloved DMC characters is terrible, and the Story is trash too. This is a game you play for the Gameplay, and nothing else. It's obvious that the developer of this game had no passion for the franchise as well, I'll put it simply. The creator for the Devil May Cry series found this game dissapointing, as well as the voice actor for Dante in this game. It was that mediocre. It's an average video game, but a terrible Devil May Cry game in it's own right.

I am a die hard DMC fan ever since the first one came out when I was in like 1st grade lol. I've grown up with and loved the Devil May Cry franchise and I was among the many who criticized the route they took with thus game when I first saw the teaser. But the game was an awesome reboot, the combat was fresh, fast paced, and the whole game had heart. The story was awesome and I loved the reimagining of the DMC universe. I loved everything about DmC and while I do believe that they really need to make a DMC 5 with how the 2nd one ended, people really need to stop putting hate on this game because critics are hard to please, and this game has gotten mainly positive reviews praising everything that the so called "real die hard DMC fans" criticized. This game is awesome and this is coming from someone who grew up with and loves the originals as much as this new take on the game
